Ok so I was watching the DP Show this morning. They had the head guy of the BCS on there and he was like well if there is more than 1 undefeated team out there that doesn't get to play in the NC game I say to them hey sorry, better luck next time.

And they went on to eventually make the point that while the BCS refuses to change for the likes of Boise State, TCU, Utah, ect. (somehow everyone always conviently leaves out Auburn in 2004) that the only way to get the BCS to change is to have one of the "choosen" programs like an Alabama, Texas or Ohio State have a perfect record and get left out in the cold. That would be the only way they would change the BCS.

Everyone else meanwhile is screwed.

That's what I've saying all along. Mid-level conferences have no chance of playing for a NC, even if they go undefeated. Auburn was left out in '04 because UTX and USC were "bigger name schools." I'm hoping for a best case scenario when the popular teams from each conference go undefeated, all he*l would break loose.

Let me explain;

Say Ohio State goes undefeated and wins out the Big 10, UF or Bama go undefeated to represent the SEC champ, UTX or Oklahoma go undefeated to represent the Big 12, and USC goes undefeated to represent the Pac 12.

How do you determine who plays for a NC, they're all big name schools, but 2 teams will have to get screwed.

You only need 3 out of 4 teams from big name conferences to go undefeated for the madness to begin. It happened in '04, but if you noticed, the media quickly shoved AU aside and told them to basically shut up. If that would have been Bama or UF, the sh*t would have hit the fan.

At the end of the day, it will take this scenario of a big name school being left out of a NC for anybody to even consider making changes to this mythical NC system.

At the very least we need a "plus 1" arrangement to help determine a true champion.

Exactly. That's exactly why us Auburn fans get madder than a nest of hornets whenever we hear people say all you have to do is go undefeated in a big conference and you get an automatic spot in the BCS NC game. When people say no SEC team will ever be left out in the cold. They all conviently forget that it has already happened to Auburn in 2004 because Auburn is not one of the "choosen" programs. Had that been Alabama all heck would have broke loose. But because it was Auburn they just pushed us aside.

The Bowl Championship Series - Where the fat get fatter. <_<

Yep. It's amazing to me how the people that run the BCS, the people that run these individual bowl games, the tv contracts all get boat loads of money and yet the players don't get a single penny because it's against the rules. How is that even remotely fair and leagal?

Texas didn't go to the National Championship in '04, Oklahoma did

The big problem with '04 was Auburn was clearly, at least to me, the best team in the country - Utah was undefeated and beat the piss out of the Big East Champs, I can't remember who it was West Virginia I think, and Oklahoma was the worst of the 5 undefeateds

The problem for college football is it doesn't allow for a 2007 New York Giants scenario - In fact I would suggest the 2007 Giants would have been lucky to get a bowl game at all - It also doesn't allow for a 1999 Rams scenario, The Rams had been terrible for years within a terrible division so they would have been automatically disqualified from the Championship based on strength of schedule alone, not to mention they lost to the Titans in the regular season which, in the BCS world, pretty much means you can't see that game again

The BCS is terrible, the entire ranking system is terrible - everybody knows it but as the old saying goes Money talks..........

Utah beat Pittsburgh that year. Auburn was automatically disqualified because they were preseason #1 in 2003 and fell flat on their face. Then they were preseason #17 in 2004 and people never took them seriously. Just another reason to hate preseason rankings.
