Falco4
I have to admit, I've only been a fan of the falcons since 2008 when they drafted my college QB. For the past 3 years, we have received little to no recognition for anything. Yea, I understand that we havent WON anything yet, but neither have the cowboys, who should have their own **** channel. I know that one of the reasons why we don't get any press is that we're not flashy or controversial. But there has to be something else. The teams that get coverage are those that battle back from adversity. the saints were the media darlings after katrina, the raiders are all of a sudden the best team in the AFC after their tumultuous coaching changes and QB instability. But if there's any team that has overcome the most adversity, it's got to be us! Vick get's caught for dog fighting, Petrino leaves during the season... we should be on ESPN 24/7 for our resurgence. there should be cameras everywhere documenting the rise of this spectacular team. One argument might be that we are a relatively smaller market compared to other teams. Is Tampa Bay a bigger market than Atlanta? Why are the Bucs getting all these props for being a "young upstart team"? Why is Freeman (although he is becoming better and better) getting more recognition for his late-heroic comebacks? If there's any team that should be identified as young with a QB that has a history for getting it done in the final minutes, it should be us! There's no debate.Another reason could be that the U.S. doesn't like Atlanta, for whatever reason. This also doesn't make sense since everyone and their mothers were rooting for the Falcons in the superbowl against the favored Broncos.I know we ask this question a lot, but I've been dissecting this for a long time, and I can't think of any logical reason why we are not getting the slightest bit of praise or respect. I'm trying to look at it from different perspectives, but it all doesn't add up. Any thoughts?
BadMoonRising
Its simply because of our history of disappointment. No one wants to talk about the Falcons, everytime they say we suck we win.So its better to just keep it safe and not say a thing, since they are still not sure if we are real or lucky.Sooner or later, they have to start talking. but they will avoid it as long as they can. Atl/0
Highlight reel plays, Monster hits, Crazy Stats, Marketable Superstars, Play style. If you don't have those you get only two prime time games a year
hooshman
Its obvious. We are not a good team. I mean, why would anyone want to watch or hear about a 7-2 team that has the best WR in the NFL, best young QB, or a defense that rises to the occasion. Why mention the Falcosn when The Bills, Cowboys and Panthers are more exciting.
Atl/0
Someone posted a couple days that we were the Boise State of the NFL and I tend to agree with that statement. No matter how many wins we get we still get overlooked bc of who we are. When boise wins its because they play scrubs. When we get a victory its that the opposing team lost the game not that we won.I've come to except that the media doesn't like the style we have in the Mike smith era but as long as we win there is nothing they can do about it. mcsupersport
All you heard up until the Falcons/Ravens game was how good the Raven's defense was, and how well Ray and Reed were playing. Now you get spots of, "Are the Raven's Defense Washed UP??!!!??" The number one way to be called a pretender or washed up team is to lose to the Falcons. That is the media perception and it is rooted in years of bad teams, and I think some of the Media's wives and girlfriends playing around on them while they are in Atlanta. Get over it is all I can say, because even if we win the SuperBowl don't count on any prolonged good exposure, you will hear how the game was given to us, and the better team lost. Next year we would then be ranked 3-6 in powerrankings and generally overlooked for "Resurgent" Dallas and the "Gladiator" Steelers.http://www.nfl.com/videos/baltimore-ravens/09000d5d81c11af5/Are-the-Ravens-still-an-elite-defense

I think that superbowl was the least watched game championship game in history because the seahawks were in it. That might happen again ratings wise but hopefully we actually win it unlike them. malk
We have a weak schedule and we haven't been destroying these weak teams like we should be. Now that the national media has had a chance to soak in the Ravens game, everyone had to conclude their defense is overrated (I knew it after the Buffalo game) and they were prematurely ranked to high as the best team in football. So up until this point we haven't played a good team and the good teams we did play we lost. I know, I know you're going to say N.O.. The talk after that game was it was a lucky win and N.O. wasn't playing their best ball. That answers your question. That can be said about every team who wins. Use some common sense geeze. I am so sick of people saying"we beat bad teams and we lose to the good ones" and when we beat good teams they make excuses for how "overrated they are".This is the NFL, all teams have professional football players on it and the ability to play good. All good teams have the ability to play horrible, it all depends on the circumstances. Claiming the teams we beat are bad or overrated is your opinion not a fact.Want to know some facts though?Falcons are first in their division.Falcons are 7-2Falcons are number 1 in the NFCFalcons are number 1 in the NFL. A.F.W.O.
I think it stems deeper than just the Falcons. I think if Birmingham had a team, we would have a better chance seeing how it was the capital of the Confederacy. All other teams from around the south have gotten exposure in the past when they are winning. But seeing how we are so close to the once capital of a rebelion, thats all I see as a reason.Call me crazy, but I remember back in '98 on the football forums of AOL, we southerners were called "hicks", "imbreeds" and "trailer trash" by everyone outside the south. I mean some idiot even bombed the Olympics we had in '96.BY the way, when did Sherman start burning everything? Dalton, Kennesaw or was it somewhere in Tennessee? I think it started close to Atlanta if not the first twon to have gone up in flames.Just my opinion.

If you check some college boards fans from northern states bash southern schools for those things all the time so you may be onto something. They still make movies about those days, and the history channels still do shows as well. I watch them every chance I can to learn why, how and who did what back in the late 1800s.I had an apprentice a couple years ago from Brooklin, when he and his brother were looking for Douglasville on the map, they couldn't find it because they were used to big city life and thought it was also a big city. As I got to know him as a person in the two years we worked together, he always said he thought we all drove horse drawn carriages (LOL). So people from the north still have this weird old school type culture they think we are still in.I don't think it is from left field though, but it does seem like that stuff should have died with the war, right? I'm not the only one on here that has mentioned it either.

cyofish
There's a lot of reasons why media covers certain teams. Our team gets a sufficient amount of attention. If we make it deep into the post season and keep the same nucleus of players I'm sure we'll get more national exposure next year.

So big the transient argument doesn't fly.The reason for the lack of support is complex ... But a first step to correcting would be to get local media that actually promotes interest in the Falcons. I mean, the Ravens are obviously just as overrated as the Falcons are, if not more. They haven't beat anyone good like the Steelers, the Patriots and the Jets, who are easily all top 10 teams. They haven't beat the incredible upsetworthy Browns or anything. Some fluke games are the definition of their team, nothing more.Speaking of a terrible team, back to the Falcons. Their 7-2 record doesn't show how good they really are. Just wait till we get exposed to the Rams, even though we've already beat the Ravens, Saints, and Buccaneers. Cleveland was obviously terrible, even though they beat the Saints and Patriots. We're just lucky SOBs and clearly lack talent, despite being in the top 10 rushing offense, rushing defense, and just outside the top 10 in passing offense. Ignore our ludicrous amounts of interceptions and the emergence of players like Roddy White and Matt Ryan as elite performers.Ignore the facts, and this is where we stand.Trulzy enough? Imo, they're best in the NFC, even though we can lose to some NFC teams, just because we're...well, we're the best. The fact that we can lose to some teams doesn't make them inherently better. What I want isn't necessarily blowouts (bad phrasing) but more of us not giving up on one of the phases of our game just because we've got the lead.
