Upcoming Free Agents

So obviously we are close to the lockout being over as July approaches (normal Training Camp time) closer and closer. I was wondering if somebody could draft up a list of potential Free Agents that would make sense for the Falcons to target. I am at work so I don't have as much time as I used to to peruse these boards but I would really appreciated. Also, could you include our upcoming FAs.

Obviously I know we aren't going after a QB, FB, WR, Safety, but I think resigning the OL is priority as well as adding more impact players. I know we don't know the parameters around which FAs are going to be but let's assume a 4 year minimum, like it was before.

I guess this would be similar to the list that polarbearjones makes during the draft time for whom we talk with.

I'd like to see us go after Zack Miller or An Owen Daniels.

Yea I just browsed around for a second on the internet and have a few names in mind:

Zach Miller, Eric Wright, CJ, Ray Edwards, and Mark Herzlich. I think we could use Zach Miller, Tony G, and Kerry Meier like the Pats used Hernandez, Gronkowski, and Crump, albeit Tony G being better a significantly better vet than Crump. I included Eric Wright because he is very talented but seemed to struggle lately in that Browns secondary. He could come here and push for the nickel spot for a moderate price and would be insurance for injury (wouldn't want DRob or Grimes to go down with Franks and Owens as our only options). Obviously Charles Johnson and Ray Edwards would be ideal to be the big ticket item this off-season (paired with Miller of course, if we get him). We need a LE. Period. Both are young which is a plus. Would give us a rotation of Abe,CJ/RE and Biermann/Sid which should be ideal for the Montana/Richmond fellas. I threw Herzlich in as a wild card in case Nicholas leaves. Yes we picked up Dent but I would love to have Lofton, Pete, and Spoon backed up by Dent, Adkins, and Herzlich.

Obviously we aren't bound to get 4 FA's with the number we have to bring back plus next year's FA's. But Miller and a DE would be great.

I think the Falcons biggest targets in FA will be their own.

But I suspect they will look at a DE and a corner, but not Aso. Somebody to play the nickel.

Peyton for the win....The Falcons are not going to tie up that much money in one position. We are paying a crapload of money to Dunta. It wouldn't make sense to wreck our cap by mortgaging a substantial part of our future (and flexibility) for one position.

We just need a viable replacement for Brian Williams.

Good post Peyton.

Can't really see the falcons not picking up a DE unless they really believe in tne ones they have now. Would like to see an upgrade at LB too short and medium pass killed more than the deep ball last year

I can see them not picking up a DE if there isn't one worth the $$$. Either get Tier 1 for big $$$, or Tier 3 or 4 for less $$$.

yup if the top DE's are to expensive... I can see TD going out and grabbing a short term answer Andre Carter... He isa LDE that shouldnt cost alot and still have something in his tank.... As a 4-3 LDE the guy had 11 sacks in his last season... Dude just want to be on a contender.

Also since he was released.. He wouldnt count against our compensatory count

That wouldn't be a bad way to train Sid, Kroy, and Cliff too. I have an unconventional mindset though and you know I want Gholston...just not happening. I hope the man gets a shot anywhere but in the NFC South. I think he may come out of his shell in a 4-3. I think he hit a block.

yea i think Gholston has potential in a 4-3 scheme.... I just think Gholston just need to start off as a rotational guy why he develop some... He came in the league as a 3-4 LB then a 3-4 DE... I think he should go to a team like the colts... They have 2 established starters... They can just work him into the rotation.

I think the guy has potential also... I hope the guy getting drafted in the wrong scheme didnt mess his career up.

That's what I'm saying. Even on the Ravens he's be better off with Ray there. Ray has a way to bring guys up to be able to play on a squad with him. They are in fact 3-4 (actually 4-6 at times) but he would have time to up his game.

I hope he pulls it together too.

Who I'd really like is Babin playing like last year. He's gained around 30lbs of tattoos and seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Edwards is a strange one. He has 2 Tier skills and the word is that he'll cost us. Would be nice to pry Charles Johnson off the Panthers. He was my pick in '07.

For me I'd like to get McClain or Derrick Locke at RB, Ricardo Lockette at WR, Zach Miller at TE, Anthony Gray at DT, Manny Lawson at OLB, Joe Lefeged and Eric Weddle at FS. Aso, but that would hurt us. And I take Charles Johnson, Jason Babin, or Gholston at DE (in that order).

Sounds expensive, but the returns would be high and many of those guys could be PS. Edwards in rotation wouldn't be that bad. I'd say 4-6 sacks in heavy rotation.
