Can we get a ban system?

This is not my idea. It has been brought up by many people much wiser than myself many times, but I have yet to see a Moderator response, so I'm asking again.

These boards have a wonderful system of up-voting and down-voting posters.

It is easy to see who is trolling, and who has legitimate points.

It makes for a disheartening MB experience to log on the morning after a fantastic win, only to see that people with negative reputations are out and about, trolling the boards and trying to deflate a fan-base that just watched their team make a statement on national TV.

I'm not saying that there should be an automatic ban when you reach, say, -100 reputation, but wouldn't it be very easy for the mods to simply take a look at banning people with extraordinarily low reps? The MB members have already expressed their displeasure for the poster by giving them negative marks, and there is a limit per day on how many negatives you can give, so the system should give a very clear picture of who the problem posters are.

I really love these boards, and this team, and I don't want people to stop objective analysis (for good or bad), but a troll is a troll is a troll. Everyone knows one when you see them, and I would love to see the Mods encourage educated discussion, rather than just flame-wars.

Thanks for having a great message board.

Honestly dude, the best way is to just not open that thread. I just don't let it get to me. You know as soon as you see the title that it is a troll just trying to ruffle feathers.

Just ignore it.

Also, I think they fixed the ignore feature so you won't see ANY of the person threads/posts.

This would be a great improvement, I had stopped adding people to my ignore list because they still showed up on the frontpage.

I may open it to get a little laugh, but I DO NOT RESPOND TO OBVIOUS TROLL BAIT THREADS!!! The best thing to do is NOT RESPOND AND LET THEIR THREADS DIE IN OBSCURITY!!!

I've surrendered to that notion a long time ago since nothing is done but honestly why leave it to the posters to sift through the trash? One click and 90% of the garbabe is gone.

I get home after the game last night expecting it to be somewhere between high fives and people giving objective analysis positive or negative but instead I see childish trolling.

It really does bring the quality of the board down. Honestly I resigned myself to nothing will be done and it doesn't matter the post will be bumped even if it is by the troll.

James H did mention in another post he is watching the neg reps and may take away some privileges. At least if they remove their ability to start posts for those who don't care about the team at all and therefore have as much being here as I do trolling a women's sewing MB telling that they are idiots.

Ya I do too. I open them because I know I am not going to get pissed off when I read it. I get a nice laugh out of it as well.

I love the trolls that actually waste their time writing like 7 paragraphs about Matty's 'noodle' arm. Straight comedy.

Nice.

The rep system has been pointless so far. We have 'posters' going around with -2000. Clearly, that is a red flag. I am glad to here that it will be used for something.

Total truth. trolling is less fun if it doesn't bother the victim.

Yea, check it out and see if it works. I think they were talking about it in the ABF forum.

Don't know how long it will take to work, but I'm still seeing topics from users I ignored, it just blanks out the original post, but the thread is still visible on the front page.

Dumb idea. I got neg'd about 50 points for saying Roddy's last TD was a penalty and was accused of being a Saints or Bucs fan.

It's ridiculous how dumb some people on here are when you say something bad about the Falcons. I'm as big of fan as anybody. But I also don't have to be blind to everything else.

I see what you're saying, but in my original post I specifically said that there shouldn't be an automatic ban at a certain level.

Here: "I'm not saying that there should be an automatic ban when you reach, say, -100 reputation, but wouldn't it be very easy for the mods to simply take a look at banning people with extraordinarily low reps? The MB members have already expressed their displeasure for the poster by giving them negative marks, and there is a limit per day on how many negatives you can give, so the system should give a very clear picture of who the problem posters are."

What I was suggesting is that the mods review posters with very low reps, to see whether they are trolling or just getting unfairly down-voted.

Truth be known, trolls that don't violate the CoC will be allowed and even welcomed to stay and post because in the end it's all about traffic and how much these boards can generate.

They don't bother me with their ridiculous rants on the Falcons. Personal attacks, however, should be looked at closely.

No. It's not happening.

Is that a "No, we will not use the reputation system to ban people." or "No, we will not ban obvious trolls, because that is just part of the internet." or is it something entirely different?

I'm honestly curious, and since text doesn't always convey tone properly, this entire thread is intended to be constructive, not critical, snide or sarcastic.

Understood.

Honestly, just an ignore feature that allowed me to not have to filter through posters I know are not altruistic would make the biggest difference. Supposedly this was done, but I am still seeing topics by people I know I have on my ignore list.

A banning system by the posters will not happen. We qre not going to have vigilante bannings.

This subject has been beaten to death. If you like it here, post here. Just ignore the people you don't want to read. Self-discipline is a great thing!

I certainly do like it here, and I do intend to continue to post here.

Like I said further up, I wasn't asking for an automatic banning system, which I clearly understand could cause "vigilante bannings". Just suggesting that maybe people who have -1000+ reputations are not the kind of people who should be continually allowed to start topics.

You gave me a clear answer, and while I wish it were different, an answer is all I was asking for, and I was given it.

Thanks.

Honestly, I wish it were different too. I'm really on your side, But we all have to play the hands we are dealt, and this board is what it is, love it or not.
