Would love to keep Clabo, don't think it's going to happen though. I think TD is resigned the the fact that we will be moving forward at RT (The news that Carimi would have been the pick had we stayed put gives this more weight). I envision a tackle needy team opening up their wallet for Clabo (Philly, San Diego).

No way both Clabo and Dahl walk in FA. I think your really reaching here.

That right side has been the O-Line's strength for years now. If both Dahl and Clabo were walking in free agency then TD would not have waited until his last 7th Round pick to take OL.

I doubt both Peterson and Nichols are let go too. At least one of them stay. I think they Falcons really like Peterson's veteran influence in the locker-room and Nichols is steady as they come. I can see Nichols walking if a team gives him starters money but I think Peterson is back for sure to mentor Spoon and Dent.

I like Durant quite a bit...he was one of my favorite players in that draft class. Even though he had a down year I doubt he comes that cheap. I would like to have him though.

Durant wasn't even tendered in Jax this year. His stock is definitely not at its highest. This is the perfect sitaution for him to increase his value for next year.

Best case we keep 2/3 offensive line starters, worst case 1/3. I reasoned 1/3 due to the big money spent on Edwards. It makes more sense to committ big money to Blalock than Dahl due to his youth and the fact that he has gotten better each year in the league. Dahl has likely reached his ceiling and could be a decending player over the next few seasons. I like Clabo but think he will command too much as a free agent.

I didn't see the new contracts for Grimes, Snelling and Weems.

Also, good luck with the right side of that Oline.

What's the final 8 rule state?

This tends to be overlooked, doesn't it? The one saving grace of that first-round loss is that it will allow the Falcons to navigate in the FA market, if and when it develops. On the other hand, if you re-sign Grimes and Clabo at the very least (and I'd call that the very least that should be done), pick up Edwards, and add in the Julio Jones contract, the cap ceiling may be met. The Falcons are at $102M with the current roster, the last capped year (2009) cap was $130M.

"Final 8" rule in 2010.

The rule will restrict the final eight teams in the playoffs from signing free agents. The final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired.

Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years.

There is a mechanism to permit the final eight teams to sign an unrestricted free agent for each one of their own unrestricted free agents who sign with another club as long as they don't spend more than what their own lost player received from his new club.

You are right about Grimes, Snelling and Weems. All three were tendered so I am assuming the current rules will still be in affect and we keep them for next year.

No I'm asking for board help.

When I quote it jumbles everything with no spaces or tabs. I've earned about -200 points for doing that. I don't like it either. How do I fix that? Mods? Rev? Anybody. Help!!!

Not sure. It did it to me on another thread where it placed things side by side. Not sure at all man.

BTW: I know for a fact that many times you are negged it can't be because of what you have said. No joke. You are actually one of my fave posters and I just hope that folks start seeing your posts for what they are. Fun, funny, but insightful and frighteningly truthful (most of the time). You HAVE bobbled a few here and there, but I did notice that you never said we wouldn't be getting a WR but that Jenkins has value. I was going to ask when did you become a Jenkins fan, but then again I had changed my overall outlook as well.

Just wanted to take a moment and say that you are a better poster than your rep count would indicate and you are appreciated here.

Thanks bro. You are a fav of mine as well. I'm more of a Jenkins defender than a Jenkins fan. I've always found myself defending Falcons that get unjust criticism. Jenk Man, Dan Reeves, Fin, Vick, Brooking, Duckett, McClure, the list goes on. Still hate the rep system but I've come to accept the fact that it ain't goin nowhere. I just wish they would start showing who negs you.

I think both of these guys are in line for a lot bigger contracts in this FA market.

I believe the lockout actually hurts this year's FA crop because many teams have already addressed their primary needs in the draft. I look for teams on the cusp of a Superbowl (ala us) to be the most active in free agency this year. Some players may be willing to accept a shorter term deal in a good situation to increase their value as a free agent next year. (see Durant).

If we decide not to go after Ray Edwards, I think we should take a look at

Raheem Brock

http://www.nfl.com/players/raheembrock/profile?id=BRO044574

his stats are kind of distorted because he played a lot of DT in Indy

I also like Jordan Babineaux more than Considine

http://www.nfl.com/players/jordanbabineaux/profile?id=BAB720379

Jordan has played safety and corner in this league and he could consistently affect the outcome of

the game with his special teams play (more than Considine would, imho )
