sdogg
Things don't sound good for Cam. Auburn fans can support their guy all they want, and I encourage them to do so, but this doesn't look pretty. I don't think Cam or his father have said the right things and these unnamed sources could be huge in this investigation.Where there's smoke, there's fire. So far, there's a lot of smoke rising. Just a matter of time before the fire will appear.
SacFalcFan
the timing of this coming out is quite interesting. auburn has 2 more big games left before the title game. should be a very interesting finish for them.
Mr. Hoopah!
Even the AU director says the accusations are : "sad" "That he's done everything we have asked him to do".Notice a complete and utter lack of denial.ESPN took his comments out of context. Read the article again. Jacobs was condemning the allegations as a smear campaign.

However, if ESPN keeps releasing a story a day to maintain their current schedule, he probably won't win the Heisman.
Mr Pickle1
ESPN took his comments out of context. Read the article again. Jacobs was condemning the allegations as a smear campaign. Then he and Chizik need to get on the same page.If Chizik is talking about Federal privacy laws, those are only implicated if you ACTUALLY REPORT SOMETHING IN SOMEONE'S FILE.If I stand up and say that Cam Newton had papers written for him by Andy Griffith in every single class, I might be in trouble for Libel/Slander....But me making up **** doesn't implicate Fed Privacy rules. KeepItDownHomeCuz
WWWELP I sure don't feel to good any more three casinos have taken the AU/UGA game off the booksFMLAnyhow heres any issue I have anybody who wishes this upon a school is a TERRIBLE fan, and this includes a VERY large portion of my home schools fan base and I have ALWAYS taken issue with it, with that said Fear Caudle possibly UGA
Mr Pickle1
Know the best way to fight a smear campaign? A flat, specific/blanket denial. Haven't heard that at all. I see a lot of obfuscation and redirection. I see a lot of blaming other people. Newton would ABSOLUTELY strengthen his position by saying he didn't do it, if in fact he didn't do it. There is no downside. It's not even complicated. The fact that he hasn't, speaks volumes.****, he could LIE about it, and it would make things better in the short term, and not really hurt him in the long term... However, I do wish (if they DID pay) that they didn't. This story is a disgrace that reflects poorly on the SEC and college football. The game is tainted now, regardless.I am STILL hopeful that this is brush fire that blows over. I have no love for Auburn, but this is just bad, and will encourage even more NCAA nosiness. This is BAD for CFB.
richham
I would keep Cam Newton and his father away from a microphone. He and his father have made some very strange statements about this whole thing. They certainly aren't helping their case. The biggest thing to me is the source saying Auburn was the highest bidder. Now Auburn and UT are being implicated directly instead of just the Newton's and Miss St. Ouch! I don't care if it is an unnamed source. You better believe statements like those will be investigated and either the person saying this or the schools are going to reap some severe consequences. tjb
This is BAD for CFB.We're in full agreement there. It sucks for the other players not named Cam, b/c the actual game is going to be an after thought now. It's all going to be about this BS, that to this point, we have no concrete evidence either way.Who knows the ripple effect this will have to other programs? Last thing anyone needs is the NCAA snooping around more.

richham
I wouldn't read much into him playing. If he is guilty of any of this, he would have been ineligible for the entire season so sitting him now really wouldn't do much but hurt Auburn anyways.I actually hope he plays on Saturday. It will be much sweeter if we beat the Auburn that is undefeated with their best player running the helm.

tjb
Per CGC Cam is playing Saturday (this is an update from his regularly scheduled teleconference)I hope he does play personally. I'd be surprised if he didn't, honestly. The NCAA just moves so slowly. The only way I could see him not playing is if AU did somethign themselves. And if they've not done anyting so far, I don't see them doing it now. With that being said, I don't wish any ill will towards him or AU. Now, if this turns out to be true, and he did indeed get a big paycheck from AU, then I hope both are handed severe penalties. But, until the facts come out (if they ever even do), I don't wish anything bad to happen to either.

If this stuff is true, Auburn will be in a world of hurt anyways, so as you say they might as well go all in at this point and hope for the best. If they do find him guilty, the previous 10 games won't count anyways. Might as well play him. What's the difference in forfeiting 11 games instead of 10? Besides, if they do sit him, and they lost, and come to find out he is cleared, could you imagine the backlash? I know I'd be pissed if I was an AU fan.My biggest fear right now is that they do sit him, and we lose. I have no idea who their back up is though. sdogg
I hope he plays:If he plays and Aub wins, then most will just accept that the better team won. No big loss for UGA.If he plays and UGA wins, then its a big moral victory for UGA and hopefully will carry over into next season. If he doesnt play and UGA wins, then the excuses will come out and no one will give UGA any credit. If he doesnt play and UGA loses, then that another blow to Richt and a horrible season. I want him playing.
Billy Ocean
So back in October we had a discussion about QBs in next April's draft. I mentioned that Cam might leave school after this year and the idea was pooh poohed (sorry, I can't help myself) by pretty much everybody. I was in agreement that it would be in his best interest if he came back, but we all know these kids often don't do what is in their best interest. Regardless of how all this plays out I would say that he likely won't be back at Auburn in '11. I can guarantee you that the NFL security investigators knew about Reggie Bush's parents' living arrangements before he was drafted, so I can't even say for certain how much all of this would hurt his draft stock. Billy Ocean
Wednesday, November 10 SEC teleconference Chizik: “I wanna get off the table up front the fact that Camerrn Newton will be playing Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs." Also from the teleconference:Later, a reporter asked Spurrier if it was true – as quarterback Stephen Garcia said – that this game was the biggest in South Carolina history.“No, that’s not true. Please don’t listen to Stephen all the time when he’s speaking,” Spurrier said.http://dawg-extra.blogspot.com/2010/11/sec-teleconference-blog-most.html Edited November 10, 2010 by Billy Ocean

Its is Eerie how similar this is to Albert Means case in many ways and most all Auburn fans I know were jumping up and down when we got hit with sanctions that cost us a decade basically. Given that fact and all the accusations I have heard from them and other Auburn fans the last few years in recruiting and everything else I should be enjoying this but truth is I hate it because it is bad for college football and esp the SEC. Any SEC Auburn rivals who are enjoying this or hoping it is true are not seeing the big picture IMO.

Its bad enough to get caught cheating, but to pull off such a pompous defense- if these accusations are true, there will be no leniency. I like Auburn and I hope they didn't cheat, but if they did, you reap what you sow.
