Joe Flacco won't sell Brent Grimes short

Recommended Posts

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco just finished a conference call with the Atlanta media. I’ll have much more on Flacco and Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan, who were selected in the 2008 draft and have had similar careers, later in the week as we get ready for the Falcons and Ravens to play Thursday night.

But Flacco had one pretty good quote on another topic. Talking about Atlanta’s defense, Flacco had a funny line about cornerback Brent Grimes. Before anyone goes viewing this as a shot at Grimes, let’s make it clear that Flacco’s intent certainly didn’t sound like a slap. It sounded more like a compliment.

“They have one guy,’’ Flacco said. “He’s pretty short. But he can go out and play. He can be a little aggravating too.’’

Grimes is listed at 5-foot-10, but I’ve stood next to him and can assure you he’s not that tall. But Grimes, who came into the league as an undrafted free agent, has carved out a nice career. That’s largely because, as Flacco said, Grimes is an amazing athlete and an intense competitor.

This is bad news for the Falcons elite. Dunta made a statement, "there were more balls thrown my way than in games past." The league has figured it out; the Falcons best CB isn't the highest paid.

Quarterbacks that have under estimated Grimes abilities have paid the consequences. I'm afraid Flacco is setting up a busy night for Dunta. They will go after him. If I was an OC I would, he plays 10 yards off his man, he doesn't have great speed, he's often thinking instead of playing and last but not least, he has no sense of urgency.

I would love to see Dunta in press coverage on Q Boldin. That match-up would be fun to watch. Don't play conservative, even in his conservatism he was beat for a TD, so play him where he's comfortable, up close and personal.

lota match ups to look at here

big test for us, but these 2 Os Falcons and Ravens are mirror images of each other

so both Ds go against these Os every day, the scheme is a tad dif , but by player skill set it looks alot alike

M Ryan J Flacco

M Turner R Rice

R White A Boldin

M Jenkins D Mason

Gonzo Heap

2 physical O Lines

so its the D Match ups that are the big key here i believe

we need Grimes on Mason and DRob on Boldin

Heap will need to be shadowed by W Moore or DeCoud

and Rice outa the backfield ????? good question if Spoon cant go....

not sure if Nic can handle that kinda task.....

ruff match ups

esp if we show 8 in the box,,,,,,

thankfully they have the same problems altho their coverage match ups are easier because they have 4 LBs on the field on 1st and 2nd down to handle Gonzo and our backs in the flat and such....

this is by far the best team we have faced this yr

some may say Eagles

we are better than Eagles, we were just out coached , which dont happen often here anymore

Dunta took a bad angle on that play.

I was replying to blkbigdog35 about Grimes... or as I like to call him... "Danger Mouse"

But in response to Robinson's missed tackle, it happens. I'm not going to overreact like most people do, because he has played solid enough to get my respect so far this season. I'm glad we have them both as corners.

@Shred

Wanna know how to destroy 3-4 Put 2 wrs and a TE on the left side and run a misderect off Right tackle, Roddy, HD, and TG on left put Mike Jenkins on the Right, What is this going to do you ask? well for one it's going to go down like this, the Ravens run a 3-4

seeing a 3 wide formation with 1 TE they're going to think pass So more than likely the safeties will stay deep, 2 of the LBs will than move out to cover Tony G and HD, This puts it in our favor right here. Basically all baker has to do is block the DE down Blacklock blocks down the DT McClure takes Ray Lewis Jenks Crack the other LB and Clabo gets either the SS coming down hill or the CB, that Leaves Turner 1 on 1 with a guy in the secondary and turner running pads downfield. I'll guarentee you we run this and it works to perfection. If the ravens decide to blitz than just swing it out to Roddy on a WR Screen (Tony G is lined up as a WR in this btw.) That would also put the Ravens at a dis-advantage. Point being there are many ways to exploit a 3-4, they're just high risk High reward plays.
