Del-Falcon21
Norwood Says He’s Healthy and Ready for 2011June 28th, 2011 Matt Loede Posted in 2011 Free Agency, NewsFree agent running back Jerious Norwood says he’s completely recovered from the torn ACL that ended his 2010 season, Ross Dellenger of The Clarion-Ledger reports.“I’ll be ready to roll this football season,” Norwood said on Friday. “(Rehab) is pretty much over with.”Norwood tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2010 season, which the former third-round pick out of Mississippi State played under a “Second Round” tender. A new collective bargaining agreement is expected to make Norwood an unrestricted free agent, and Norwood’s agent, Don Weatherall, says teams have inquired about Norwood’s health.“They’re asking how healthy he is,” Weatherall said, adding that “it’s just too early” to tell where Norwood will be next season. In 57 games with the Atlanta Falcons over the past five seasons, the versatile Norwood has 1,995 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, with 96 receptions for 912 yards and three touchdowns out of the backfield. Norwood also averaged 25.5 yards on 103 kick returns between 2007-08, but has not been used in that role the past two seasons. The Falcons may be more inclined to re-sign Jason Snelling, who has 937 yards and six touchdowns rushing the past two seasons working as the No. 2 behind Michael Turner. Atlanta also used a fifth-round pick on Oregon State’s Jacquizz Rodgers, who possesses many of the same attributes as Norwood, albeit in a smaller package. The aquisition of Quizz makes Norwood expendable and puts more value on Snelling(MT similar, durable, catches). I want Norwood back but not another heartache(injury).Norwood vs Snelling = SnellingNorwood vs MJ12/HD/Finn? = Norwood(more explosive in MM's "O") we need whatever speed Norwood has left. TdotFalcon
i dont see us resigning (drafted quizz) or getting much value for norwood, which is a shame because most of us like him and when he is healthy he can be an explosive playersome team will be willing to sign him and take a risk with him. hopefully it doesnt come back to bite us in the arse
Supes™
If he is truly healthy as a horse, this could make for some tough decision making in Flowery Branch.

Falcon Fantom
This is a tough situation. Norwood is a beast and a fan favorite, but he has been out due to injury for the last couple of seasons. We really need that change of pace back and Norwood durability issues might come back to haunt us again. It took HD and Robinson 2 years to fully recover from ACL surgery. Can we afford for Norwood to come play again not at 100%. I think the Falcons let him walk.
Supes™
I don't know. I never really bought into the premise that any particular players are "injury prone". It's a violent, physical game and ANYBODY can get hurt and hurt seriously. A torn ACL is common enough at all positions.I think, in all my wisdom (), that a lot of the time a player is just in the wrong place at the wrong time (i.e. Joe Theisman), and get hurt. Other times they just take regular beatings (witness Chris Chandler) that just plain hurt and they have to miss a lot of plays, if not games and sometimes seasons.Rare is the player like the great Jim Brown, who never missed a play because he was hurt.Norwood could bounce back for 3 or 4 great seasons, who knows?I like Snelling a whole bunch too. I'm glad it won't be my decision to make.

Until we have a new CBA teams aren't suppose to be talking to players or their agents. Who are these teams inquiring about his health ?I'd like to get the draft pick compensation for those teams tampering.

I'm glad it won't be my decision to make.Good points. What's not to like about Norwood? Nice, good old Mississippi country boy that loves hunting and fishing and represents himself, his teammates and the city of Atlanta in a positive way. Plus, he's a blast to watch when healthy. In a nutshell, like the great, great majority of us, I don't think Jerious Norwood was blessed with the body to handle to be a featured back in the NFL and thus his job will always be in peril every year if a team happens to find someone similar in style but more durable in stature. It could be that Rogers will fill this role but, I agree, we will not know for sure until we read or hear about his ability in training camp/exhibition against NFL caliber defenses. From my perspective, Norwood has frequently avoided collisions, gets arm tackled a lot, and goes down too too easily and too often at first contact. Indeed he runs more like a WR receiver on a reverse than a running back. So, now that he's nursing and protecting his knee just how will he perform? We'll soon know for sure!I trust we'll end up with the best crop of RB's to compliment Turner's power game, and if one of these happens to be Norwood, I am fine with this! From a purely emotional perspective I will be pulling for him!
egoprime II
I am a Norwood fan but...Atlanta went 13-3 without him. True we do need a change of pace guy, and we now have that in Rogers.Norwoods' game is his speed. Regardless of how he feels or what he thinks, knee and hip injuries do not make a back faster or improve his burst or quickness. But lets just say for a moment, Norwood is perfectly healthy. What kind of offer can the Falcons make? Long term deal with good bonus for a fifth year RB who gets injured a lot? I do not see it.Plus Turner, Snelling and Norwood are all getting up there in age for RBs, so some youth is needed at that position.

Peyton
Norwood's made out of porcelain. The guy has constantly been banged up every season despite the fact the guy has rarely been asked to carry the ball more than 7 or 8 times in a game. It's too bad too, because on his good days, he is as electtrifying a player to watch as you will ever see. stumpjumper
Norwood would stay happy, until someone steps in his general vicinity, causing him to get injured again.
The O.D.B
No need to cut Norwood. we can make room for Quiz by bumping Antone or Gartrel. I say we keep turner,Snell,Quiz,Norwood,Gartrel.I'm through with seeing him injured all the time as well. right now however, his stock is very low. If by chance he has a great season that is injury free we can probably get a 2nd rounder for him next season. plus, I just want to give him one more year. Statick
Of course, Norwood saying he's healthy and ready for 2011. If he wants to keep himself marketeable and play more years in the NFL he had better say that. However, most of us know that as soon as he hits the field or trips or mysteriously falls down behind the LOS with another injury, one that puts him down for the majority of the year or before a big game, his *** is over. So, you are right, there is no need to cut him, and certainly no possibility of trading him for anything.
vel
It is up to Norwood if we resign him to be honest. He knows we got Quizz because he is prone to injury. If he wants to try his luck elsewhere then power to him . But I bet if he is willing to come back for a minimum salary, TD will consider it very hard. Norwood knows the offense, could help Quizz, and is explosive. Like one poster said, why get rid of an explosive player when we were last in explosive plays? Yea he gets hurt a lot but a very cheap contract is worth it.

You do realize that he isnt a young gun anymore right? Not to mention we traded a second rounder for TG. You actually think norwood will draw the same interest as a healthy (HOF) Gonzo who isnt coming off of a serious injury? im sorry but this is as unrealistic as it gets. Atlfanstckndenver
also antoine and gartrell werent even activated for the majority of the season. So those spots aren't even necessarily available spots as far as actual snap receiving game playing roster slots.
