Georgia’s disappointing regular season has ended, leading to questions about staff changes, early departures and other important matters. So of course the most common question for the mailbag I got this week dealt with Samuel L. Jackson.

That heartens me, actually. There was a lot of curiosity as to why Jules Winnfield was on the sideline, wearing a Georgia shirt and hat. So I checked with UGA associate A.D. Arthur Johnson, who hung a bit with Jackson at the game. Here's the skinny:

Jackson has a nephew and some cousins who went to Georgia. One of his cousins is on the law school's alumni board. Jackson himself attended Morehouse College in Atlanta.

"He's a Georgia fan," Johnson said.

Jackson visited before the game with head coach Mark Richt, spent some time at the law school with his cousin, then went through the pregame Dawg Walk.

One things Jackson didn't do was give the pregame speech, as was rumored. Which is too bad, because it probably would’ve gone something like this.

But what else might he have done at the game? I looked up Jackson’s bio on IMDB.com and saw that he’s in a movie called: “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and thought he might be speaking with Zander Ogletree.

It also appears that Sam is appearing in three movies with revenge as a theme: “The Avengers”, “Vengeance: A Love Story” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” So maybe he was going to sit down with Aaron Murray and discuss Nick Fairley.

Jackson is such a cool actor, I can almost forgive his work in the new Star Wars movies. The sad thing is that a lot of youngsters out there might know him mainly for a bad movie - “Snakes on a Plane” – and the very famous line that I can’t quote on a family blog.

No, what you need to know Jackson for is Jules Winnfield, quoting the Bible verse before shooting the hell out of people, discussing a Royale with cheese, and a wallet that reads … wait, I can’t write that either.

I'm holding out hope he is researching a role in that attire.

He77 I'm holding out hope that he's gonna be forced into the starting qb spot because AM pursues a career in porn, and the incoming kid Christian LeMay decides to chase the Monopoly world championship instead of going to school.

Either way, my guy can whip their guy. B)

You really don't know who that is? :o

Dayum, I'm just getting too old to even be relevant anymore.

I'm 31 and he made me feel old too. Remember the "3 Champs and a Baby" from In Living Color - w/ the Wayans playing Tyson, Sugar Ray, and Ali?

You can explain it to him like this: Sugar Ray Leonard was the original Floyd Mayweather.

Agree about the Mayweather part, with the exception(s) of:

1) Sugar Ray was NEVER the prick that I think Floyd is.

2) Sugar Ray was more dedicated to knocking his guy out if he had a chance to, Floyd seems unwilling to even risk it a little bit in order to get his guy out of there.

The rest below is to anyone who has no knowledge of who Sugar Ray Leonard is.

In his time Sugar Ray was sometimes criticized by certain boxing fans because he did focus on defense and moving around the ring to get his best angle of attack and frustrate his opponent. On occassions he would showboat a bit, but not quite to the degree you see some fighters do it today. However, when Sugar Ray Leonard decided to attack someone, he could hit hard, and he threw punch's in bunch's. One of the best left hook knock outs I've ever seen was when he fought Davey Boy Green and knocked him out cold. Just talking about Leonard had me going to youtube to watch some of his videos. If you like boxing, you ought to check out some of his highlight vids on there. Eventhough he had good defense and used it to his advantage, when Ray Leonard decided it was time to FIGHT, he could just beat the he77 out of people.

My all-time favorite fighters would be Ali, Evander Holyfield, and Sugar Ray Leonard.

Ya sorry guys didnt wanna make yall feel old.. First im not a boxing fan by any means, and I never really saw him fight so I just had no idea who he was

No problem Ronaldo. It's just the nature of life when the things that stood out to you as a kid and young man aren't known about at all by other, younger people as you grow old. Eventually, it happens to all of us...... if we're lucky.

I get accused of pop culture thread jackin sometimes, but since we've veered so far off course already I gotta ask - do y'all feel like Pac Man would take Mayweather? Boxing could really use that fight. I miss boxing being relevant, and there's just something that I can't put my finger on that I don't really like about MMA.
