Quarterbacks setting sights on Falcons CB Grimes

Quarterbacks are targeting Brent Grimes this season, and the Falcons' third-year corner will likely see plenty of action the rest of the way as teams look to avoid throwing the ball toward Dunta Robinson. Receivers have won a good share of battles against Grimes, who lacks great size, but he's also capable of making a big play if a quarterback forces a pass in his direction. He has three interceptions, including two in the last two games, and led the team with six picks last season. Atlanta has other players with starting experience at corner, but head coach Mike Smith has said that Grimes is playing well and there are no indications that his job is in any danger. It was expected that Robinson's arrival in the offseason would boost the Falcons' pass defense. It's giving up a lot of yards and touchdowns, though, and still appears to be one of the team's weaknesses.

Even in the TD's that he gave up, he was in very good position. He always seems to be in position to make a play, if you ask me. I remember a diving TD against Philly where he was on the guys back and wrapped around him completely, but it was just an amazing play. The latest one, he timed his jump slightly off. Grimes is really only in his third year out of a small school. This guys potential is very high. If we were to start someone else, I would really be diappointed

Grimes was playing pretty much lights out in weeks 1 through 7....He's been struggling as of late(TB and Balt)...I think he's gonna be just fine...

against tampa, he was mostly playing on Mike Williams I believe, and he is a pretty big strong receiver, and we all know the kind if beast that Anquan Boldin is....not many corners in the league can completely shut him down, and the softer zone in the 2nd half of both those games didn't help anything.

I am very happy with Grimes play this season

according to Football Outsiders Innovative Stats. we aren't much better at pass defense this year.

2009 - 27

2010 - 24

Plus, the way we have been going the last few games, we are about the same on defensive 3rd downs.

We really need to get better in these two areas to make a good play off run.

GOOOOOOO FALCONS !!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Brent Grimes, I love his effort, his work ethic, his athleticism. The kid has it all, except size. I'm not saying to get rid of him. I honestly want to see him get an extension. But as long as he is a starting CB, OCs are going to target him as a chink in our armor. The guy just doesn't have the size to handle big physical receivers. You guys are right, he had near perfect coverage on Boldin, and Boldin still got the TD. Grimey is a high risk, high reward player.

that's why i hate stats. teams have to pass on us cause we take away the run, and a HUGE chunk of yards have come from the last few games where teams were getting a lot of garbage yards.

Can you say Robinson - Williams starting Week 12?

Without a doubt......NO. Williams is good in the red-zone and in in blitzing situations, but doesn't have the legs to run with the young guys all day! He's serviceable in the way we use him. I feel like teams know he's a threat to blitz now to though in certain packages now; they are starting to sniff him out.
