FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is one of the five players nominated for the Fan’s Choice “Emerging Player” award. It will be given out at the first annual PULSE Awards, sponsored by the NFL Players, the licensing arm of the NFLPA.

Ryan is probably hoping that he will not be able to attend The PULSE Awards as they will be held in Dallas on Feb. 3 at the Hyatt Regeny, a few days before Super Bowl 45.

The awards show is designed to honor excellence on and off the field. It will be hosted by CBS Sports’ James Brown (Aside: In college I kept stats for J.B. and Phil Chenier, back when they were doing games on BET. Before he went BIGTIME!), along with celebrity co-host Jay Mohr.

NFL fans will decide the winners of three coveted awards: “Emerging Player,” “Comeback Player” and “Heart of the Game.” Fans can vote online at www.pulseawards.com up to five times per day now through Friday, Dec. 24, 2010.

Registered voters will also be entered to win prizes including a trip to Dallas to attend the PULSE Awards, have the opportunity to participate in the award presentation, as well as backstage access and autographed memorabilia.

Others nominated for the “Emerging Player” award include St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford, Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews, Philadelphia wide receiver DeSean Jackson and Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman.

The award recognizes a player who has demonstrated a combination of great performance, character and maturity on and off the field, which has distinguished him a rising star of the next generation of football greats.

Make sure you vote for Matt Ryan
