How hard would it be to switch to hybrid defense

Do we have the personal to do this. I would make us harder to prepare for. And who knows Jamal Anderson might come unleashed. I mean for us to run a 3-4 on certain downs what players do we need or do we have the personale to do it all ready. Just no one on caching staff is familiar with those formations. I think a 4-3 defense has its strong points and weakness's just like a 3-4. But to be a hybrid defense would make us real hard to prepare for if we could do it effectively.

It takes teams years to translate from a 4-3 to 3-4. Then to try and produce a hybrid D and teahc rookies how to play both schemes is incredibly difficult. The 3-4 is a very advanced scheme. Unlike the 4-3 where its almost always the defensive line rushing the 3-4 has any of the front 7 rushing at one time. Few teams have been able to create a hybrid in NFL history. If the Falcons were to do so they would need to get a nose tackle, two rush linebackers, probably move both Babs and Jerry to defensive ends, move Weatherspoon to inside backer, and get rid of Abe and Bierman. Thats a lot of work. IMO stick with the 4-3.

Yeah, if thats what it would take then I agree too much work. Then even if we did switch to a hybrid, still might not be as effective as we are in the 4-3.

I wouldn't be against, say, a pass rushing 3-4. We already rush 3 more often against the Saints. Play Babs, Peters, and Jerry as our 3 down linemen and stand Bierman and Abe up. Put Lofton and Spoon in the middle.

But for strictly pass rushing situations

Yeah thats what I meant as far as hybrid. Just use it on pass rushing situations. Do you think Jamal Anderson since many saying he is better suited for a 3-4 defense would be able to make some noise in that package? Just he (JA98) is young and I do not wanna give up on him. He is only 24 yrs old with 4 going on 5 years under his belt. How can we use him more effectively. Or has he just peaked at were he is?

JA98 is going to get better. It is hard to play this game at 24 years old. But I left him out because he isn't a pass rush specialist. He would be better in this instance but the 3 DT's are better rushing than he is.

I know he is good in stopping the rush. He really just seems like we the Falcon's would do better by Jamal and letting him go to a 3-4 team and at least see how he works out. Do you think he is a better nose tackle in the 4-3 are better suited and might excel in the 4-4? Just if he would, we need to try and find a true DT for backup as well as a true LDE or a true LDE backup. If he can do this we should try to trade him or something of a package deal to help obtain someone more well suited for our scheme.

I think we run an occasional 3-4 concept with 4-3 personnel. The Falcons like to drop Abraham into coverage and send a linebacker, and I remember after the '08 season Mike Smith made comments about introducing 3-4 concepts to our defense.

You don't necessarily have to be lined up as a 3-4 defense to have at least a semblance of those concepts present in your gameplan.

This team has an entire stable of DTs that are too slow to play DE in a 3-4, and too small to play nose tackle in a 3-4.

So no, I don't like the idea too much.

Besides that, we don't have the LB personnel for it either.

The personnel on this team is suited for a 4-3. I think they would be a disaster in a 3-4.

we could make 3-4 scheme. JA98 is used it to it, biermann can take on tow players, peters even looks like he could as well. TD comes from the pats who do this. think of the training camp with the pats, so players got to see it, they have tried a couple of plays.

one major thing that is holding us back on doing this is abraham. he refused to saty with the jets when they swapped over. but abraham is not going to be here much longer, and once he is gone I can see us starting more and more 3-4's. one other note is haynesworth, he could help this be more possible. but we may have seen we did not want this guy.

I see us being hybrid for a couple mmore years unti abraham is gone, or we will go full hybrid so we can draft the best of 3-4 or 4-3 (who ever is available)

Pretend for a minute that we pick up some monster to the likes of a Shaun Rogers,

Pull Abe off the line and set your LB Positions

Spoon, Abe, Lofton, Biermann, everybody else is rotational.

Or

Spoon Lofton Bier Abe.

Any thoughts on this?
