Anyone Notice Dimitroff Doesn't Do Things the Patriot Way At All?

Recommended Posts

Often times you'll see posts where people claim "TD wouldn't do this because he will do things the Patriots way" or why he would do something like trade down. I think TD does things his way.

- He rarely traded down, if anything he shows habits to trade up (Baker, Franks, Jones, Jacquezz)

- He will go out and spend big money on free agents, when is the last time the Patriots did that?

- He will pay players on the team well that aren't the QB, would the Patriots have paid so much for Roddy? They let nearly every receiver or really good player go away if they want good money.

The thing is, there wouldn't be a "Patriots way" if they hadn't gotten lucky (yes, even they'll admit they got lucky) with Tom Brady. They have the luxury of manipulating the draft because they have one of the best quarterbacks of all time on their team. They would have to use those picks on upgrading specifics of their team if they had just an average quarterback.

Earlier on ESPN they were talking about the "Patriot Way" and they so causally mentioned that 8 of the players the Pats have drafted since 08 are on other teams like it was a positive., How is other teams reaping thier draft picks after only three years a good thing for the Patriots? Even Bruischi was like "wait what?"

pats got rings

i wish we could copy that

They weren't trading back every other pick when they were getting rings.

Trading back is great at times but the Pats missed out on needs in this draft even though they had the picks to full them.

I like doing thing the Falcons way.

Also the Pats made a big signing when they got Adalius Thomas a few years back.

I'm not totally sold on everything TD has done in the draft and some picks still need to pan out. I still like the fact that TD has imho tried to find his own way. I find it refreshing that TD is his own man right or wrong...can't knock him for that.

I've said for years that the Patriots are overrated when it comes to drafting.

They are, however, exceptional in free agency...and usually know when its time to cut a dude loose.

The Patriots didn't start really start stockpiling picks and doing all these draft day trades until after their 3rd Super Bowl win... and they haven't won one since.

While I personally think they haven't drafted that well at all since Dimitroff and Pioli left, Belicheck IS very adept at free agents and trades.

I think the "Patriot way" refers more to a winning atmosphere and mentality, though, and we definitely have developed that here in Atlanta over the past few seasons. You can see the same mentality starting to take root in Kansas City, as well (AKA New England West).
