Tribal Chief
Carolina has already said they will be very aggressive in free agency so don't think for one second they will let their best FA walk that easy. Sorry to kill a few dreams
Guest mashburn
That does not mean a thing. If someone told you, "hey I can pay you an extra 3 million an year, and you get to come to a potential super bowl team". Would you take it? If someone told you, "hey I can pay you an extra 3 million an year, and you get to come to a potential super bowl team". Would you take it?I know you and many others want him but the chances that they let him walk that easy are slim to none. Let them go after 2 big names and see the difference it makes. He already said last week that he wanted them to go after his boy Sidney Rice. They are gonna offer him top dollar to stay. All that money you guys want us to spend for him and Edwards can go towards other players that can contribute just as much.

There is no FA out there that we can get that will even get close to what Johnson can do and 100% no one as young as him. and I'm not a team Edwards. maxatlanta
There's a half dozen teams with so much cap space that they are going to be forced to spend BIG in FA. This is because their payroll must be at least 90%(or something like that) of the salary cap. These 5/6 teams are going to want top tier talent and star power for the money that they are being forced to spend. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that they will outbid the rest of the league for the small group of top tier FA. I predict that Aso, Edwards, & Charles Johnson all wind up signing within that group of 5/6 teams. Unfortunately CAR & TB are among them (with BUF, JAX, and a couple others). We are not in that group and I think people shouldn't be getting their hopes up about any of those guys coming here. We can not out bid those other teams. More importantly, there will be nothing stopping CAR/TB from offering more than we can to our own UFAs! Don't be disappointed when we fail to land CJ, just be grateful if we manage to keep most of our own.

Without the consistancy from those 2 Johnson most likely will not put up the same numbers as last season. How would you feel if we topped Carolina or Philly and we get no results. You cant say you wont be pissed cause you know you will.

Besides, it isn't like Johnson had world beaters on the DL in CAR. Johnson would be an ideal signing for us.

You never know 100% how a player will turn out, but all you can go on is his history. Johnson is clearly the best DE out there in FA based on that. Then what will that do for Johnson who averaged 10+ sacks and now gets to play with Jerry and Peters?Carolina had a horrible DT line. Johnson was there star, and since Johnson was then it allowed there other DE to open up.
MattM12
speculation really...He is a georgia kid. That puts us in a good place. We are in win now mode. I never said he was a good or bad player. I have always said we wont over spend for him or Edwards. We are not that desperate to add big money depth to that position. The fan base is the only group in the organization that is extra desperate to spend big for one of those guys

FalconFanSince1970
Why should we even be discussing Charles Johnson? I mean come on man. TD the great drafted Beer Man, Sidbury and Matthews. Plus he slapped a fat contract on Chauncey and kept Busterson around for four years. We should be set at LDE right?

Guest mashburn
Philly cant afford him if they're going after Asomugha, especially with Vick contracts coming up next year.thank you. a lot of people forget that there is people who have to be signed next year. and when you know you'll have to sign someone major; whom you have been underpaying, means you have to consider that. yes we have to spend at least 108 million, but a player this year is making 0.5 million is going to have to be paid 8 million next year. so in a way, yes philly can sign both aso and johnson. but philly will not be able to sign vick.___________________________________________________________________The falcons under paid player is Grimes. so last year we had 102 million and this year we would raise it to due to grime possibly getting paid 8 million. so now we are at 110 million, but there is no one we would have to worry up paying more next year. but we will have to worry in 5 years when we have to sign Julio and possibly Rodgers. plus the falcons could cut a few players to make more cap room, jenkins 3.5 million, Davis 3 million, anderson 3.5 million, norwood who knows. so if we needed 20 million a year to put on a player we really could do so. but I do not think we will. more then likely our top offer to FA player is going to be 12 million. With Lofton and other key players contracts expiring soon we have to save money for our own. Spending big on one player this year will likely cause us to lose one important player. I wish Gonzo would have retired and freed up some money lol.
rcky_mtn_falcon
I've read most of your reasoning and have yet to find a legitimate reason as to why Charles Johnson would be imposssible to sign. For all we know Johnson could be very much like Robinson last year. As soon as Dunta's agent told him we were interested he didn't care what other teams wanted him to visit. He told his agent to get it done with the Falcons. If moeny is close or equal the ability to return home has a way of trumping all other alternatives.Let's look at legitimate reasons as to why Johnson might want to play for the Falcons instead of the Panthers.Johnson has said he wants to WIN, WIN, WIN .... right now Caolina is in the cellar of the NFC South. I don't see them getting past Atlanta, N.O. or Tampa anytime soon.Atlanta is building toward a Super Bowl. Carolina is trying to build it's way back to respectability.Johnson is from Hawkinsville, GA. From Atlanta that is about a 2 hour drive. From Carolina it's going to take you at least 5 hours unless you have a private pilots license.Once again when weighing pros & cons. Home trumps a lot of other pros.So far as the money, and fitting him under the cap. Instead of saying we can't afford him. Why don't we leave it to the professionals. If the Falcons FO wants to sign Charles Johnson I think it will be a LOT easier to accomplish than you do.I don't know if the Falcons have any interest at all in Johnson. I'm just saying if they do want him they have a legitmate shot to sign him, so all these ridiculous posts about "scratching Johnson off your list" are just that ridiculous. When the Falcons say "we have absolutely no interest in Charles Johnson, or when Johnson says "**** the Falcons, I'm signing somewhere else" that's when we can "scratch him off the list".
