Chitown2ATL_Falcon
08:04 AM ET 07.22 | In what might be an effort to shift the heavy weight of public opinion against players, owners ratified an agreement to end the lockout. What the owners agreed to in Atlanta was to ratify a proposal that they constructed. It wasn't the deal [Roger Goodell] and [DeMaurice Smith] had tentatively settled on. It was a dramatic modification of that deal, with the owners crossing out this, adding that and initialing the changes and then sliding it back on the table as if nothing at all had changed. And then to add insult to injury, they called a press conference and told the world that it's a done deal. This isn't a deal. This is only the owners once again flexing their negotiating muscles, even as they stood there smiling and complimenting Smith and all the players who sat across the negotiating table for the past three years.Post-DispatchRead more: http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/297930?eref=sircrc&eref=fromSI#ixzz1SrPGz9km

I don't care who is at fault here! I want some football. This junk is just annoying and both sides are getting me to the point of not caring. I never was a fan of owners or Goodell, but I am definitely starting to get a small opinion of the players as well.

It's to late in the game to play around so they just need to take the loss and start the season.

Peyton
I've heard that claim, I'd like to hear what it is they allegedly changed. I haven't heard anybody say anything specific.

I haven't heard anybody say anything specific.only things I see is that they want to players to recertify and that they are only giving the players 3 days to agree on changes with the Old CBA. if that is it, I would be angry, but not crying over the spilt milk. ditchdoc57
Mostly crap I think from the players, only think I have read and have heard is that they dint want to sign on anyones time-line. I wish the owners had the moxie to open camp and say get to work or flip burgers down the street. Also they have to reform the union to sign the CBA if not all things would have to be one on one with each player.

It was the owners trying to control the how and when of the union recertifying is what caused the outrage. You can't legally force a deadline on someone to form a union. Another point was the lack of an opt-out, with penalty at 7 years. The players also need to protect their right to decertify again if the owners pull another stunt like this farce. You know why I fee this way as a season ticket holder ? B/c its crap to pay full price for preseason games that no one wants to go to. I'd love $67 for each ticket. As far as I can tell, an agreement was reached between the players reps and the owners, and the owners went ahead and voted on it. I haven't heard anything concrete to suggest something different than that happened. When the owners were getting ready to vote yesterday, I didn't see Dee Smith on TV going, "Wait, what are they doing, we are still suppose to be negotiating?"Was he doing that? I don't think so. I heard he was telling his guys it was a good deal.
Peyton
Here is what I think is really happening. The players are suddenly worried that their negotiators got their butts kicked by the owners.

The owners are pretty much can do exactly that, but they are trying to extort the players into certifying pre-maturely to nullify the lawsuits instead of settling. They can open the doors whenever they want. It's their lockout, the players can and will show up to work anytime.

Atl/0
the players have a lockout fund. So they are not hurting as bad as the owners at this point.Oh I know about that. Just saying the average fan just saw what happened yesterday and don't know what's going on other than that the owners passed an agreement and it will only be the players fault if there is no season. The players got suckered at the final hour. Joremarid
What did he say? This was an obvious power play by owners, who want to pressure players into accepting their latest proposal and see how they respond to public pressure. On Thursday night, the NFL Players Association executive board and 32 player reps opted not to vote on the proposal. Players finally received a copy late Thursday of what the owners had passed, but their initial response wasn't favorable. They think they are being played. KANE337
Don't they have to become a union for the agreement to be valid? What is the issue? You are correct. The issue is "how" they reform. The NFL wants them to do it electronically so it's faster. The NFLPA wants to do it the normal way (which will take longer) so the NFL can't later say their decertifying a sham. Atl/0
So what were the owners supposed to do? They had reached an agreement with the players, they talked about it, and then they voted on it.I am unclear what the issue is here with what the owners did. This is how I see it:Both sides come to an agreement, owners decided to vote, owners add a few things that were not in the aggreement before the vote, owners pass an agreement, owners go to the public and say there will be a season this year and that all is left is for the players to agree by next tuesday or else.Good political ploy by the owners.
