Not the best at evaluating were guys can play other than were they are. But if we draft a L.O.T. someone we are high on whether we move up or not, were do we put Sam Baker. Some say he cant play R.T. or guard and would be just a back up, Just curious to what would happen and were would Sam Baker play if we had a new L.O.T.? Is he worth anything if we traded him maybe for a higher 1st for him and our 1st, or maybe if were lucky him and our 2nd round pick. Just he is not our future L.O.T. if we value Matt Ryan as our Q.B. Sam Baker is a liability.

Sam Baker will be out LT next season. I feel like he is just taking a longer time than we'd like to develop. I was furious w/ the guy for parts 08 & 09, and he was even struggling mightily at times early this past season. However, as the season went on, he seemed to be making far fewer mistakes. Roddy wasn't looking so great after his first few seasons, but he's turned into one of the best in the NFL at his position. Let's just hope the same is the case with Baker.

Now, about your hypothetical situation... are you assuming we don't bring back Clabo to play RT? Or that a guy like Reynolds won't fll a spot at RT? I doubt Baker has a ton of trade value, so I don't see how trading him would be a realistic & worthwhile option for us. Now, if we did bring in a superior LT, I would have to think we'd let go of the weakest link on the o-line (probably Dahl), and have Clabo swing in there (RG), while Baker played RT.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase! $hit this is annoying! Our OLine is in no way a revolving door. Yes Baker has his bad moments but cmon, give the boy a chance. It was one game! We had one of the best olines in the NFL this year. This team will grow. Baker is a baller, just be patient. Has Ryan spent most of the year on his back? Baker is better than what most people on these boards give him credit for! Why is HD averaging one catch a game? Why did Green Bays punter sit on the sideline the entire game? Why can't Turner catch a ball? Why is our kick returner all of a sudden our most potent offensive weapon. Leave Baker alone, there's more to this than an LT

He's been bad all season and doesn't have the lateral movement to be a great LT. He's perfectly suited for RT though. Move Clabo to RG (where he's played very well before) and draft Derrick Sherrod or Joseph Barksdale...

Why is everyone so keen to give Jamaal Anderson the benefit of the doubt, but Baker is straight out garbage? If Baker was so bad this year why is he still starting? Sorry but I'm of the belief that if something ain't broke don't fix it. I just remember al the Dahl hate a couple of years ago. Give the kid a chance. Why give Roddy, Douglas, Ryan, Turner the benefit of the doubt but screw Baker? I just dont want to let him walk and see him terrorize us for years on another team when he reaches his potential!

To your JA98 question: I am not among those.

As to why Baker was still starting: We didn't have a better option

The o-line isn't as good as it appears to be. It's close but not quite there...

Baker played every offensive snap this year! Every game he is almost always responsible for the other team's best defensive athlete. Matt Ryan has great passing lanes and is one of the least sacked QBs in the league. The Left Side (Baker and Blaylock) had more rushing 1st downs and TDs than any other team in the NFC. Baker had a tough start (apparently because of a knee injury) because Coach Smith said "when he is healthy Baker plays the position as well as anyone in this league". He gave up four sacks in the last ten games for a total of 11. Matt Light of the Patriots made the Pro Bowl after giving up 10 this year. He has great assignment repsonsibility, is respected by his teammates and also gets less help in Mularkey's system than most other tackles in the game. He's started three years and it takes a lot of OLmen longer than that to fully develop their potential. Baker continues to make progress every year!

The Falcons offensive line, including Baker, is the single greatest investment return on this team and is one of the least expensive in the league. They get more return on their dollar than anywhere else.

There are many greater needs on the Falcons than LT, not the least of which are re-signing or replacing the three other offensive linemen who are free agents (Blaylock, Dahl & Clabo) or finding a successor to a center (McClure) that has served for 11 years.

Camiri from Wisconsin will do. Lets stop BSing people. Best team over the last 10 years or what ever it may be has to be the Steelers. The Steelers seem like every year they are in the super bowl. They have a huge physical offensive line. It is time for the Falcons to start bringing in guys that fit that mold. A big presence that will dominate defenders and ware them down. Sam Baker is not the guy we need. Its unfortunate because Jeff Otah was probably our target in the 08 draft but the Panthers moved up and got him. We were left with the next best thing in the draft and that was Baker. I really wish Clady would of dropped in that class so we wouldn't have to be talking about this.

Bro, Carimi is not even considered a LT on the next level, he projects to be a Clabo clone, a mauling second level RT ....his lateral quikness is nowhere near as good as Baker ........there will be no franchise LT's on the board when we pick .......

Of all the LTs in the league, Baker has given up the 3rd most sacks. He's also given up the 14th most hits and 7th most pressures. Not franchise quality.

You'll have to pay for the stats though otherwise take my word for it. He's also given up 8 penalties on the year.

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2010/12/29/re-focused-week-16-saints-at-falcons/

In week 16, they mentioned he's given up 9 sacks, 7 hits and 31 pressures.

Outside of Nola(He gave up 2 there) Most of the ones he gave up came earlier in the season, he improved as the season went on.

Carimi vs a first round D-end who was dominate against the Razorbacks in his bowl game.
