Julio Jones is a # 2 wr

Recommended Posts

I keep reading about people calling JJ a number 2 WR.. they are right, but they are wrong also.

If you think about it JJ is only a "#2" because he plays for the Falcons. he wouldve been a #1 WR for half of the league.. ie Panters, saints , browns, redskins, bills, titans , jags, rams, chargers, Bucs, seahawks, bears, bengals, and Pats. there are even some possibilities of him being a #1 for some teams like, jets, and even the vikings, in the next 2 years.

how i see it is we gained a legit WR. lets call Roddy WR 1A and JJ 1B

I think JJ is better than AJ green. Numbers are very similar but if you look at it like this the Bulldogs Only had AJ. JJ played on a far better offense that didnt use him as much as the Bulldogs used AJ.

there is always a ying and a yang with drafting players people often look in hindsight about who we shouldve drafted. people will also say that hindsight is 20/20, ill say that hindsight is blind in the beginning and and potentially 20/20 in the end, but Foresight is 20/20 in the beginning and potentially blind in the end.

Stop looking and the fact that he dropped a lot of balls.. remember he was just an amateur football player, now he's a professional, from what ive read he is a very hard worker on and off the field, he is also very coach able.

AND TO HELP SILENCE THE CRITICS ABOUT HIM DROPPING THE BALL..... THERE IS A PLAYER ON OUR TEAM THAT HAD TROUBLE CATCHING THE FOOTBALL TOO, I WONT SAY ANY NAMES BUT IMO HE IS IN THE TOP 3 WR IN THE NFL TODAY. Thats one hellova player/coach to help with focusing on catching the rock...!!!

I think a lot of people forget that White had issues dropping until Ryan showed up. Maybe we have a QB that just throws very catchable balls for his wide outs; right velocity, right placement, right spin, right timing, right accuracy. If it worked for Roddy, I'm sure it will work out for Julio Jones.

Being a Alabama fan with no favorite NFL team, I was SO ready to become a Falcons fan after they drafted Julio Jones. After all, he is my favorite Bama player since Derrick Thomas. Yes, he's that good. Then I came on this forum and seen that 80% were doubting Julio's abilities or crying about the trade. Well thank you Saints for drafting Mark Ingram, cuz I'd rather be part of a fan-base full a coonasses then I would a fan-base full of crybabies and doubters. Some of you are cool, but ****. That's all.

Strange prerequisite for becoming an NFL fan. I have no doubts Jones is solid. He and Roddy will make your new found team New Orleans pull their hair out. Most people concern with the pick is what was given to acquire it. But after the Saints gave a #1 for Ingram I feel a lot better. We definitely for the better player.

Strange prerequisite? Not exactly. Like I said above, Julio Jones is my favorite player. Ever since the TD catch against Georgia during the 'Blackout' game, I've been saying that whoever drafts Julio will be my favorite team because they will have my favorite player.

I have no doubts Jones is solid. He and Roddy will make your new found team New Orleans pull their hair out.

I hope so. I really do.

Which brings me back to the 'doubters' subject. You got JULIO M*********IN JONES! This kid will make every player on your team work harder. Why can't y'all just trust the GM who got y'all to the playoffs 3 years in a row or something like that? It's ****in JULIO JONES man! Y'all just don't understand. Not only is he physically gifted, more-so than any other WR in the draft, but he also has an incredible work ethic that is also unmatched. Don't let me forget that he is one of the kindest people you will ever meet off-the-field. Oh, and his football IQ? Yup, you guessed it, dude knows his football.

And he doesn't drop as many passes as some of you think.. especially considering he had McElroy throwing the passes to him, er behind him. (McElroy even admitted on twitter that half of Julio's drops were because of bad throws)

Props to the OP for a good post by the way.

You'll be back here midseason when all the Saints fans are crying about how lucky we are and how our wins don't count.

I think the problem is that people are in shock that the Falcons gave up so much for one player, no matter who that player is. You have to understand the history of this franchise and what happened the last time we traded up to get a guy like this. We traded up (though not nearly as far as this) to get Michael Vick and he led this team through one of its lowest points in history. I was shocked to see them trade up so high to grab a WR. I like Jones. I remember 2 years ago most of the media felt he was better then Green, then after injury and a few dropped balls it seemed the media made Green their darling. I think both players are going to be great players in the NFL. I think Jones will be the better pro player because Green went to one of the three worst football organizations in the NFL. His career is essentially over already.

Anyone who thinks Jones is not a great player needs to go look back at his freshman season when he was healthy and before Alabama decided to run the ball as much as they have. McElroy was not exactly the best college QB either.

He ran a 4.39 at the combine with a broken bone in his foot. I like his work ethic. He reminds me of T.O., without the mental problems. Most of the people dumping on him are more mad at the organization than at him. I have come to respect the trade. It means this team believes they are a contender now. They believe they are going to win and win big. We aren't building for five years from now.

I understand completely where the original poster is coming from. I am a fan of U. C. Bearcats football and when one of my favorite players go to a team, I become a fan of that team as long as they aren't playing the falcons. Living in AL, he doesn't have a pro team. It makes sense to pick a team that your favorite player goes to.

