Thursday is a Win-Win regardless

I've been reading a couple of threads lately and a significant number of people are "worried" about Thursday's game. Regardless of the outcome, our team will be better off.

We WIN the game:

- A victory against a top AFC team (as well as the #1 team in the NFL) will do wonders for our confidence.

- One game closer to making the playoffs and home field advantage.

- Finally recognized by the media and given our long-awaited props.

We LOSE the game:

- We get a taste of top-tier competition, which will prepare us for the rest of the season and post-season.

- We find out how tough our team is.

- We lose against a quality opponent: I say it all the time, beat the teams that you're supposed to beat, steal a couple of wins on the road, and play tough against better opponents. Nothing wrong with losing to a better team.

- Ryan and the offense get a taste of a top defense. We're not going to play another defense like them for a while.

- We were playing with house-money to begin with. Before the season, I don't think anyone penciled this game as a victory. The media doesn't give us any attention, so if we lose, it's really not a big deal.

- If the reports are true, and we are missing Weatherspoon, White, and McClure, and we still keep this game close, it will also do wonders for our confidence when knowing we weren't 100%.

Tomorrow is going to be a great game. We need to get that dome rocking (i'll try to make as much noise from LA as possible). Let's give flacco a taste of our home field advantage.

If we lose, I'm not going to be happy. I'm never going to be happy after a loss. In most cases losses are a result of poor execution by either the players or the coaches.

Sure, we'll adjust after the loss, but it will not make me happy. It will never make me happy. This is not a "Win/Win" situation at all.

This match-up is a proving ground between two of the top teams in the NFL and one of us doesn't belong there.

I'm gonna go with this. ^^

7-2 is the only thing that matters right now. We've got half the NFC breathing down our necks, including two divisional opponents, and we have no room for error. 6-3 would drop us right into the thick of things. That's not where we wanna be.

Looking long term, i wanna lock up that first spot now and make everyone else chase us. Going for home field advantage in the playoffs is top priority right now.

no problem in being upset after a loss. at the same time, i'm not going to be "worried" about this game. we lose, it wouldn't be the end of the season.

I was with you until the final statement. It is very possible that both teams are among the top teams in the NFL. When two good teams play each other, one of them has to lose. It doesn't necessarily mean the other isn't a top team.

Regardless, I want a WIN!!!! Here's to 7-2

We are headed for 7-2 but if we lost I would rather it be to the Ravens than the Rams.

NFC ramifications are not on the line here. 13-3 is just as good in my opinion as 14-2 because both get us homefield advantage and we start the playoffs 0-0 regardless.

Well, you don't hear people talking about how the Colts were better than the Saints last year.

You can't have two number ones. That would make eleven.

Actually we CAN lose this game it and nto effect much at all.

Because we still will have a great conference and division record.

We can lose, and the saitns can win and we would STILL be in first place

As long as we keep taking care of the NFC teams we play we should be in great shape come end ofthe year.

Ideally ofcourse 7-2 IS much better but 6-3 with our conference record (4-1) we would still be in great shape.

#1 ranked team? Is this the BCS or NFL? Ranking doesn't mean anything in the NFL. Wins do. The same can be said for media recognition. Who cares what the media thinks? The media has NO influence as to who plays in the Superbowl.

I love the glass half full mentality you have. It is good to make positives out of negatives. 99% of the posts I read geared this way, I would agree with. However, I disagree that this is a win/win. A loss is in no way shape or form, a win. Not to mention, we are in a tight divison and have the Bucs and Saints breathing down our necks.

The players need to get a win against a top tier team to prove to the talking heads, and to themselves that we can roll with the best of them.

If you want to get technical, they probobly already do beleive with a win in NO, and a close loss in PIT. This win would just be a HUGE confidence booster.

I think I understand the sentiment of the OP. I was thinking this same thing earlier today. This is quite possibly the toughest game on our entire schedule (other than the New Orleans game at their trash heap). If we lose this game, its not an indictment of our team... Not like losing to Carolina or something, which would be a travesty.

But of course, we all want a win.

and should have lost a 3rd. remember 1st and goal and our kicker choked on a chip grrrr

Game should have been over before that field goal attempt. Remember Ryan missing by inches on a what most likely was a TD bomb in OT before that
