I personally believe we won't have NFL football until next season if ever unless "and I know you righties HATE ME for saying this", unless there's some sort of government intervention.

The pressure will become enormous to get it solved after the 1st regular season game is cancelled.

I agree, but what the owners are trying to do push through will never fly. The players are not idiots. The owners expect them to pay for the owners greediness. Hey, if the NFL ends up failing there'll be someone ready to step in and start up a new league.

The greed we are witnessing is unfathomable at this point.rolleyes.gif

full season. this rumor about shutting down the NFL is nonsense.

the courts will side with the players on the lockout which will open the NFL for business. if the NFL decides to shut down operations, they have made a voluntary choice to suspend the league that they cannot blame on anybody else. There would be more lawsuits than we could even imagine thrown at the NFL

Also, the NFL owners know that if they were to do that, they would be opening the door to a new league that would get support in the short term due to public resentment. You would see a new league pop up very quickly as states would be desperate to get some revenue out of the stadiums and investors like Mark Cuban would be putting in the money to get the former NFL players signed up

I tend to agree....BUT NOTHING the owners would do would surprise me in the least. People seem to keep thinking the players are going to cave due to lack of a paycheck. Just imagine the evaporation of a BILLION DOLLAR ASSET? We keep thinking the owners can't possibly be that foolish........OR COULD THEY?

I think that owners like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder might want to because they have the resources to do it.

The other owners don't have the resources. If it gets to that point I think you will see division in the owners' ranks

What in HeII is Goodell's part in this? Pete Rozelle's the one that set this thing up and kept the owners together & happy. Well, all except for Al Davis. But it look's to me like Goodell is taking direction solely from Jones & Snyder under the guise of forcing the players into caving.

Of course they could JB......NFL owners made their billions long before they decided to buy the big toy(an NFL franchise). Not one of them has a dime invested in a stadium. Most owners make a decision each year on how much money they will invest in their ultimate toy and that's all they spend. Granted, you'll get a few that will pour tons of cash at free agents etc. like that jackazz in D.C. He's so caught up in leaving his mark that he can't see past the dollar signs.

There isn't one NFL franchise owner that derives his entire yearly income from his toy(NFL team).

Some talk about another startup league.......well, who's more suited financially to do so than the current NFL owners?

And now we have the courts involved.......

Jerry Jones is the GM of the team. He picks the players with input from his scouts/coaches.

Sure he has missed on some players the last few years but player acquisition is not an exact science and I'd like to see TD or any other GM's track record after 20 years.

he has missed on pretty much everything since Jimmy Johnson left

that Barry Switzer SB Team was Jimmy Johnsons team

even with Tuna they couldnt get over the hump

Its safe to say that you don't know very much about the Cowboys with statements like this

But you're right they haven't gotten over the hump in 15 years and since were holding other teams up to these standards.

What's the hold up with your boys? Their trophy case should be full by now be full with all the hits they've had.

It only a valid arguement if it paints the Falcons in a positive light! You've been here a while, you should know that.

ATL has the Halas trophy from 1998 or whenever and the much coveted NFCS crown in their case, so back off buddy!!!

Really! According to most Falcon fans here and all the crowing we hear about how talented they are and how EVERY single move they make no matter how puzzling or risky is nothing short of brilliant...........it's a wonder they haven't won the last 3 Super Bowls..................Something must be missing..........OH, THAT'S RIGHT!..........It's Julias Jones!

While many fans like to think that the current season (2011-2012) is 'Superbowl or Bust,' in reality, the Falcons have already busted and can only play 'make up'. It has been stated that last year (2010 season) was the Falcons best chance at winning the Superbowl: http://life.atlantaf...win-superbowl/. It was a perfect storm: easy schedule, healthy players, Gonzalez and Abraham still producing, home field advantage throughout the playoffs, etc...

But we missed our opportunity...and all the Falcons can do is wait for the lockout to end and watch our veterans continue to age. Even worse, the Falcons are now stuck between a rock and a hard place. Why? Just like the fans, the front office knew that we blew our best shot at winning the Superbowl. As last year was the supposed Superbowl year, the Falcons are now in a transition period and must decide between two outcomes:

1) Try to make up for last year's humiliating playoff exit by patching holes via the FA.

2) Rebuild the franchise from the ground up via the draft.

Now, the Falcons have been 'rebuilding' for over 46 years and it seems like our front office has decided to go with the first route. Instead of building through the draft, this year the front office may try to build through the FA and 'pay' for talent. The first indicator of this change in philosophy occurred during the draft when we traded our future for Julio Jones. While we all have high hopes for Julio Jones, we all know that this a career defining moment for Young Tom. If Jones fails to produce, Tom is as good as gone.

As embarrassed as our organization is from the loss and as desperate as Tom is in trying to make up for the missed opportunity, the worst we can do is be non-committing and indecisive, that is continue to be stuck between the rock and the hard place. We must choose one route and commit to it all the way, and in this case, we must continue to pay for players. That means we must continue to sign top free agents and bolster our team with stars like Charles Johnson and Zach MIller. We cannot halfheartedly enter the free agency and only sign one middle tier player as the result will only be more grief and pain.

Why?

-As we have traded our future away, we have no chance of replacing our aging veterans such as Tony Gonzalez, John Abraham, Todd McClure (34), and Mike Peterson through the draft. As a result, with huge holes on our team and no up and comers, our only choice is to rebuild.

-The only way to avoid rebuilding the team is to find replacements through the FA. That includes signing Zach Miller to replace Gonzalez and Johnson to replace Abraham.

In other words, our best chance to win the Superbowl was in 2010, but we could not due to our overconfidence in the 'Dome mojo' and lack of talent. While in 2011 our chances have greatly diminished, we still have a tiny strand of hope. This hope can only be realized if we bolster our team with numerous key FA signings so that we can induce a 'spike' in talent while capitalizing on Abraham, Gonzalez, McClure, and Peterson's last breaths. If we do sign enough FA players, in 2012, we will have the same level of talent as in 2010 (assuming Gonzalez, Abraham, McClure, and Peterson leave). We can than hope to compliment that talent via the 2012 FA. If we do not sign enough FAs, then in 2012, we will have a huge drop in talent and our only hope is to rebuild.

All of this is assumes that we still have a tiny strand of hope, and the only way for that to occur is if the lockout is lifted.

Strike a chord jb?

2011-january-8-18-35-12_medium.jpg

I'm an E chord man myself and you keep playing F and it's extremely off key to boot. So I suggest you find a good tuner and get with the program.

I have the name of a really good professional Tuner........Josh Freeman. I suggest you get a hold of him before the start of the season so you don't sound so incredibly OUT OF TUNE.wink.gif
