RHEC
A lot of people will be boycotting Battlefield 3 because of this. I think it's stupid people will boycott this game because of this, it's not like they will be getting guns that none of us will have, they will simply use a gun before any of us can unlock yet imo. Those people may have some kind of advantage but nothing a tank couldn't fix.Source: KotakuUntil this point, Battlefield 3 has been running an almost flawless marketing campaign. Great trailer after great trailer had people eating out of the palm of its hand, so much so you voted it your game of E3 2011.Even the fastest hype train can be derailed by a single hiccup, though, and Battlefield 3 just hit its first hiccup.Over the weekend, the "Physical Warfare" pack was revealed by publishers EA (so far it's only been shown off for the UK market), in which customers pre-ordering the game receive weapons, equipment and ammo that places them at an advantage over customers who don't put down money early.Sounds harmless, but this being an online, multiplayer shooter with a passionately loyal (and long-standing fanbase), people are understandably upset. This Reddit thread seems to be the tallest lightning rod up at the moment, though in general the internet in its entirety seems unhappy at this.As they should be! EA and DICE tried this once a few years back and were forced to fall on their swords, so it's interesting seeing them try almost the exact same thing three years later. Perhaps in the hope that everyone would simply...forget how ****ty a deal it was. Edited June 16, 2011 by Skar
duncja
People are stupid. If the weapon pack is that important, run down to Gamestop and put $5 on it for pre-order. Then you're good to go.
Joremarid
additional content that is available on release date in general is stupid. if i pay 60 for the game i should get all that comes with it. i get having to pay for dlc down the road, but not on release date. Carter
Don't even care, to be completely honest. Pre-order in-game item incentives are always completely worthless. And aside from that, they aren't going to cripple the game by making players who pre-ordered inherently more dominant via exclusive items. They release these games just shortly before Christmas for a good reason.

Jimsmusic™
think it's dumb to give anything special out, if you're gonna give anything out give it out to all the people paying the 60 bucks for your game.
Guest Hella Screens
They did this with Bad Company so I don't know why it surprises anyone. In fact, it was worse with BC because they gave unlock privileges to those who bought the Deluxe edition which was more expensive. So in that case, you could make the argument that it was unfair that players who spent more money had a competitive advantage. This time it's for pre-orders. I don't see how this is a big deal, people need to get over themselves. If they care so much about it then pre-order the **** game, it's not like you're paying anything extra, you're just throwing down $5 of those $60 a couple months earlier. nuccah
Not a big deal. Every competitive BF-series players will pre-order this game anyway. Basically, the people complaining are just a bunch of noobs.

I myself don't really care, but I think it's stupid to give people an advantage because they pre-order.On a side note, I have never pre-ordered any game and never had an issue getting it the first day. I know i would. They are about to release a DLC for Mortal Kombat that adds 4 characters. I'm sure it will be $10 at minimum for fighters that should have been unlockable secret characters in the game but people will waste that extra $10 and the developers know that. It's a win-win for both sides. The customer gets what they want and the company gets what they want. Only way i will buy it is if they add to the story mode with these characters. Will 10,000 boycotters not paying $60 outweigh those that pay for a $10 add on?This a different case than a developer that worked on content long after the game's release and didn't jipp anyone out of it at release

I personally feel that all DLC is a ripoff but i still buy what i want to play. As far as this specific topic, all they gotta do is pre order it and stop crying. It aint even over here yet so no big deal

I think $60 is enough for a game. The only DLC I have bought recently was the Undead Nightmare for RDR, which was very worth the 10 bucks I spent. But I am not going to pay 10 bucks just so I can play as another character in MK. So stupid.
