NFC South Watch: One Falcons Player Rising

Honestly does it even matter? This is how all of the garbage about people loving or hating Vick and Roddy got started a while ago. People can dislike how a player is playing and not HATE the player.

aero you and i both know that people on this board jumped on the "hate" mj12 bandwagon when he went down during friday night lights. People said hd83 will take his job because their were judging him on his past play, but now that mj12 is doin his thang out there, people act like the hatewagon never exsisted.

I still think Douglas will come around to be a good slot. The only problem is that slot is supposed to be a position of good hands and good speed. He only had one of those at this point.

I could live with MJ12 as the number 2, but I would love to see us get a new number 2 that would give us a great 1-2 receiving tandem.

I think Finn is the one that's expendable at this point...moreso than Jenkins. I'm not sure what else jenkins can do at this point to make a case for himself. Let's not forget that the young Kerry Meier had shown flashes before going on IR as well. He was going to get some burn this year. Can he play the slot too, or is he not quite fast enough? He won't drop the ball that's for sure.

And please let's get HD83 on some returns...PLEASE!!!

Jenkins has been very good since his return and his presence has made a big impact as well. As for Harry, I still think he's got a very bright future and he will contribute more as the season goes on. I think it would be great if MM can get some plays in for HD in the first quarter to get him the ball and let him gain some confidence. One good game for HD will boost his confidence and hat can go a long way for our O.

One good game where HD catches 4 to 5 passes for significant yardage should do wonders for his psyche. I think it's more a mind thing than a knee thing with Douglas at this point.

no, actually u said boldin and fitz didnt work out because of their defense...i corrected you and said it did work out because obviously they went to a superbowl together. Had nothing to do with the defense. Boldin felt he could be a #1 somewhere else, and wanted a long term contract. Please get your facts straight before you want to go back and forth with me. and i keep bringing T.O in this because him and chad are a 1-2 punch that you seem to want us to have. Not the players, but the talent. And i said, look how that is working out now..Do you not read whole post or just read what you want too??? And you still failed to mention any #2's out their right now better than mj12.

In one of your first replies you used Fitz-Boldin as an example as to why MJ is good enough as a #2, then I said they failed without good defense because if you don't win a superbowl in your tenure together then you've failed.

And it's not just about #2s. There are some #1s that would come in and be the numer 2 here and not command higher targets or complain about Roddy getting way more targets. I also think Roddy wouldn't mind giving up a couple (notice I said a COUPLE, not a lot) of targets a game to another legit receiver.

I'm just naming some names that I think would be good examples of this (NOT players I think the Falcons should go after because some would take too much to get): Hakeem Nicks (plays MUCH bigger than his 6ft suggests), Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings, Mike Williams (SEA). Don't discount anybody just because they aren't extremely tall either.

Michael Jenkins is a FINE number 2 receiver. There is nothing wrong with having him there, but I know that there are better. We can keep MJ and be just fine.

yea, i believe i started a topic that said almost exactly the same thing last night. having Jenkins back has boosted our offense tremendously...now we just need to work out some kinks and keep it up for an entire game. but our offense has been getting better each and every game since the return of Jenkins.

funny how everybody and they momma was on this board talkin about HD83 was gonna eventually take MJ12'S position this season..now yall want to come out and say they was never on the mj12 hatewagon..smh...

+1 and I'm with you. At least MOST of them have given up on that. All it will take is one drop though and they'll be right back at it. The Jenkins hate IMO has never been warranted. He has been in the middle of the pack in #2 WR production the last 3 years...

It may be a confidence thing with Harry...(dropping balls) I'm hopeful that he can get it together down the stretch. Another weapon is just gonna make us that much tougher to stop.

You're absolutely right, HD will be just fine and I believe it will start happening for him just before the play-offs. The timing will be great.

What needs to happen is replacing Weems with Douglas on the return teams. If he's not catching any balls with any regularity, at least use Harry's speed. I can't think of any better way to get him on the field and shake the rust off.

in my opinion, ball security is the key! & I think Weems has done an excellent job........I have enough confidence in our offense that, they can sustain 75 + yard drives & score!

barring our suspect pass defense ....I dont see any kinks!

7-2.....excellent performance overall thus far in my opinion.

You know, this might not mean much - but I really believe Harry is going through the healing process still. The last thing to return is the ability to go all out and not think about the injury.

I've watched Harry and Ryan in pre-game warm-ups and they are on fire. I've seen Ryan throw the ball in the air over 50 yards multiple times and Harry catches it every time - over and over.

Then he gets in the game and drops it. I totally believe it's mental right now and he's still recovering from a painful and grueling injury which robbed him of an entire season. He has to get that totally out of his mind when he's on the field and go all out to make the play without thinking about the hit that might come.

I absolutely believe that he will - and Smitty will help him reach that point - as will Finneran - who has been through it twice. It just takes time.

i agree, no major problems...i'm just talkin about our offense gelling...we seem to improve every game, and allthough our offense is explosive there still seem to be periods where our offense sputters atleast a few times each game.

offense sputters for EVERY NFL team.......it happens! you go through a phase in the game where your opponents are trying to hustle & come back & just are equally hungry as we are.....so nothing wrong at all.

If you ask me.....we need more 'creative' offensive plays (like Eagles offense) .....that's all! & I'm sure it wil come as season progresses & when time is right.

7-2 once again! That's darn good at the moment!

you are right!

I think his game is going to implode! & hoping starts with Rams.....

Roddy is doing pretty good job as well working with him.

HD is behind RW, TG and MJ. This o-line can hold a pass block off long enough to get to the 4th read without Matt having to dump it off to a WR.

I remember us some reverses and end-arounds to HD his rookie year just to get him some touches. I don't know if the injury cost him a step, but if not we should find some way to get him the ball a few times a game. Since Norwood got hurt we haven't had that speedy, shifty element to our offense, and maybe I'm "misremembering" things but HD seemed to be very capable of making guys miss and taking it to the house when we got him the ball with some space to work.
