Actually, it's a great move, and I'm shocked that Jim Riggleman of all people has the stones to do it.

How is it a great move with the amount of money he is getting paid? I know it is generally considered that the leadoff man only leads off once a game but that's not the case in the NL where a lot of times the pitcher usually makes the final out of an inning. So best case is Werth is batting with 1 guy on base most of the time instead of potentially batting with 2 or 3 guys on base more often.

1. Werth's salary has nothing to do with where he should hit in the line-up.

2. Werth is either the best or second-best hitter (Zimmerman) on the team.

3. Werth's OBP is likely to be better than anyone else's on the team, again with the possible exception of Zimmerman.

4. Of that entire line-up, only Werth, Zimmerman, and LaRoche seem to be definitely better than league replacement level.

With only three good hitters, it's crucial that they are bunched in the line-up, and that they get as many at-bats as possible. Hitting them 2/3/4 accomplishes that. Don't fall in the trap of thinking that somehow an RBI is more important than a Run Scored.

And flipping Werth with LaRoche wouldn't be a good move?

Andddddddddd it's officially Opening Day on the East Coast!!!!!!

Cannot wait to skip class tomorrow!

The beautiful marathon. Grueling and tedious at times. And yet so rewarding for those who stick with it, day after day. I’m not really even talking about the players getting paid big bucks to do this for a living, either.

I mean you all. And me. All of us in the booths, the pressboxes, the box seats and nosebleeds, in front of TVs or listening to radios. This is so much of what we’re about, isn’t it? For better or worse, and I sure like to think for better.

Nothing else compares. No other sport is even remotely similar to the epic nature of baseball. The thick, complex novel that is a baseball season. Sure, it can be enjoyed in bits and pieces, with a good series here or an exciting game there. But being there for every game, turning every page at the pace it was meant to be turned, that’s where baseball gives us the most satisfaction.

And that, of couse, is also why it’s fallen out of favor with a big segment of the population over the last few decades. Because these days, some don’t think it’s worth taking the time to appreciate and enjoy any leisure activity that moves at such a relatively slow pace for nine innings, much less for 162 games of nine innings apiece.

Then again, this isn’t really a leisure activity anyway, right? This is baseball, man. This is for the serious sports fan. The thinking sports fan.

It's just the way I am. This is something I rather get done now. Rather than having to wait until later. I'm getting 2 wisdom's pulled.

That's something I'd rather put off, probably until after the season is over! And, you probably won't be watching the rest of the game after your appointment, or if you do, you won't remember it b/c you'll be on meds.

blacksburg, va (vatech)

im definitely in the black out zone for the nationals and orioles, but i guess if its sold out then its not a problem.

I believe the Nats will be on MASN2 today, hope you get MASN.

Also hope this doesn't get rained out or delayed at all. Been on night shift the past 4 months so I just got home around 8am est and can't sleep because I've been looking forward to it since early October. Hate that I missed out on going to the game (pregnant wife is pretty sick and couldn't leave her home alone).
