ConnFalcon
Got the idea from Hokies&Falcons- Getting everyone's top picks for each genre. There hasn't been much traffic in this forum lately, so wanted to start up some conversation. Lets start with RPG's.Final Fantasy VIII- My first, and favorite RPG of all time. Loved the characters and the story. Also one of the hardest games I ever played. The game kept me interested throughout, and the card game was epic. Zelda- Ocarina of Time- Spent many hours on this game, many of which in the frustrating water temple.Zelda- Link to the Past- Doesn't need an explanation, awesome game all around.Fallout 3- After the first 2 hours, one of my favorite games of all time. Took a while to really get going, but is an awesome game.Final Fantasy VII- Another game that needs no explantion. One of the most regarded RPG's ever. Adema1226
How are Earthbound and Chrono Trigger not on your list? Earthbound is by far my favorite RPG ever... hands down.

Ak Falcon
Jade EmpireMass effectKingdom HeartsDemons SoulsDiablo.KotorSo I'm curious to know why OoT is so highly regarded in history. While I thought it was cool at first I became bored of quite a few things in it that gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Firstly, I hate how much you have to run back and forth to places you've already done. I know it's pretty commonplace in rpg's, but Zelda seems too much. Also the boss battles. They seem to go more for goofily created creatures instead of something I would consider epic.
B^rooklyn
1- Final Fantasy VII Revolutionized RPGs.2- Final Fantasy XThe Last Real Good FF Game IMHO.3- Final Fantasy VIIIArguably The Hardest FF Game. Also, Card Mini Game Was Very Fun.4- Kingdom HeartsSomething New, The Mix Of Two Worlds Made Things Interesting. Also Fighting Sephiroth In This Game Is Crazy, One Of The Hardest Video Game Bosses Of All Time.5- Kingdom Hearts III Don't Know Why But I Liked The First KH Better, And Many Others Do Agree. Sephiroth Was A B*tch In This One Also.

B^rooklyn
FF 8 was hard? I just found the "draw" system more of an annoyance.Yeap it Really Was.. If You Wanna Play It Perfect. My Last File I Accomplished Things I NEVER Did Before In This Game.Start The Game Without Allowing Any Character To Level Up Until Disc 3 When You Get The Ragnarok (Flying Ship). So I Played Through Most Of The Game With A Level 7 Squall, Level 8 Zell, ETC.Why Do This? The GF 'Cactuar' Has Abilites Called STR+1 SPD+1 SPR+1 And So On (I Think Those Where The Names). So When You Get These Abilities Junction The Favored Ones On 1 Character. During Battle Kill Off The Other 2 (So They Receive No Experience Points) And Only Level Up With The Selected Character. Every Time That Character Lvls Up He/She Will Receive A +1 For The +1 Abilities Junctioned. Plus What They Automatically Get For Leveling Up. After The Character Gets To Lvl 99, Move On To Someone Else And Repeat Until Everyone Is At Lvl 99.I Knew The Best Area To Fight For Fast Experience Points, And The Best Area To Train Your GFs.On My Last File, I Was Trying To Get All The Cards But, I Stopped Playing The Game A While Back And I'm Yet To Accomplish That. I Also Never Found All The Boss Fights You Gotta Go Through To Get All Your Abilities Back At The End Of The Game In Order To Easily Kill Ultimecia. And I Never Got Into The Chocobo Thing.Soo.. That's Why I Think VIII Is The Hardest FF Game.

Carter
I miss good RPGs... haven't played a good new one in a while. What I consider RPGs are what is now called JRPG... cuz that's the type of game that coined the "RPG" genre. I love games like Mass Effect and Fallout 3/NV and the Elder Scrolls games but I just don't see them as an "RPG" since I grew up with turn based battles and predetermined storylines and these games are basically complicated FPS or 3rd person shooters.1. Chrono Trigger2. Final Fantasy IV3. Final Fantasy VI4. Xenogears5. Breath of Fire IVLegend of Zelda: A Link to the Past gets a huge honorable mention. Awesome game. Alundra as well. Very surprised when I saw Alundra show up on the PSone Classics.... always thought of it as a hugely underrated game.Earthbound is a classic but I never got into it much. Just didn't really appeal to me for whatever reason.

Hokies&Falcons
Final Fantasy VIISuikoden IIStar Wars: Knights of the Old RepublicLegend of DragoonFinal Fantasy X Honorable mention: Jade Empire, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VI, Persona 3, Persona 4, Suikoden, Suikoden III, Dragon Quest VIII, Suikoden Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle and Ogre TacticsI highly recommend all of the above referenced games. The best RPG's of this generation of console, are Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey IMO.Mass Effect Games, Elder Scrolls, Zelda Games, and Fallout 3 etc are not true RPG's in my opinion. They have RPG elements for sure, but I just prefer the traditional turn based style of RPG's...
