Holmgren Laughing At The Trade

Recommended Posts

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/01/holmgren-calls-move-out-of-no-6-spot-kind-of-an-amazing-trade/

"The Atlanta Falcons wanted to move up in round one to get a big-play receiver. They tried to get to No. 4, so that they could add A.J. Green. The Bengals said, “No thanks.”

 So Julio wasn't the first choice. They really wanted Green.

Holmgren: “The trade was kind of an amazing trade when you count it up. Next year we’ve got a one and a four and it’s what we needed.”

Translation: Man I can't believe those idiots gave up that much for a #2 WR.

Is there a receiver currently in the NFL for whom a team would or should give up two first-round draft picks, a second-round pick, and two fourth-round draft picks? Maybe Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson.

Ummm, it's comical that anyone on here at this point can justify the nonsense of this move. After watching the anus pounding by the GB packers, Thomas "always trying and failing to be the smartest man in the room" Dimitroff thinks selling the farm for a #2 WR who has the dropsies is going to solve the atrocious defense and noodle-like soft mental QB.

He's done, this is one of the more laughable moves in NFL history. Yet some of you try and justify it. HILARIOUS

I don't agree with the move and if Julio Jones does not turn into the next Randy Moss than this is going to be a bad deal.

However, I really believe that this move will push Matt Ryan into that elite status. TD is basically forcing Matt Ryan to become the next Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.

I think that was the purpose of this.

I'll tell you who's TRULY laughing...

The fans of the team that won 13 games last season and had top seed in the NFC Playoffs who managed to go from a fairly pedestrian pick 27 all the way up to select top 5 talent to add to an already competitive roster.

Any pick past 20 is roster space; a player who can play. A pick in the top ten is a roster upgrade. We didn't merely want to add a bunch of players who would see the door at the end of training camp; we wanted a bona-fide starting NFL superstar Pro Bowl material. You really only get that by adding top ten talent.

I'll also tell you who should NOT be laughing...

Any team that did NOT make the playoffs OR land top ten talent. You didn't make the playoffs this year AND you didn't upgrade your roster. We did both. Their lack of committment to achieve is why the Succs will be fourth in the division this year.

And the Browns organization has nothing to laugh at; they've been bad so long they don't know what good is anymore.

So who's laughing now!!??:lol::lol: ... That's ME... laughing at YOU!! And I am laughing AT you, not WITH you!!

Noodle doesn't have the mentals or arm to become half of what those QB's are. And before some dingle comes in and throws stats noodle doesn't dictate the action during the game. He isn't a game-changer and never will be.

You can surround him with a PB roster and he will still toss 5 yrd hook routes.

Wow. Any QB who is 0-4 against "Noodle" must be a truly worthless piece of trash then.

You do know you don't have to be a Falcons supporter, follower or fan don't you? If its so horrible move on and let the people who are at least willing to see how it pans out enjoy the Team.

People are idiots. We made a move we saw fit to make. Who cares what everybody else thinks. At one point in time, it was sit a QB and don't throw them in right away. Now with Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez and Bradford, everybody is looking for the immediate impact out of the top QB. Point, NFL trends change like the weather.

I believe any great player is worth a high draft pick besides pure special teamers. You don't think Pouncy made very good center get some good publicity. Few seasons back OG's were getting paid crazy money.

The notion that a WR is never worth a high pick is BS. Like they say, if Julio is one of the best in the next 3 or 4 seasons nobody will care where he was picked. This is a two back league now, but Adrian Peterson, despite the fumbles is a beast and worth #7 if not higher.

Any pick past 20 is roster space.

Care to tell me where Roddy was picked?

Tom Brady?

Ray Rice?

Brandon Marshall?

Drew Brees?

Antonio Gates?

Vincent Jackson?

Clay Matthews?

So you're saying these players are simply roster space? You are completely ignorant to how important draft picks are. This FO pimps building through the draft then dumps everything for a high bust probability position and one that will touch the ball maybe 7 times a game.

still waiting...make a deal with you...tell me after the browns win a superbowl before we do. and madden does not count.

don't be so naive. holmgren has been trading on Brett Favre's Superbowl win for 15 years. he was a terrible GM in seattle and an average game day coach. he went to the superbowl in

seattle after he was forced to relinquish his GM duties and played in the Big Game with a team loaded with free agent signees that he did not have the power to sign off on. holmgren is so overrated it's laughable. although reported that he left on his own terms in Seattle, any man in that community will tell you that he was happily shown the door.

So if he turns into something just below Randy Moss, say Andre Johnson, that would be a bad deal?

If JJ turns into a legitimate #1 at some point in his career, it will be a good deal. If he takes pressure off Roddy White and allows us to become a more explosive offense, it is a good deal. If he doesn't become a good player, it is a bad deal.

Well, I'm not going to name a list of specific players that would be acceptable for him to develop into for this to be a good deal, but I assure you Andre Johnson would be on that list.

Now, unless he develops into a STUD receiver. I'm talking top 3-5 at his position at some duration of his career. If he fails to do that, I wouldn't consider this to be a good trade. We gave up a lot for a premier player. I'm not expecting that this season or even next season, but at some point he better turn into a superstar wide receiver, or this will go down as a stupid move by the Atlanta Falcons.
