ChuyDawg
I came accross this article from Gentry Estes at 24/7. Does anybody have anything on this.Bobby Burton of 247Sports.com this afternoon posted a tidbit on our Texas site that according to multiple reputable sources out of Austin, the University of Texas had been contacted by a person representing Georgia's interests regarding the services of defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. (Post is linked below) On this end, UGA athletics director Greg McGarity firmly denied that report when reached this evening. "We have a football coach," McGarity said. "Mark Richt is our football coach." Muschamp, 39, is currently the coach-in-waiting at Texas for Mack Brown. Originally from Rome, Ga., Muschamp played at Georgia from 1991-94 before beginning a successful coaching career that included five years as an assistant for Nick Saban. Though Richt has come under fire during Georgia's 5-6 season, McGarity spoke strongly in Richt's favor prior to Saturday's game at Auburn (See our earlier report). Asked if he expected Richt back next season at UGA, McGarity replied, “Sure I do. Absolutely.” McGarity said tonight he still stands by that statement. "My comments are the same after the game as they were before the game," McGarity said. But could Richt choose to leave Georgia? The Denver Post reported Saturday that Colorado was interested in Richt for its head coaching vacancy and that the UGA coach might be interested in a "change of scenery" given the current climate in Athens. Richt also is thought to desire an extension on his contract, which is currently set to expire in 2013. McGarity said tonight that he has not been contacted by Colorado to ask permission to speak to Richt, who is contractually obligated to pass along contact from other potential employers to McGarity or UGA school president Michael Adams. "No, not a phone call, not anything," McGarity said. "I just don't think there's anything to that."
GAbred
Texas doesn't look all that great this year either. And their defense doesn't impress. So getting Muschamp would not be the best move. I love Richt, but like many I am tired of the last few seasons and the sick feelings. If we were to replace him, only a few guys out there I see as better options. Harbaugh at Stanford would be my first choice. Patterson probably 2nd.
kicker_jesus
Yes, their is nothing to this report...this is Will Muschamp's camp getting his name out their and making sure that the fans in Texas still know that he is a hot name in coaching circles...especially since his defense has been so horrible this year. I hate it when reporters do favors for coaches that they like and have a relationship with and put out crap stories like this...it makes Will look good but it has an adverse affect on our recruiting class.
