Cris Carter Thinks Nnamdi Asomugha Should Sign With Atlanta

Recommended Posts

How about Charles Johnson and Johnathan Joseph?

What if we went a different path and did something like this. Good, young, lot's of upside... sign Cullen Jenkins DE Green Bay. Josh Wilson DB Baltimore, Owens out. I have faith Robinson will play better this year and I am more than cool with Grimes. I would love to sign Trueblood RT (Boston College, 2nd round pick) from the Bucs. This would help with draft picks lost without as much risk as drafting.

On NFL Live, an ESPN program, analyst Cris Carter thinks that the Atlanta Falcons would be the best fit for free-agent corner Nnamdi Asomugha. This is a big statement, because if it were to happen it would create all sorts of problems on the depth chart.

I look for the Atlanta Falcons. They traded most of their draft picks to move up in the draft because they had a player they targeted in Julio Jones. Now they need to address their defensive needs, especially their secondary. He [Asomugha] would give them the ability to play zone coverage and man, which most teams don't have because they don't have versatility at the corner-back spot.

While Carter makes a great point that having versatility opens up the playbook defensively, I still have no idea how this would go down with Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes. The depth chart would be messed up with Grimes most likely being demoted to the nickel spot which would upset him a great deal because he's been terrific at intercepting passes.

Demote Robinson? Then you've upsetted your big, free-agent signing from a year before, limiting his playing time. This would never happen unless Brent Grimes left the football team. I don't see that happening any time soon because just recently he was training with Matt Ryan and the guys at a local high school.

Carter had more to say though:

The Philadelphia's and Atlanta's, I think because he's been in Oakland and hasn't played on that high level like were used to seeing great players. I think he wants that stage.

The Falcons have more pressing issues, mainly at the Defensive End position. Atlanta has been linked to Ray Edwards and Charles Johnson two highly sought after, potential free-agents.

If we were to get him, I think Dunta would be a better nickel corner because he is the most aggresive DB on our team

I know there have been no moves done yet but I'm praying for a season because I am PUMPED about some Atlanta Falcons football next year.

If we did sign nnamdi then what would Trent dilfer ***** about?

How we didn't fix our DE position.

The Falcons would never do this. When was the last time we signed a top tiered FA? Julius Peppers?

Albeit our defense would improve dramatically with Nnamdi locking down the number one WR. We can put Grimes at number 2 and Robinson in the slot (although he'd be an expensive slot CB). Then we could roll over a safety to help Grimes over the top, which is where he gets beat most of the time, i.e. have the safety lay the WR out when someone tries to throw a jump ball to Grimes' side.'

We can leave Nnamdi on a island.

Dunta Robinson, Tony Gonzalez (trade and sign), Michael Turner, John Abraham, Lawyer Milloy. We have one big FA signing just about every year, or at least every other year. I am sure Abraham was the top DE when we signed him. Turner was the top available RB. Robinson was the top available CB. Gonzo was the top TE looking to move. Milloy was the top available SS when we signed him.

It would be a shorter list if we said what years we didn't sign at least one player that wasn't the top available at their position. They might not have been the top available FA at any position, but top available at the position we signed.

I think we are two or three players away from having a great defense. And two of these players are another corner and defense end. I think we need one more athletic outside LB maybe Dent can be that LB. If we were able get Charles and Nnamdi we would be the team to beat.

Eh he would probably do what he always does, sign on to FalconsLife as Mr. Right and whine. Then he would go spend the afternoon at Swinging Richard's

To be absolutely honest, I think we would let Grimes go if we were to bring in Nnamdi. If we didn't give Grimes the big contract he deserves, then we could possibly land both Edwards and Nnamdi. We would have to find a cheaper nickel corner or just run with Franks/Owens there.

Agreed. No way we pay Grimes 8 mil after giving Nmandi 13+

I don't think we would, but I also didn't think we'd jump 21 spots to get a Wide Receiver either. There is a good chance there is no cap this season, and Arthur is really wanting to get a ring sooner than later. You never know.

I'm not putting anything past this FO ever again.

Yes we could afford everything Johnson and Asomugha included

we currently have 56 Mil in cap I think Pat Y said, Davis and Anderson both have 3.5 mil a year contracts, eliminate those were at 63 Mil a year, give Asomugha a 15 mil a year contract (More realistic is like 10-11 Mil, but im doing this for dramatic effect.) leaving us with 48 Mil, Sign Jones (about 6 Mil a year, rest of the draft picks equal up to 4 mil a year, Johnson to 10 mil a year) leaving us with 28 Mil a year, sign grimes to a 6 mil a year deal, we now haev 21 Mil, sign Dahl for 4 mil, and Blalock for 5 Mil, and we have 12 Mil in cap space, let's say we sign Snelling for 3 Mil a year, and let go of either Peterson or Nicolas, leaving us anywhere from 10-15 Mil cap space in the end.

We could resign all our priority players and draft Picks, and FAs, and still have around 10 mil in cap to work with.

I hope your right. If we could add those two, bundle that with Julio and Quizz bolstering our offense and we have to be one of the leadrunners for the Lombardi.

Any chance you can provide that Pat Y link?
