atljbo
linkQuarterbacks setting sights on Falcons CB GrimesQuarterbacks are targeting Brent Grimes this season, and the Falcons' third-year corner will likely see plenty of action the rest of the way as teams look to avoid throwing the ball toward Dunta Robinson. Receivers have won a good share of battles against Grimes, who lacks great size, but he's also capable of making a big play if a quarterback forces a pass in his direction. He has three interceptions, including two in the last two games, and led the team with six picks last season. Atlanta has other players with starting experience at corner, but head coach Mike Smith has said that Grimes is playing well and there are no indications that his job is in any danger. It was expected that Robinson's arrival in the offseason would boost the Falcons' pass defense. It's giving up a lot of yards and touchdowns, though, and still appears to be one of the team's weaknesses.
BackForThe2ndTime
If I remember right when Robinson was out it was much worse.
Karst41
Perfect !But Dollars to doughnuts says this article was based on every team outside of the NFC South
kirbyr
We're near the top in interceptions and turnover differential.
The Don™
Grimes was playing pretty much lights out in weeks 1 through 7....He's been struggling as of late(TB and Balt)...I think he's gonna be just fine...
Falcon2
Grimes has gave up some Huge plays, but if we could capitalize on more of his pics it would look a whole lot better. No matter what people say nobody has taken his spot away from him. raysnill1
not his fault though. if we get away from playing soft zone in the second half we can shut teams down.
Robinit
Even in the TD's that he gave up, he was in very good position. He always seems to be in position to make a play, if you ask me. I remember a diving TD against Philly where he was on the guys back and wrapped around him completely, but it was just an amazing play. The latest one, he timed his jump slightly off. Grimes is really only in his third year out of a small school. This guys potential is very high. If we were to start someone else, I would really be diappointed
jamescbr
Grimes was playing pretty much lights out in weeks 1 through 7....He's been struggling as of late(TB and Balt)...I think he's gonna be just fine...against tampa, he was mostly playing on Mike Williams I believe, and he is a pretty big strong receiver, and we all know the kind if beast that Anquan Boldin is....not many corners in the league can completely shut him down, and the softer zone in the 2nd half of both those games didn't help anything.I am very happy with Grimes play this season Edited November 20, 2010 by jamescbr
phattywankenobi
That's the love/hate relationship with Grimes. He'll give up a big play here or there but if the QB starts favoring his side too much Grimes will pick one off.
nobkowski
according to Football Outsiders Innovative Stats. we aren't much better at pass defense this year.2009 - 272010 - 24Plus, the way we have been going the last few games, we are about the same on defensive 3rd downs. We really need to get better in these two areas to make a good play off run.GOOOOOOO FALCONS !!!!!!!!!!!! paulitik
I love Brent Grimes, I love his effort, his work ethic, his athleticism. The kid has it all, except size. I'm not saying to get rid of him. I honestly want to see him get an extension. But as long as he is a starting CB, OCs are going to target him as a chink in our armor. The guy just doesn't have the size to handle big physical receivers. You guys are right, he had near perfect coverage on Boldin, and Boldin still got the TD. Grimey is a high risk, high reward player.
Dr. Billings
Can you say Robinson - Williams starting Week 12?

phattywankenobi
When Spoon gets back up to speed the coverage will improve a lot. He took care of the middle very well and let the CB's concentrate on the sidelines.

JasonLaCanfora
Can you say Robinson - Williams starting Week 12?Are you crazy Grimes is a beast he does one of the best things a corner can do .... he does not beat himself he makes it so the QB has to make a perfect pass to complete it on him
Robinit
Can you say Robinson - Williams starting Week 12?Without a doubt......NO. Williams is good in the red-zone and in in blitzing situations, but doesn't have the legs to run with the young guys all day! He's serviceable in the way we use him. I feel like teams know he's a threat to blitz now to though in certain packages now; they are starting to sniff him out. Dedsquirl
Grimes reminds me of Terrell Buckley. He is a big play waiting to happen. One way or the other.I like Grimes. I just hate that when I say that, I feel like I am owning up to something embarrassing.
The Iron Lotus
I've loved Grimes since he was first picked up by us...low profile player form a D2 school that has the potential to be an incredible player, and he's capitalizing. On the scale of Falconliness, this guy is a 10/10.
Quiksilverly
Grimes is a beast in zone! Man coverage he's good with help over the top on his side, but not alone.

hawkeye
I would rather see Owens in press or either Franks next year. Once Franks learns our system andgets better with his technique, watch out.
