2011 schedule analysis.

Recommended Posts

It's gonna be tough because of a lot better qb play this season. I've been ranting on and on about the secondary, but if they can improve from last year, 11-5 is achievable. They got torched last year vs good qbs but the falcons still pulled out some of those victories despite the big numbers.

I'm thinking 10-6 but hoping for 9-7

Edit:

I just watched the video....ouch! Tough schedule to start, finish and after the bye

You cannot predict how tough a schedule is going to be at this point. You really just can't. How many times have easy schedules turned out to be tough and vice versa?

That is true, there's always a team that supposed to be good and sucks and a crappy team that turns out being good, but there is no NFC west on the schedule this year. I think most of those teams will be decent.

haha hes a saints fan of course he is hoping for us to go 9-7. i think we will go 10-6 and hopefully 11-5, it is definitely a harder schedule than last year and thats a given because we played the nfc west, but that means the rest of our division has a tougher schedule too. i think there will be a bigger regression for tampa bay simply because they couldnt beat any teams with winning records last year except for the last game against the saints. at least i think thats the only team they beat that had a winning record

Well seeing as we beat the Saints twice next year I hope the Aints can pull out some wins or Im going to have to laugh a lot.

I do see the bookends of our schedule being tough but have you seen the middle part of our schedule? plus the bye week in week 8 which is perfect. I kinda like the schedule. when we go 12-4 the only ones who will be able to say anything bad about us is Trent Dilfer and Skip Bayless. hahaha

the schedule does play a factor, but you know another thing that helped falcons last season was being the least penalized in the league.

i wonder if that will happen again?

You know another thing that is going to help the Falcons next season... Julio Jones

I don't know guys 12-4 seems like a bit of a stretch. Even my 11-5 is borderline optimistic. I hope 10-6 (+/- 1) is enough to win the NFC South. The Buccs are gonna be good competition too. And the Saints always play us tough. I'm sorry, call me a bad fan, but, as of now, I just don't see us beating them twice.

In 2006 we went to the NFCCG and lost to the bears. We just KNEW we were right there and only needed a few pieces to make it. You couldn't tell us sh** during the offseason. We made some bad moves in free agency but me as a fan had no doubt that we would pick up right where we left off and get right over the hump, but nooooooo, we started out 0-4 vs good to decent teams and might have finished 8-8.

This NFL is so crazy, you never know what's really gonna happen. I learned that each season is a new season and the last one has nothing to do with the current one. The Falcons are not immune to this either, even with Julio the Great. Your first 4 games are a mutha. Start out 3-1 and you'll be looking good.

11-5.

BVG showed near the end of the season that he was going to be more aggressive with his blitz calls. we missed a lot of sacks on brees and rodgers. that gets fixed.

How? You really aren't going to beat Brees and Rodgers by blitzing. The Falcons simply don't have the personnel to stop the good QBs in the NFL. You can't beat them by blitzing. You actually have to have a good pass rush.

Rodgers had a league best 107.4 QB Rating against the blitz last year. The Falcons aren't the only team to have been burned when blitzing Rodgers. You just aren't going to confuse Rodgers and Brees by sending CBs and LBs. The only way to stop QBs like Brees and Rodgers is to generate a good base pass rush and play good coverage. Basically you need a good defense. Its really simple. The defense has to win the matchups. If you have to bring extra guys to get pressure Brees and Rodgers will have a field day.

don't fault the falcons for being disciplined.

I wonder if garrett hartley will shank another kick next year, i could use a good laugh

we beat both rodgers and brees last year. it's not crazy to think they can do it again
