Snelling wants more time

Recommended Posts

This certainly deserves a bump and replies. Snelling has tremendous potential. He has proven that he can run with power, has heart and great hands. He's a super kid and I hope we keep him and continue to develop him into our only chance at having reliable screen plays, for gawds sake!

Quizz is GREAT at screens.

I want Snelling back but it looks like he is gone... By the interview... It sound like Snelling want a chance to be "the guy" or receive a lot of carries... Here... Turner will be the guy for atleast 2 more years...

If it was up to me I would keep Snelling and let Turner go

He would be a Cheaper option. If we could get a good trade to improve our defense with letting turner go, I might do it. I think Snelling/Quiz would be pretty awesome. NFL is moving towards more of a 50/50 system anyways.

Turner has turned into another TJ Duckett. Snelling runs just as well as Turner, with even more burst, plus he can catch the ball. He's more versatile, and useful in our offense. I dont know if we over-used Turner his first year, or he just got too fat and slow, but he isnt the same runner anymore that used to explode thru the gap.

Well if you watched and listened to the posted vid, Jedi, you would hear how teams are using a combination of RB's these days so that no particular guy has to carry the entire load like Turner did in '08. Some might argue that he's never been the same since.

Turner ain't done, I don't think, and if used smartly in conjunction with young Jason Snelling, the Falcons could have as deadly a ground game as any team in the NFL.

That's just my opinion and I have often been known to be wrong.:P

I get why some like Snelling alot... I like the guy also... But lets be realistic... As a backup who received carries... Dude only averaged 3.7 yards a carry... Snelling is good at his role but i dont know can he consistently be "the guy" for us (Turner type role) .

Not having a change of pace RB hurt us a lot last year. The whole running game suffered. Im betting that Jaquizz fixes that problem.

I agree.. I think we missed that alot... I was recently telling somebody... Most dont realize how important Norwood was... Having that explosive back was definitely missing

Turner wasn't "the guy" in San Diego, but when given a chance, look what happened.

We don't know, nobody knows, but I honestly believe that JS deserves every chance to prove his true ability.

Exactly, increase Snelling's carries by a 70-80 and let Quizz handle 3rd and long. We need Turner as fresh as we can keep him for our end of the season push and the payoffs(hopefully)

The guy averaged 5.5 a carry as a backup for the chargers... Normally your good backups thats in the rotation will bust atleast 5 yards per carry.... I'm not knocking Snelling... I'm just saying.. for a guy that aveaged 3.7 yards a carry... Guys are taking him over a probowler (Turner) .

Dont get me wrong... Could Snelling be a RB that carry the majority of the load for a Shannahan offense (like a Reuben Droughns) ... Maybe yea... But here.. We need a work horse (How we use turner) ... I dont know can Snelling do that

I get what you are saying.. I want Snelling back also (in his rule now with a lil more carries) ...You gotta think about it tho... Quizz is going to cut in Snelling receiving touches.. I think Snelling know that also... But it sound like he wants to go out and be "The Guy" for a team or try to be

really? dude has only put up 1600 & 1300 yard seasons when healthy and was on pace to do the same the year he got injured. averages about 4.5 yards per carry and is a TD machine in the red zone. and that's running into 9 & 10 man boxes on a regular basis.

I agree with you. Snelling is a useful guy in our offense. But not as a primary guy. He could, however, as you pointed out be nice in a shanahan offense (i'm thinking Mike Anderson type).

But he also is a non-factor in the passing game, that is what alot of people are forgetting. His blocking is "ok" but it hurts our passing game (especially the TEs) that the defense has not to account for Turner on play action after the faked hand-off. Turner already has become a two down RB outside of goalline situations and he is not getting any younger. He served this team very well but for the future he will limit and slow down our offense.

Unfortunately Snelling isn´t the answer, for a RB he is no spring chicken either and he while he is a great receiver able to produce alot of YAC, he just isn´t a great runner, runs too high and lacks vision. He is a situational type RB and a backup and even though I expect Turners production to decline this season, I´d still rather have Turner on 1st/2nd downs. Snelling actually will have to compete for his playing time now that Quizz is around.

Anyway, we will have to draft an all purpose RB in the next 1-2 years.

Your points are valid. And I agree that Snelling is not the answer--has little to do with his age, more with his overall running ability. It'll be interesting to see how MM integrates Quizz (assuming he plays) with Turner, because Turner's one dimensional play really made our offense predictable. If things work out correctly, I see Turner mutating into a jerome bettis (late in career) role, with Quizz being our Willie Parker type.

No matter what happens, I will always love Snelling for that bruising, snorting, "I ain't going down!" run that he had at the end of the Tampa Bay game to clinch our first ever BtB winning season.

A freeze frame from that run is still my background on my home computer.

I feel like Snelling has already earned a permanent spot on this team. His play in 2009 when Turner went down was starter-worthy on any NFL team.

The FO may feel differently, but i hope not.

Losing Snelling would create a huge hole in the depth of our RB position and would have us crossing our fingers for no injuries everytime Turner touched the ball.

Last year we were lucky in that we were basically injury-free. Having Snelling available in a just-in-case scenario makes me feel alot more secure in our RB situation.

wow, I guess it wasnt posted already haha. Good find I guess.

Anyways, it's interesting that some people think Snelling could be our future starter.

Turner still has years in those legs and from what I've heard he is looking very great during this offseason downtime, just as last year (when I think he lost like 10 lbs? didnt he?)

Snelling is a force, no doubt. However, I dont believe he would be the same back without Turner as a compliment.

Yea this was posted..lol.. But this is a topic we can talk about alot because some feel like Snelling is starter material and some think he is best as a role player.

I agree with you tho... I like Snelling but i cant believe some think he is in the same league as turner... A probowl RB... I think he is best at his role that he has now... The problem is... Quizz is going to cut into some of the carries and 3rd down snaps... So i get Snellings point.. If we offer Snelling the same contract the Bronco's or Redskins offer him (they need backs) .. He will most likely leave because he will get more carries... The way he sound on the interview.. He wants starter type amount of carries
