kschreck
According to Rod Woodson he's behind Donovan Mcnabb and Tony Romo and not a top 10 QB.All I want to know is what's he smoking and can I get $10 worth? The funny thing is, he said it's because the guys he mentioned have been doing it for years. He mentioned YKW. Let's look at his stats from the last few years and then explain to me how the last few years prove he's a top ten QB. BadMoonRising
That list, having Young, Vick, Garrard and no Ryan is nuts.I can't even compute the logic behind that.I kinow vick has played well, but he hasn't won 7 games this season. HouseofEuphoria
The host (can't remember his name) was kind of shocked and seemed to think Rod and Jamie were wrong. The look on his face said it all. He couldnt believe that they didnt think Ryan should be top 10. If the light trusses in the studio had fallen and crushed Rod and Jamie into goo at that very moment, he would have just turned to the camera and said: "Well...there you have it folks. Karma is a real b*tch."
ukfalc
TBH there are a lot of good QB's in the NFL right now... much more than there were 5-6 years ago. It's also difficult to evaluate some guys like McNabb and Favre who have been extremely good in the past by who could be on the decline. For me, the Elite guys are Brees, Manning, Brady and possibly Roethlisberger. After that, it's a lottery. Some guys have fantasy numbers but little or no playoff success to elevate them to the elite status (Rivers, Romo, Rogers & Schaub), some have rings but not the numbers (Eli),and some are being rated on the primarily basis of past achievements (Favre, McNabb). For me, Ryan is anywhere from about #8-#12, but IMO there isn't much between #5 and #12. The media also overlook just how young Matt Ryan is, and the fact the fact that he has played so much better in years 1-3 that just about every other QB on the list (except Manning and possibly Roethlisberger). With the exception of Flacco, every other top 12 QB has 2-3 years more experince that Ryan.
FalconFanSince1970
Matt Ryan is a Top 10 QB. Trust me.Dude is like 6th in winning% as a starter amongst all active NFL QBs with 30 or more starts. Most talking headed experts say that is the ultimate stat for a QB. As of today he leads the league in that category at the halfway point of the 2010 season. Here are his current NFL rankings:1st - winning%4th - passing TDs6th - total passing yards8th - 20+ yard passes8th - 40+ yard passes9th - pass yards per game10th - passer ratingWhat the hail about that ain't Top 10? Can somebody tell me? Dude is also at the top of the class of young under 26 year old QBs like Flacco, Freeman, Bradford, Henne, Sanchez and Stafford. The only one even close is Flacco.Top 10 bro. Trust me.
slamee101
espn doesn't even list Matt Ryan as an option. All ProThey had David Garrard and Vince Young on that list...REALLY?!?!Really?!?!?SMH.
Captain Falcon
I would like to say that Vick is a top ten, but right now I still think it is to early to say that. I would definately put Ryan in there before I would put vick there.
Goal Line D
If Ryan keeps up these amazing clutch comebacks he will be held in the same regard as John Elway.....albeit with more SB rings!!
BoomGoesTheDynamite
The funny thing is, if the Ravens had won that game, the talking heads would have been all over Flacco's jock about how 'great' and 'clutch' he is and how he is a top 10 QB Edited November 13, 2010 by BoomGoesTheDynamite
ukfalc
The only reason they could come up with for not putting Ryan in the top 10, was that he doesn't have enough 300 yard passing games to be considered a top 10 QB. The first thing I would say, is when have 300 yard passing days become the benchmark for being a great QB?I must have missed that meeting. It certianly used to be the case that QBs with 300 yards passing days lost games more often that they won them - although admittedly I'm not sure that's still the case.To put Ryan's numbers in perspective, Ryan has 4 x 300 yard passing games in 39 games. After 39 games played, the other top QBs were as follows:-Romo 12Manning 9Rogers 8Brees 5Rivers 5Ryan 4Brady 4McNabb 3Favre 3Flacco 3 Roethlisberger 3Vick 1Of course, its also worth mentioning that Ryan started as a rookie, whereas many of the other top Qb's were able to spend at least 1 season (and in some cases several seasons) learnign the game from the bench. I've excluded those missed seasons/games from the above numbers. Matt Ryan's 39th game come in the middle of his 3rd season, whereas Aaron Rogers 39th Game was actually the last game of his 5th season. Most of the Qb's mention are loosing despite the numbers. Ryan brings the Falcons back from the brink and wins. This season, Mcnabb Romo and Rivers(for now) haven't. Taijis
I think the reason that alot of ESPN analysts and other writers don't consider Matt Ryan a top 10 QB is because they all know the history of this team. Alot of people know that Michael Turner is a huge reason that this team succeeds, and because of that Matt Ryans leadership qualities are shadowed. I love Matt Ryan but I still think he is somewhere between the 10 - 15 ranks for top QB.My list in no particular order 1. Tom Brady2. Peyton Manning3. Drew Brees4. Ben Rothelisberger5. Philip Rivers6. Aaron Rodgers7. Eli Manning8. Tony Romo9. Donovan McNabb10. Eli Manning11. Brett Favre12. Matt Ryan13. Joe Flacco14. Kyle Orton15. DerrtyBirdGirl
That was the most ridiculous mess I have ever heard. So apparently a QB is only considered top notch if he can throw 300 yards a game!? And I disagree with Romo being on the list. Romo is top 15...yes. But not top 10 in my opinion. If you throw the ball 50 times a game Im sure he will throw for 300 or 400 yards each time.Ryan doesnt do that because he doesnt HAVE to. And because he doesn't HAVE to does not mean he can not contrary to this foolish logic Rod was talking about. We are a run first team. Period. slick0ne
I'm pretty sure the Body of work comes into play big time. I would have to take a double take if he listed guys like Flaco, Sanchez or any other young QB that came into the NFL in the past few years. But come to think of it I really couldn't give a rat's booty what anyone outside of the Falcons Front Office and Coaching staff thinks of any of our players...Shooooooooot, even the ones on the practice squad.
