GENERALZOD
What plays on offense, and or that is what type of plays would you be calling here in the 2011 season if it happens and the Falcons have their current lineup in there to start?By current lineup, I know there might be a few players go on the O-line and a few other things, until this CBA has happened and FA has a chance to be worked out and happen I know it's hard to say how you would approach things if you were an offensive coach. That being said : If you were an offensive coach and you had the players currently in the lineup what would be some of the plays you would avoid? And what would be some of the plays you would try and execute with this current lineup?Keep in mind, you have 4 downs, so it wouldn't have to be a hail mary on every chance, only an idiot would do that.Thought's on play calling with this new WR lineup and the big changes happening on offense for the Falcons? GENERALZOD
One of the plays I would love to see the Falcons try would be a Screen play, they just haven't done enough of them. Especially with the addition of J. Rodgers, at least try them more I should say.

Jimsmusic™
it's ok, they can neg this one toooh man especially against Pitt's D come on man, you can run it up the middle but spread your recievers/TE's out some so it spreads the LB/CB's out. raysnill1
it ain't even that I don't like Mularkey but this is what makes me mad:I've been watching every game from last season and I see this gem. sure there's a lot of guys in the box but this time look what happens:fakes the handoff to Turner then hits him on a pass in the flats. 8 yard gain!!! NEVER ran that play again!! Turner made a sweet catch! why wouldn't he go back to play again?? THAT's my beef with Mularkey!!
pzummo
I have defended Mularkey a lot, and I do think he's better than a lot of fans give him credit for. But I have to admit, those screenshots are funny.
pzummo
By the way, regarding playcalling, I would start with a 3 WR set. We would be facing a Nickel D. Roddy will continue to demand help from the FS. I would actually put Julio in the slot with Jenkins out wide. Julio would be matched up against the Nickel CB. Tony G would be up against either a SS or a LBer. And Turner would be in the backfield. The reason I put JJ in the slot is that Julio is a very physical and very fast WR. I put him there because we have several advantages with matchups. No team has a NB that can match his strength or speed. It eases his progression to the speed of the NFL by giving him easier matchups. This formation is also a passing formation, and Turner would have less LBers players in the box he has to run through. It also makes our OL's job easier. If the defense blitzes, Ryan can hit Roddy, TG, or JJ because the D has less in coverage and at least 2 will be in single coverage. Jenkins is taking the team's 2nd best CB out of the play and can lay a block downfield for our quick, short, high percentage throws to our other guys that will turn it up field. We ram Turner into 6-7 man fronts instead of 8-9 man fronts. One play I would love to see us run is having 4 wide. TG and HD cross to the middle while Roddy runs a skinny post, Jenkins runs a a comeback towards the sideline, and JJ runs a stop n go from the slot. TG and HD would pull the CB and SS/LBer when crossing the middle. Roddy will pull the FS on the skinny. The #2 CB will be on the sideline with Jenkins. And JJ will smoke the NB deep over the middle after he jumps the route. TOUCHDOWN!

Jaquizz is in for 3rd down for screens and slot type plays. It's also time to have more slot packages with 3 receivers and Gonzalez at tight end in a singleback formation. We need to confuse defenses and become more unpredictable. If we catch the defense thinking we'll run, Ryan can read it, and throw passes to any of his weapons. We have the talent to be an unstoppable offense. But if we continue to be a safe than sorry run first offense, nothing will change.
Radical
I believe most of those plays went for 3 or 4 yards. What's the problem?
raysnill1
I believe most of those plays went for 3 or 4 yards. What's the problem?actually, what I was gonna do was post up pics where we ran Turner into 8-9 man boxes in power run formations in the 1st quarter then show stills from the 4th quarter in the same formations but it's takes a grip of time capturing snapshots & then uploading them to tinypic. then people don't appreciate it anyway so blah

That is the most frustrating thing about MM, you see something out of the ordinary that works and never see it again. He does not evolve his scheme over the course of the season. If you are old enough like me to remember the Atari 2600 then MM is the reset switch on it. Finds a wrinkle but "resets" and returns to the predictable. ol'_dirty2
We need to run the RB and WR screens please. And what ever happened to combination pass routes in which the receivers actually cross each other in an attempt to confuse or rub defenders? Is it illegal in our fine city? That's been my biggest gripe about the MM offense. I don't see a variety of crossing patterns or at least WR's crossing on the same side of the field. Other than that, I like our mentality (maybe not the execution).
