Dago
thats what I have been saying all along. they netted giving up 4 picks in the trade but used what they got back to get JJ5 total picks used to get JJ. 4 picks given to Cleveland
Padawan Knight
Yeah. Saying that the Falcons gave up five picks for Jones would be like saying that the Panthers gave up a first rounder for Cam Newton...

Padawan Knight
'gave up', nospent in total, yesI don't disagree with your phrasing since it is accurate. However, many people are saying that we "gave up" 5 picks.
mvcrook
browns: "We have the number 6 pick in the draft and will entertain offers for it"falcons: "We will give you our first, second and fouth this year...and our first and fourt next year for that #6 pick"browns: "DEAL!!!"Question: How many picks did the falcons give to the browns for that #6 pick?Answer (typing very slowly):1. #27 this year2. #59 this year3. #124 this year4. First round next year5. Fourth round next yearHow is this even debateable? They traded 5 picks to the browns for the #6 pick. And that is accurate. /end argument.since you are looking to get technical about it, no it is not accurate.your statement would indicate that JJ was a Cleveland Brown and that the Falcons gave the Browns 5 picks to acquire him.your end was premature to say the least. hope that isn't a habitual problem

If it was the falcons intent to get the #6 only to acquire Jones, then not only is that statement accurate, it is a fact. They gave up five (5) draft picks to the browns to get Jones, unless all they wanted was the #6 pick with no certain player in mind. Do you think the falcons were making that move to draft anyone other than Jones? If so, you may have a decent argument but if not, bradael's end appears to be not premature but overdue. Way overdue.Seems like you agree:in summation, 4 NET picks lost to Cleveland. 5 total picks spent to get JJ.From 3 or 4 or maybe 5 posts above. I'm not going to actually count and say for sure, that's a sure fire debate around here. Edited May 8, 2011 by mvcrook

You must be basing this on Ryan only going into his 4th year. Which in itself is extremely puzzling seeing as he's nothing more than a game manager. What about Turner? What about Gonzalez? What about Abraham? Just to mention a few. It's pretty obvious TD & Artie believe the time is now! Truth is, if you all don't win a Super Bowl this season or next you might as well resign your self to the fact that it's highly unlikely you will for another 10 to 20 years. Truth is, if you all don't win a Super Bowl this season or next you might as well resign your self to the fact that it's highly unlikely you will for another 10 to 20 years. It's the same false argument JB that they use saying they are so young. The only team in the NFCS OLDER than them is the Saints and that's just barely. They are the 19th youngest team, which puts them well past the middle of 32 teams. As a matter of fact, only 6 teams in the NFC were OLDER than them heading into 2010. Falcon fans have a problem, and that problem is that they think if they repeat it enough times it's true. " we're a young team!" " we're on the cusp of a Super Bowl" " we are elite at every position!" a 13-3 record is a guarantee of a beter record next year. " But truth? The Falcons went into 2010 older than Tampa, Carolina, Dallas, NY Giants, Philly, Green Bay, Chicago and 11 other NFL teams, Oh but they are younguns on the cusp! the oldest younguns. Way overdue.1)doesn't matter who Atlanta intended to draft. The trade for picks and the drafting of the player are two separate and distinct actions, not one.2)does anybody understand the concept of net loss? the Saints had a net loss of 1 draft pick as they sent 2 to New England and got one in return. They then used that 1 return pick to get Ingram which means we used two total picks to get Ingram
Padawan Knight
It's semantics really...Six of one, half a dozen of another...To-may-to, To-mah-to...Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to...The Falcons picked Julio Jones #6 and lost a 2011 2nd Rounder and 4th Rounder along with 2012 1st Rounder and 4th Rounder. However you figure this year's #27 pick is irrelevant.

Net loss is a very easy concept to grasp and I think we all get it. When the question is, "What was the falcons net loss in the trade with the browns?", your answer is valid. On the other hand, when the question is, as it has always been, "How many picks did the falcons trade to the browns to get the #6 pick (Jones)?", the concept of net loss has nothing to so with obtaining that answer. The only concept you need for that is addition and the ability to count by ones up to five.
