Jacquizz and the offensive line

Recommended Posts

In my excitement about the new acquisition of Jacquizz, I decided to do a little digging. Here's what I found.

Oregon State Offensive Line

Wilder McAndrews | 6-4, 286

Mike Remmers | 6-4, 299

Grant Johnson | 6-3, 293

Burke Ellis | 6-4, 290

Alex Linnenkohl | 6-2, 303

Atlanta Falcons Offensive Line

Clabo, Tyson | 6-6, 331

Dahl, Harvey | 6-5, 305

McClure, Todd | 6-1, 296

Blalock, Justin | 6-4, 329

Baker, Sam | 6-5, 307

With much more skilled blockers and larger bodies to hide behind, I can see Quizz doing a lot of damage. What do you think?

Edit: The skill of the O line may be nullified by the skill of opposing D lines at times.

Hey I am hoping Quizz does great things just as much as the next Falcons fan, but put together a list of all the D-lineman he played against in college and compare that to the D-lines he will be facing in the pros, then get back to me.

Though interesting, your analysis is one-sided.

Understandable, but you can't avoid the fact that they are larger (as all o lines are in the NFL). He will have a better opportunity to hide behind them, then dart away for some yardage.

Give me a pass for the one-sided analysis, I'm a homer and it's only my 16th post

I think you are trying to get a little too technical. IF they were all 6-1 offensive lineman, it would still be hard to find Rodgers out of the backfield. Rodger's is talented and he will help us in a lot of ways regardless, the thing I like aside how electeric he can be in open field is at his size, he only fumbled the ball one time his whole career, that is impressive. He is a baller, that clip of him running over that safety says it all for me, that was sweet and if you have not seen it, you need to you tube it, "Jacquizz Rodgers runs over oregon safety

The one problem with that train of thought is there's also much larger more skilled players on Defense compared to the PAC-10 and other colleges he played against. He has the chance to make an impact like Sproles but it will be interesting to see how he does against bigger/stronger/more skilled players.

he sure looked like a champ when he smoked USC single handedly...

Another thing to look at... Warrick Dunn playing weight and height was 187 at 5' 9"... This guy weighs 10 more pounds and is 3 inches shorter! Amazing hes able to maintain his agility at that size and weight.

Hopefully, Rodgers will be Jerious Norwood minus the injuries!

I believe that he is significantly different than Norwood for a couple of reasons...

1. Norwood doesn't have nearly the agility of Quizz, he's pretty stiff and more of a pure speed back.

2. I truly believe he can truck a corner or a safety in the NFL. I've seen him truck LB's in college.

3. His size is an advantage. Quizz is 5' 6" and Norwood is 5' 11", but Norwood only outweighs him by around 10 pounds!

I would like to keep Norwood if he's willing to take a pay cut... We kept 4 running backs on the roster last year, why not this year?

Norwood is WAY faster, which makes a difference in the passing game. I think they bring different things to the table, and I, too, would like to keep both. Two big backs (Turner, Snelling) and two speed backs (Norwood, Quizz) but that's only if Norwood would take a cheap or 1 yr deal.

wow this is dumb

You might want to check your punctuation before you call anything dumb, genius... <_< There isn't any football and was trying to make a little conversation. If you read (if you can), some other posters had some good thoughts and chimed in. May not be the greatest topic, but I thought it was alright...
