2011 NFL Draft

Recommended Posts

My mock draft:

27. Cameron Heyward - DE

59. Jarvis Jenkins - DT

91. Alex Green - RB

124. Joseph Barksdale - OT

158. Austin Pettis - WR

192. David Arkin - OG

210. Jake Kirkpatrick - C

229. Weslye Saunders - TE

230. Mark Herzlich - OLB

What I would have done on draft day if I kept all picks.

27. Gabe Carimi - OT

59. Brandon Harris - CB

91. Alex Green - RB

124. Davon House - CB

158. Virgil Green - TE

192. Cliff Mathews - DE

210. Lawrence Guy - DT

229. Jake Kirkpatrick - C

230. Mark Herzlich - OLB

What I would have done if I could find a team to trade up with.

27. Gabe Carimi - OT

58. Torrey Smith - WR

86. Allen Bailey - DE

158. Virgil Green - TE

192. Lawrence Guy - DT

So in this scenario I trade up to 58 by using 210, 229 and 230.

I also trade up to pick 86 using 91 and 124.

Ofcourse I admit that the trading scenario could be greatly flawed since I obviously know where Smith and Bailey go in the draft but I'll share it based on the fantasy that you do hear some pre-pick chatter.

The only thing I would change, based on what I know now, is I maybe would have taken Romeus with one of that first 7th round

er and hoped Andrew Jackson was there at the second one.

good call....to tweak your thoughts a tad, I probably would have taken Romeus in 6th round, kept Andrew Jackson with the early 7th and Cliff Matthews with the late 7th. We could have signed Matt Bosher or one of the other 4-5 punters that were all UDFA's whenever the NFL offseason started.

Some might say you cannot draft two developmental DEs(Matthews and Romeus) but clearly we need as many "bites at the apple" as we can get for future D-Ends - would not preclude us from getting a DE in free agency. One of those guys (Matthews/Romeus) could go on practice squad.

If I was the Falcons I would have preferred this draft

1. Gabe Carimi - You have 3 good players on your O-Line who are free agents. No way you can re-sign them all.

Carimi is a stud.

2. Greg Little - Great catching radius and YAC potential. You could argue that it is a riskier pick, but the high expectations you are going to put on Julio Jones is adding unnescessary bust potential.

3. Drake Nevis - Trade your 6th rounder and maybe a 5th or 6th next year to move up for him.

4. DJ Williams - Would have been a great compliment to Tony Gonzalez and have given you a Patriots type TE duo.

5 Jacquizz Rodgers - with trade up. This was a great pick by you guys.

7. Matt Bosher - Guess is he would have still been there in the 7th. If not who cares? He's a kicker.

7. Cliff Matthews

Carimi, Little, and DJ Williams would have helped your O more than just Julio Jones. Not to mention you'd have your 1st and 4th next year.

Or if I was a Falcons fan this draft would have been even better. Trade down with the Bengals for their 4th since they were worried about getting Dalton. Then you could have gone

2. Jaball Sheard - Top speed rusher on the other side of Abraham

4. Clint Boling - Help make sure your line doesn't fall off due to FA losses.

No comments about the argument that you could have addressed O-Line, D-Line, Tight End, and Wide Receiver instead of just Wide Receiver?

Your first proposal is better than the second and much better than what the Falcons actually did, but you're not likely to get much agreement around here.

the thing is this team wanted impact at WR.

outside of Green and Jones every WR had more risk than reward.

CLE didnt impress me with their picks. Sure, they hauled a lot of picks, but I would MUCH rather have Julio Jones than Greg Little (no locker room leadership to control him) and Phil Taylor(a 3-4 NT, which CLE is switching away from.)

They gave a 3rd to move up for Taylor, so that washed out the value of the two 4ths they got in the deal. They should have taken Cameron Jordan with the first pick IMO.

CLE sure better hit on that late 1st next year or they aren't gonna look so good.

I thought Little had the talent, but he NEEDED to be on a team with a vet coach/qb/wr soemthing. CLE has rookie coach, young QB...and really no vet leaders. I would bet on little being a problem there. Even if he plays good eventually i could see him shipped out. Reminds me a lot of Brandon Marshall.

Really, the only player left @ 27 I would have wanted in round 1 was Gabe Carimi. I think he will be like Bryan Bulaga in the Pros, and has pro bowl potential @ RT.

Even if Da'Quan is a Gaines Adams clone (which I disagree with. Gaines had no power move to go speed to power.) Even if Da'Quan never gets on the field because of the knee. At least the Bucs are showing they understand the impotance of the D-Line, that they are going to do whatever they can to address it, and that they aren't going to roll with players who aren't performing just because they were drafted high.

Wait---didn't Gaines Adams pass away last year? Lets leave him alone god rest his soul