Given the choice, I would choose the Falcons over the Saints. The Saints are a team in decline. Teams have figured out how to stop them now. They got beat by the worst team in the history of the NFL playoffs and got swept by the Bucks in the division. The Falcons are poised to be the dominate team in the South and the Bucks really are going to be better than the Saints. I see both teams making the playoffs. The Saints will be a middle of the pack team and once the Panthers have another good draft, the Saints will be in the bottom of the NFC South, though this division will be one of the best in the NFL.

The Falcons lost to the defending super bowl champs, the AFC champs, a hot Eagles team when Vick was peaking, and the current Super Bowl Champs. The one thing they lack on offense was home run hitters. We had the fewest plays for over 20 yards of any team I think. I have said since the beginning of last season that Jenkins was the weak link on offense. He didn't command any respect from the defense so they could focus all their attention on White. Jenkins did not have the ability to make them pay for doing that. I think if you do that this year, Jones is going to be a touchdown machine, because in one on one coverage he is strong enough to catch and break the tackle of most any DB in the NFL.

I for one, welcome Jones to the Falcons. I am excited to see what he can do.

And this is what bringing Julio in does for us. Not only makes us a better team but will bring in more fans nationally as we will have 2 marquee receivers. I'm all for more national fans. When do we get ESPN Atlanta? Falcons, Braves, Hawks all playoff teams. The thrashers barely missed the playoffs and looks like Tommy Glavine may be buying in. Dam*, even the Dream went to their respected championship series last year. What gives ESPN? hahaha.

Trust me, I'd much rather be a Falcons fan than a Saints fan. I love ATL. I love the hip-hop scene, I love the Braves, I love the GA dome. I just hate debbie downers. Please prove me wrong.

Lol, so you say a few posts that hurt your feelings about JJ and now you are going to be a Saints fan... Okkkkkk then.

The majority loves that JJ is a Falcon, including me. He is more than a great addition to this team.

No, I'm not going to be a Saints fan. I was just trying to make a point. I wouldn't have registered an account and posted if I didn't care. I just didn't feel like the majority of your fan-base supported Julio, considering what y'all gave up for him. I was hoping to be proved wrong. I think y'all got a steal even though it costs you some picks. The ones that don't agree will agree once Julio catches the ball, breaks an arm tackle from the CB and then stiff arms the Safety on his way to the endzone. You'll see. Julio is a beast and he was worth every bit of what the team had to give for him, and he will be happy to prove it to the doubters.

I agree 100% that he is a number one.....honestly I think he's a bigger and faster version of Roddy. He is a beast no doubt but I don't think he's better then AJ Green at all and I don't think the Falcons do either because before the trade went down they said the falcons were talking to the Bengals to get their spot but the Bengals backed out at the last moment. That tells you they wanted AJ but Julio will be a good one also!

One thing you will learn about this team's fan base is that they we have a bunch of haters. We won 13 games last year and were knocked out of the playoffs by the super bowl champs and you would have thought we were a 4 win team if you read this board. Don't worry about them. They just like to read their own posts. Welcome to the fan base. I am glad to have you as a new fan.

you also have to take into consideration that most of the time its the downers who are on here posting all the time, they just like to hear themselves speak, there are a few people on here that actually know what they are talking about...i think most of the falcons fan base is pretty excited about julio...just because they aren't on here posting it doesn't mean its not so...

And you believe that! Of course he says that with Julio sitting right next to him, who wouldn't! AJ and Marvin even said they had been talking all week but the Bengals decided they wanted AJ and didn't want to fall all the way back to the 27th pick. I mean I think Julio fits the Falcons better just because he's a great blocker....AJ is a OK blocker but Julio is a physical receiver who don't mind getting dirty!

I think there are allot like me, even though I loved the pick, there was some sticker shock that's wearing off quickly. If you had input from everyone on this site and not just the guys who post every little gripe you'd find out that the vast majority would not give JJ back if they could and they are excited as heck about the possibilities.

The AJ / JJ comparisons are dumb in my book. We would've taken either 1 so comparing them is useless but I'm personally happy we got JJ.

That is the worst thing that could have happened to Green. His pro career was over the moment Goodell said "Bengals". I live near Cincy and Mike Brown is one of the two worst owners in the league giving Al Davis a run for his money on the crazy scale.

I love Matt Ryan but people should stop giving him all the credit for Roddy's turnaround. Roddy had a pro bowl CALIBER season in 2007 with Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich. He turned himself around, Matt Ryan makes him even better than he already would be though because they have such a rapport.

Im sure TD feels just about what your feeling for this guy seeing that he gave that much up.

It was really a good match up though, Julio and ATL, because TD built the core of the Offense and Defense with his last three drafts, thus we didn't and won't need the extra picks to fill in depth, which is really all ATL needs to do.

If you really want to maintain your fan hood for this team and possibly keep it beyond JJ's career, I would suggest not frequenting this board all that much. I myself use it to find articles and other team related information. I hardly ever indulge others opinions or theories. I have been known to feed a troll or two but only because their ineptness and utter ignorance really got to me.

Don't let this fan base get to you. The Falcons are for real, more so then ever now.

Nope...it was the coaching staff pigtrino put together that got us some good wide receiver coaching. Roddy had his first 1000 yrd season with Joey and Redman throwing to him. It's not the ball...it was his hands lol. He was dropping bombs 40-50 yards down the field before that.
