youngbloodz
Well considering I know more this type of stuff because I was a student athlete on a scholly I would take that bet. Also Small didn't say anything about him buying a new car every 3 years. He said he used his money to make his car payment
aPureTerror
for us here... it stared like a month and a half ago... i wouldnt mind him being our coach. But i think it's highly unlikely.LOL
aPureTerror
Yeah, it did but it doesn't make it any better to be a Buckeye b/c he walks away and the university will get the penalties. No one should feel sorry for Tressel, he knows what he was doing was wrong and he has made many millions coaching a game. I know he resigned but I would say he got a 'deal' to do so as well.hard to see how anyone could.

They got things they needed AND things they wanted. How much of each....depends on each individual I suppose. Careful painting with a too broad a brush. He lacked the credit to qualify for a loan on his own. He said one of the other cars was purchased through his parents, and the other through his then-girlfriend's mother.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6600920*Plays world's smallest violin for student athletes* Edited May 30, 2011 by Billy Ocean

youngbloodz
Billy remember Small came out and said that person twisted his words. And the other person is right about difference between want and need. I have friends at almost every major D 1 school. I know how it is when you need money and a friend can't even buy you a meal. I know how it is. You guys are talking about things from another's point of view. I have first hand experience. I was a struggling SA at the University of Miami. That's why I think the players should get paid something

South FL Dawg
Hey youngbloodz, Fair enough. I actually have no problem giving athletes some cash considering how much time they have to spend practicing, lifting, etc. I just don't have much sympathy for the Tat 5....at least own up to what you did instead of hide behind the athletic dept machinery. Some people will say I don't know how much athletes already get but I know they get extra stuff in cash and in property from boosters and others. So when I say give them pay for play, I know some guys are going to double dip. I don't think you ever get rid of people like that. You do the best you can to weed them out, if you give a rat's hiney about your standards. Some other kids are actually following the rules and those I wouldn't mind helping. youngbloodz
True Dawg. But the Tats wouldn't had been a big deal if Tressel wouldn't had lied. It's a snowball effect. They start uncovering other violations. I just know how it feel to see your jersey in a store and you don't see any of that money. Of course I was never good enough for my jersey to sell lol. But I seen my teammates

SacFalcFan
Heres what I said...And here is what Small said...*Plays world's smallest violin for student athletes*yep smalls did indeed say that and people need to stop with the pay player's stuff when it comes to this situation. this is about a program that was soo dirty that it's compliance officer was involved in setting up deals for players and it's head coach lied to not only the ncaa once, but twice and did it in writing. he knew the rules and he did one of the worst things a coach could do by knowingly playing ineligible players and lying about it. even after everything came out in march tressel lied during his press conference with comments that he didn't send any emails on and yet we find out he sent this info he received to pryor's mentor (a buckeye booster). tressel's history of cheating goes back to youngstown state so this is no surprise to anyone who knows about tressel and his history. tressel is no hero for quitting. he was given the option to quit or be fired so he quit. he didn't have a leg to stand on and he knew it. another si piece should be coming out soon with further information and possible allegations. also this type of rampant cheating does not happen at most schools. youngbloodz
Thanks Dawg. I hope we get it turned around. We get to play OSU in Miami. Hopefully we can bring more pain to em
youngbloodz
I keep telling everyone this happens at most major D 1 schools. Most are just good enough about hiding it. If the NCAA wanted to, they can find major violations at most schools. And this is a fact
SacFalcFan
We will disagree all day long. This type of rampant cheating that ohio state did is not happening at all schools. There is nothing factual about saying it does.
youngbloodz
If you think Ohio State is the only school cheating than you are wrong. I have my facts. It's nothing for boosters to give players $100 handshakes. You think USC was the only school paying for players families houses? First it was SC and now Ohio State. Even Auburn and Miss State were accused of trying to do shady dealings. You really think all the recruits are choosing these schools based on what a coach tells him on his official visit? Lol. Even Marcus Dupree was telling espn about those things. It's right there in front of you.
SacFalcFan
You don't have the type of rampant cheating at ohio state at most major college programs and there are zero facts to back up that statement. There are many reasons why a player will pick one school over another and no it doesn't mean anything bad has happened in those instances. The program that Ohio State was running is beyond just 100 dollar handshakes. You had a culture of cheating going on that included the head coach and even his compliance officer. I am not saying you are wrong that cheating doesn't go on, but my point is i do not agree it's at this level with most college football program. youngbloodz
Just because I don't choose to tell people on a message board exactly what I know doesn't mean I don't have stone cold facts bout what I'm saying. I know exactly how recruits think and exactly what a student athlete faces. Sac these aren't things I would make up. But if you are anyone else think I'm lying than that's cool. NewFalcon
you have got to be one unlucky dude to survive Maurice Clarett and get taken out by some tattoos and memorabiliaVery True Summerbunny; however, let's not forget that Tressel lied to the NCAA about how long he knew about the 5 players and tattoo-gate--the most recent investigation about the car deals for football players was the death blow. Here's the timeline, according to the Associated Press:Ohio State-Tressel timelineThe guy got what he deserved--especially when for so many years he came off as some 'holier than thou' pillar of virtue. The NCAA has a term for schools who seem to commit repeated violations: "Lack of Institutional Control".There will be some (well-deserved/painful) penalties to follow I hope. Oh yeah, in the spirit of further piling on Ohio State: Pryor Being Investigated
youngbloodz
I don't think OSU will get anything worst than what USC got. They might get off easier because they self reported it. But if they get a huge reduction in scholarships that will cripple them for a couple of years.

But if they get a huge reduction in scholarships that will cripple them for a couple of years. They will get hit worse than usc imo. You had a star player who got a big house and members of a coaching staff who knew about it and did nothing and huge arrogance with usc that actually was a detriment to them. In OSU's case you have cheating that goes back to 2002. You have another 9 current players who are also alleged to have done the same thing guys like pryor did. That was not self reported, that was found out by sports illustrated and George Dohrmann. You will hear the term lack of institutional control with the new findings. You have pryor with 6 cars in 3 years and smalls with 3 cars himself. You have more than 15 players who are part of this. it will be worse for osu. the osu investigation is just at the beginning..
