Interesting though...

Just a thought I had about Matt Ryan and our guys. After seeing what he did Thursday (as well as everything else he has done in the past) I think it's safe to say Matt Ryan is our guy and he will be here a very long time. Do you think it could be possible that we start drafting more guys in the passing game (better pass blocking OL for instance) and see a change in ID of our team to a pass first team? Kinda like a colts team. Let Matt Ryan work hard and try to be our Peyton Manning. Or do you see us always being a run first team? We know the Falcons have always been good at running the ball, but what would happen if we went out and got some more guys in the passing game. We don't ask Matt to pass alot, but what if we did? He's 18-1 at home. I don't know, just a thought

I think he could be, but to be honest I like the thought of us being both.

Ryan the last three games is changing the way people think of our offense, no one will be excited to keep eight in the box and let Ryan beat them anymore.

Smith and MM should have let Ryan lose a long time ago, you can expect our running game to be a **** of a lot more potent with people actually worried about Ryan.

i think we'll stay as the BALANCED team we've always been. we set stuff up with the run, we aren't a run-first team. look at the Chiefs if you want to see a run-first team. or the Panthers that year Jake would complete 7 passes with 2 INTs and they'd still win the game off of late 4th quarter RUNS. our offensive dominations won't be 450 yard passing games, but 300 yard passing, 200 yard rushing games.

I prefer the 50/50 approach to the run and pass game that we have now. Ryan will never be Peyton Manning and I never really understood that comparison(anyone can study film and prepare). If the game plan breaks down Ryan can make plays unlike Manning who was often exposed by teams like NE that made him differ from the original gameplan. Manning is a better passer than Ryan but Matt to me is tougher when the chips are down. Ryan will still make tough throws even when getting knocked around. Likewise, going to a pass oriented offense softens the team as a whole and I like the gritty attitude that this team has. As long as Ryan is good on 3rd down, no need to change the teams M/O.

Those are all very valid points. Our defense is pretty young, very young really. Outside of Abe (who is still very good) and Mike Peterson (a very average player imo) we are young all over. Therefore; I see us going after offensive players this offseaon (replacing Tony G after he retires, WRs, maybe even a Norwood type replacement or a new slot guy)and I just wonder what type of guys we will go after.

I'm not sure where people get this from. Despite the fact that the Falcons have spent very little time behind this year, the Falcons are averaging 37.6 passes per game.

That is 6th out of 32 teams.

Why do people think the Falcons don't pass a lot?

I just realized I got my wish!! Ryan ran the no-huddle the entire 1st half(except for timeouts) and with the lead Mularkey pretty much called the 2nd half except for the winning drive of course.

I read that Smitty and Mularkey had the idea of running the no-huddle since it was a short week and wanted to keep the Ravens from using some of their D-packages. Ryan had 35 plays to choose from and looked great!

I don't know why. It would seem simple enough to check.

For the most part, I would say it is perception from people who don't watch the Falcons. They just go by what they hear. They look just close enough to confirm their own preconceptions and no closer.

Our coaches say were a run-first team. The media says, we will go as far as Turner can take us.

There has been a perception, albeit a false one, that Matt Ryan was more of a game-manager with potential to become more. He's never had a game like the one Thursday night. In fact, no Falcons quarterback has since what, 2000?

It was going to take a breakout performance in the national spotlight to change that perception, and now, perhaps it has.

this was supposed to be a balanced offensive team. with the lackluster qb and wr play though we have depended on the run more frequently. if ryan actually makes a play one of our receivers screws it up. cant win like that. things are getting better for matty melt though. hes improving and jenkins has been tolerable but we need to address the wr position and give mr. melt some studdage to throw to.

DIAF troll............... :lol::lol:

because that debunks their claim that this is a run first team, which its not. its just that the passing game hasnt been as good as it was advertised to be until recent weeks. some people get butthurt when you point out the truth of the matter so its hard to see sometimes especially with all the homers at the koolaid trough around here.

Your posts suck harder than a Vegas hooker.

i think we need to keep working on the passing game. our rushing attack isnt good enough against better defenses to rely solely on a smashmouth gameplan. we have a **** good qb (noodle arm or not hes still smart and a great player) and a great playmaker wr. we need to get the other wrs on the same page and get them out of scrubville.

i think ya need to give finneran his props he's been making big time plays every game this year!
