Live from the Hodges QB/WR camp

Recommended Posts

Well, not live but pretty dang close to it. Guys and gals, I'm gonna do my best to keep y'all updated on how things are going down here. I'll be busy watching my own players, but I do get some time to check out all the kids at this camp. For those of you who don't know, the Hodges camp is located in Cochran, Georgia and is one of the top teaching camps in the southeast IMO. There are about 500 of the best QB and WR's in the state of Georgia here as well as several from out of state. This camp gives these kids a million reps and they are coached by some of the best of the best high school coaches in the state as well as some top current and former college coaches. Zack Mettenberger took top QB honors here a few years ago. Last year Leonard Floyd outdueled Jay Rome to take home top TE honors. Day 1 is in the books and there are several extremely talented athletes turning heads already. Ricky Parks is here and he is an absolute physical specimen. I haven't seen J. Williams yet but I'm sure he's here since there a large crew here from Sandy Creek. Saw a young man that looks like a Julio Jones clone. I'll work on getting some info on him. Like I said there are over 500 athletes here so it's tough to keep tabs on them all, but I'll do my best. If you have nothing going on for the next few days, ride on down to Cochran. The camp ends on Wednesday with awards competitions.

Don't know if this had already been posted but pretty interesting

Mike Hodges and I were high school teammates and neighbors. If you go, say hello for me.

Parks is looking good so far today. He has a great arm, but has to work on his feet. All things considered, he looks much better as a QB than I expected. The best QB at the camp is already starting to become clear. Fitzgerald QB Kaleb Nobles is stealing the show. He's got excellent footwork and an accurate arm that is among the strongest here. If you haven't had the chance to see Fitzgerald play you have been missing out. His size is the only thing keeping him from being an elite college prospect. Size is huge for the success of a college QB but at the high school level, there is no better QB in the state of Georgia than Kaleb Nobles IMO.

If we've identified Ramsey as our top QB target for 2013, we could possibly have a top 2014 candidate here at the camp. Ben Cheek is a rising sophomore at Franklin County High School in Carnesville. I've looked around for some film but haven't had much luck. He's about 6' or 6'1" right now with plenty of time to grow even taller. His footwork is very nice and his arm is solid. He has been right on the money with everything so far and just has a very pretty ball in general. Definately a young prospect to keep our eyes on.

I haven't seen anyone here from Lassiter. One of the best looking receivers here physically is a rising senior out of Central Carroll but I haven't gotten a name for him yet. There is a kid here from Metter that looks like Julio Jones but he looks very young and will need to grow into his body more and take his game up a notch before his senior year rolls around. To me the most impressive receiver so far has been Tyran Watkins out of Valdosta. He's about 6'2" or 6'3" and is runnig good crisp routes and catching everything in sight. He is a 2012 guy. The Franklin QB I spoke of earlier, Cheek, was wearing a Clemson shirt in the last practice session. Good thing we've got 3 years to work on him.
