12,241 posts in this topic

Guys this thread is for posting all UGA related articles and interesting facts for discussion.

Did any of you see the article today from Leather Helmet Blog concerning Maxpreps ranking players?

http://leatherhelmetblog.com/2011-articles/february/recruiting-update-09feb11.html

Had to tell you disagree about Ray Drew, but seemed to be good research.

Also, at the same blog, take a look at the video of William "the refrigerator" Perry it is quite sad.

Thank you Texas Dawg for starting this post. Gives us a place to put interesting things, breaking news, in one spot. Thanks again.

Texasdawg, thought this was interesting. Didn't know he had an interest:

http://footballrecruiting.247sports.com/Article/Rushel-Shell-has-six-on-top-early-14546

Also, thought it was interesting that Rusty mentioned that Gunner Kiel the QB out of Indiana was rumored to be interested in Georgia and will visit

I didn't think we had any interest in him. Maybe he just wants any offer to pad his offer list. I think we are set on the backs we want from this class (Jones, Marshall, & Drake)and then if we strike out with these guys then we will give out more offers. If that happens I see you giving then to instate guys.

Totally agree with you. Was surprised by this, and maybe it is to raise his profile and enjoy a trip.

TX do you think Mike Davis would get the offer if we miss on Jones or Drake?

from our guys it seems that Marshall, Jones and Drake are all but committed, but you and I both know that it will be hard to keep all 3 for another 12 months; I'm sure rival coaches will be all over them, telling them they won't see the field and crap like that

If we miss on any of our top guys I could see us offering him. The next best back in the state besides him is Kenno Loyal and I think he is a TN lean right now.I think with all the talent coming out of Stephenson each year UGA would be crazy not to offer IMO. That doesn't mean we will land him though. I would assume that Clemson is all over this kid as well for obvious reasons (James Davis).

I think Ray Drew is a great prospect so I don't want people to think I'm knocking him because I think he will be amazing but I will say I do believe because of the fact that he will be playing a new position in college (correct me if I'm wrong) he will be a bit of a project I thought LaDarius Owens would come in and play last year but because we took his hand off the ground we gave him an extra learning curve JMO

yeah I'm not sure why the idea of Drew being a project at OLB is such big deal. It's only natural to think he will be because he hasn't played the position before.

When he lines up at DE in a 4-man front then he'll be able to do his thing a little better at first, but it will take Drew awhile to get the hang of OLB. He won't be asked to do a whole lot right from the get-go, like Stripling last year when pretty much all he did was rush the passer

Drew will come in and get lots of playing time really early on, but I wouldn't expect too much stats-wise until he gets more comfortable

Agree with both of you. Good thing is we do line up about 60% of the time in a 43, when in the 34 might see some learning curve.

Overall thought the article premise was good.

I see more great news on Bobo:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=6104801

and some rather bad news for bobo

http://footballrecruiting.247sports.com/Article/247Sports-names-Alabamas-Sal-Sunseri-its-recruiter-of-the-year-14621

Also for folks like me that are concerned about oversigning....alive and well at South Carolina (loved the last paragraph of this one)

This oversigning crap has to stop. I'm glad our coach does not participate in this practice, I would want our coach fired if he ever resorted to this nonsense, I don't care how many NC's he wins. These kids are human beings, I would personally drive to Columbia and kick Spurrier in the nuts if he did this to my boy.

I know we're all proud of playing in the SEC and how tough our conference is all around. Our league at the same time has some real dirty programs, there's no hiding that. I'm a proud UGA man but not really a proud SEC man.

That Maxprep author must be high as kite because CK Uzomah was labelled as an early producer. This is a joke as Ray's position in high school is different enough than the OLB/DE in college that its impossible to tell. If he is quick enough and learns coverages, he'll be a BEAST. That could happen over a few months or not till next year.

Yeah one of those articles that can make you scratch your head.

Thought this was a very good evaluation of our class:

Felt this was worth posting. The SEC schedules for next season courtesy of Get the Picture:

http://blutarsky.wordpress.com/2011/02/10/an-early-look-at-the-secs-2011-schedules/

Tough schedule in the SEC for UF....ah too bad.

Look at SC schedule and tell me that game with GA won't be huge for them and of course us.

Also thought Senator Blutarksky, hit the nail on the head with the 3rd down situation at UGA

wow that's a REALLY tough schedule for UF

I like our schedule a lot, especially because the Boise game sets the tone for the whole offseason and we don't have to leave the state and then turn around and play SC at home

The bye before UF is nice, hopefully it pays off this time

Swapping Arky and Ole Miss is nice, since Miss is in shambles right now

2011 is a great schedule, a great opportunity, for us to come back with a vengeance

Glad you read it. I am an avid reader and will post things all the time, just glad someone enjoys reading like me.

That game with South Carolina is going to be HUGE. Don't you agree?

absolutely, if we can come away 2-0 I think this team will really start to believe something special can happen

even if we come out of those games 1-1, with the loss being to boise, we could really have a great season and end up in Atl which would be awesome because I'd assume that would save CMR from all this hotseat talk

I think McGarity did a great thing by puting Boise on the schedule in the state so that we can focus on those first two games all offseason

IMHO I never thought we would look at USCe as our most critical game in our schedule. I agree that they are this year. Just sayin I never thought it would happen. If we do nothing else this year, I wanna see a seismic beatdown on the gaturds.

I would love to beat UF this year and it should happen, especially with a buy week and the transition on all fronts that they are going through

you're right that USCe is our biggest game, and even though UF is the win we all want more, the trip to Atlanta goes through SC

The reign of the Gators, looks to be officially in trouble. With that schedule, I guess we know now why Urban Meyer decided it was time to retire.
