Falconsfan567
Brian McCann, Jonny Venters, Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson all should be locks for the ASG. If not it's robbery!

atlbravesfalcs7
I'm going to go on a limb here...Uggla should be in the all star game. Edited June 13, 2011 by atlbravesfalcs7
ATL Fan in the DMV
I've got a terrible feeling one of them will be omitted and I think it'll be one of the pitchers.Yeah. Of that bunch, I don't think Hanson will make it.
ATLBrave
Yeah. Of that bunch, I don't think Hanson will make it.He definitely should. Just a few NL rankings for Hanson this season: 3rd in ERA (7th MLB), 5th in K's (10th MLB), tied for 2nd in wins (same), 5th in WHIP (11th MLB), 1st in BAA (3rd MLB), 3rd in OPS against (8th MLB), only given up 89 total bases, good for first among all qualified SP (3rd MLB). Stepdaddy
Do you guys not think prado will be an all star? I think he's a shoe in
R.C. Collins
Do you guys not think prado will be an all star? I think he's a shoe inHe won't make it as a left fielder this year. He would need strong power numbers to compete with some of the other left fielders and his BA is not what it was last season when he really destroyed at the plate and competed for the batting title for a good portion or the season.Anyone know where he is at in the voting though? K26dp
Do you guys not think prado will be an all star? I think he's a shoe inThe was borderline before he got hurt. Being out for 2+ weeks will end his All-Star chances.Someone to watch is Chipper Jones. If he gets hot I could see him getting a nod, especially with the derth of good third basemen in the NL. Unknøwn
Jurrjens is a strong candidate to start the game if the game was today I think he would have to start

I think Hanson needs 1 more win or at least a quality start his next outing to get that "lock" status. Yes he should be there but if one of them is not selected then Hansen's the likely one off the list like somebody said. But overall I agree. Those four should be there.J
K26dp
If you believe in WAR, here's the current list of most valuable pitchers for their teams this season so far:Rk Tm IP WAR 61 Roy Halladay PHI 105.1 4.22 Cole Hamels PHI 90.2 3.33 Jair Jurrjens ATL 79 2.84 Kyle Lohse STL 91 2.65 Jonny Venters ATL 40.2 2.66 Jhoulys Chacin COL 87 2.57 Ian Kennedy ARI 94.2 2.58 Ryan Vogelsong SFG 59.2 2.59 Josh Johnson FLA 60.1 2.410 Cliff Lee PHI 95 2.411 Shaun Marcum MIL 90.2 2.412 Clayton Kershaw LAD 91.2 2.313 Tommy Hanson ATL 83.1 214 Anibal Sanchez FLA 85.1 215 Tim Stauffer SDP 85 1.
slamee101
I feel confident BMac and Jair get in but as deserving as they might be I don't know that Hanson or Venters get the nod. Both deserve to go but I think Hanson will get shafted by some more familiar names.
Unknøwn
If Venters continues on this pace it would be an epic failure by Bochy if hes not on the team
K26dp
Just for kicks, here's the same WAR list for position players. I was surprised to see Alex Gonzalez so high, buty WAR takes defense into consideration, and baseball-reference.com calculates Gonzalez as the most valuable defender in the NL right now.1 Matt Kemp LAD 4 OF2 Andrew McCutche PIT 3.5 OF3 Ryan Braun MIL 3.2 OF4 Joey Votto CIN 3 1B5 Prince Fielder MIL 2.8 1B6 Troy Tulowitzki COL 2.7 SS7 Gaby Sanchez FLA 2.7 1B8 Jose Reyes NYM 2.7 SS9 Lance Berkman STL 2.6 OF/1B10 Drew Stubbs CIN 2.4 OF11 Carlos Beltran NYM 2.4 OF12 Hunter Pence HOU 2.2 OF13 Mike Stanton FLA 2.1 OF14 Michael Bourn HOU 2.1 OF15 Rickie Weeks MIL 2.1 2B16 Kosuke Fukudome CHC 2 OF17 Albert Pujols STL 2 1B/3B18 Matt Holliday STL 1.9 OF19 Alex Gonzalez ATL 1.8 SS20 Ryan Roberts ARI 1.8 IF/OF21 Allen Craig STL 1.7 OF/1F22 Todd Helton COL 1.7 1B23 Pablo Sandoval SFG 1.6 3B24 Ramon Hernandez CIN 1.6 C25 Shane Victorino PHI 1.6 OF26 Miguel Montero ARI 1.6 C27 Stephen Drew ARI 1.6 SS28 Jamey Carroll LAD 1.6 SS/2B29 Brian McCann ATL 1.5 C30 Gerardo Parra ARI 1.4 OF

K26dp
JJ got the best ERA, id say he's the most valuable.Lots of things go into WAR beyond ERA. For example, if JJ and Joe Pitcher had the same ERA, but Joe Pitcher had 20 more Innings Pitched, he's have the higher WAR. Ballpark factors also play a roll in it. A 2.00 ERA in Philadelphia is "worth" more than a 2.00 ERA in Atlanta, because Philly's ballpark plays to better offense.
