Dem Birds
I don't think anyone here is really worried about Grimes. He gave up some plays against Baltimore, made some against Baltimore. This article is probably basing it off of that game alone.
Ice2White
I feel like to even have a discussion about this guy's play as if he hasn't been great this season is just wrong. Grimes has been really, really good this year. If team's are targeting him, it's not necessarily because his play makes them want to throw to him. They simply don't want to throw to Robinson and they think they can beat him because of his size. He was great against Baltimore. He shut down Boldin for a while before he ever started making plays, which is just bound to happen with that guy. Our corner backs are very good right now. Ice2White
And if you're looking at the yards we give up in the passing game and you think it's impossible to say our corners have played great, you're not recognizing the gameplan our defense takes. Once we get a lead, we play soft and teams take advantage of it. They rack up a ton of yards because this "bend but don't break" thing is in actual strategy and not something that should only be used to describe defenses that lack the talent to shut a team down. We take an early lead pretty often, and teams start passing on us to catch up. That's why our run defense is so good. We actually give up a ton of yards per carry, but the total yards stay low because teams are playing catch up and we're allowing them to have short and intermediate passes because A) it keeps them from scoring quickly so they chew up a lot of the clock while they're trying to come back and B ) it stops teams from scoring on big plays in order to give us a chance to stop them when the field gets shorter. Our defense is eighth in the NFL in points per game. The yards are mostly a product of the way Smith and Van Gorder are running the defense. since68andcounting
First of all, our pass defense was VERY solid until Spoon and then Dunta went out. It's a little better with Dunta back. But spoon is a difference maker.Second of all, I hope teams DO target Mighty Mouse. Cause #20 will take the ball away sooner or later. nobkowski
that's why i hate stats. teams have to pass on us cause we take away the run, and a HUGE chunk of yards have come from the last few games where teams were getting a lot of garbage yards.I wouldn't say they were exactly garbage yards when we are actually giving up the lead and having to make a big come back to win.As others are saying, hopefully Spoon can get back up to speed to slow them down. Threepac Daddy
when bvg call safe zone plays grimes gets bet. when he play calls him to be in tight coverage he goes into lock down mode.
JTRaines92
Lol at the idiot who wrote this article. Grimes had two bad games and they write this. The media is quick to jump on someone when they're down but when he was playing his best this season no one was giving him any love. I hope Grimes plays a record setting game on Sunday just to shut the stupid media up.
maxatlanta
Why so much homerism in some of these replies? Grimes has clearly been targeted/picked on by opposing offenses. We do give up a large chunk of passing yards due to getting leads and playing a lot of soft coverage. But if you break down which cbs are giving up those yards, it's Grimes and Owens. Dunta gave up one big play and one TD so far this year(on the same play, vs TB). That means a lot of yards and scoring have been done vs the other cbs. Grimes deserves credit for his INTs and I think the author, and Smitty, were pretty fair with their assessment. john_winger
I saw some really good ball hawking skills early on when he was getting his hands on the ball and knocking it down. I knew it was only a matter of time before he started coming down with it, and I was right.Of course teams are going to target him when he is covering their top receiver like Boldin. And then they will stop after he takes it away.
vafalconfan
Grimes ia actually playing good ball right now,.. as long as opposing QBs have time to stand back there and survey the field (see eagles game) our pass D will always suffer. maxatlanta
If anything, Grimes had good coverage on every play that he was beaten.I think this is where people really are missing the point. It isn't about whether the cb is right there in "good coverage." The same could be said for Chris Houston. Grimes size puts him at a disadvantage and makes it easier for teams to complete passes against him. He is going to get beaten more often than other cbs when they have "good coverage." What counts is the result of the play. None of this is controversial or opinion, just the facts. I like Grimes. I want him starting and hope we resign him. Just be realistic about the fact that he is going to get picked on at times, but he makes enough big plays(not just INTs) to be a valuable starter. And his tackling has really improved, though there's room to grow further.
Mid-Nite-Toker
Quarterbacks setting sights on Falcons CB GrimesThey must think Grimes is cute or something and trying to get a date.QBs targeting Grimes will be severley punished...ask Breesy. Robinit
If you look at this guys statistical rankings and take them for what they are, Grimes ranks higher than every corner we have.

Falconcheff
I've loved Grimes since he was first picked up by us...low profile player form a D2 school that has the potential to be an incredible player, and he's capitalizing. On the scale of Falconliness, this guy is a 10/10.Yep! To this point, I think a lot of fans don't realize that Grimey has been a Falcon his entire career; first as a Falcons allocated player in NFL Europe (where he intercepted a pass in the World Bowl to seal a championship for his Hamburg Sea Devils... the last ever World Bowl Champions), now as our #2, shut-down cb.Even in NFL Europe, that guy caught my eye. Tazz77
They have only been looking his way the last two games. That being said his play is still descent but a little RISE UP is in order.
mrs falcon
At least they are learning his name"The former Oklahoma standout has not thrown an interception over his last four games, while passing for over 750 yards and six scores. He is even better at home, posting a 3-1 record at the Edward James Dome. And the kid does his homework. Unlike in past weeks when veteran QBs have dismissed CB Brent Grimes as the “short guy,” Bradford knew Grimes by name."http://blogblitz.nfl.com/atlanta-falcons/entry/week_11_preview_falcons_vs

Robinit
This is very interesting too. Weighted stats---for instance 5 yards on a 3rd and 4 holds more weight than 5 on a 1st down. Also quality of opponent factors inhttp://www.footballoutsiders.com/info/methods Edited November 21, 2010 by Robinit

mashedpotato
The crazy thing was I saw an article talking about him being the best corner in the NFC South. It was based on yards per target or something like that and he was second in the league at like 4 yards a target behind only Darell Revis. I was thinking "Man, this guy is having a great year". Ever since then they have been picking on him all day and winning. I've got confidence in him but it is fading for sure. He better turn it up because last year I thought Williams was pretty good before he got hurt.
