If we to get 1 free agent next year, even if we have no chance of picking them up, who would it be?

My top picks, in no order -

-Miles Austin

-Antonio Gates

-Nick Mangold

-Ray Edwards

-Haloti Ngata

-Lamarr Woodley

-Champ Bailey

-Antoine Bethea

Who would you want, is he on this list?

Who would you want, is he on this list?

Austin signed a 7 year $57 million

Gates signed a 6 year $40 million

Mangold signed a 8 year $57 million

Ngata hmm... we are good at DT and he's more of a 3-4 linemen.

Woodley might be a little rich for our blood plus never played professionally in 3-4.

Bailey doubt we spend major dollars on secondary this year.

Bethea signed 4 years $27 million

Is there a website that has up-to-date accurate list of Free Agents? It seems the list is different depending on the website.

That being said i would like for us to to go out and sign Offensive Lineman and be done with it. I'm probable dreaming but 1 would like for us to sign 2 offensive lineman that rate type A or B free agents.

Why do you guys like Matt Light so much... I dont think the Pats will let him walk plus dude have been getting beat this year.

To be honest, I initially brought up the Matt Light thought in a mini mock I did a couple of weeks ago. I think everybody just saw it as a logical idea for a stopgap in place of Baker.

But I have since let that go once I watched him. I want Logan Mankins more than any possible FA. I think he will be able to give Baker a lot more help on that side than Blalock is capable of currently.

Baker/Mankins/McClure/Johnson/Clabo in my opinion would be a very good line. This would give us all focus on playmakers in the draft.

If I had to come up with a list:

Jermon Bushrod

Jacoby Jones

James Jones

Marcedes Lewis

Zach Miller

Kevin Smith

Steve Smith

Darren Sproles

Not big names, but I like it...

Bushrod-could develop to be better than Baker

Jones & Jones - Hit or miss, but could be #2s if they hit

I would take Miller over Lewis, but Lewis is still young

For a speed back I would rather have Sproles, a home run hitter like Norwood

Steve Smith - Very similar to Michael Jenkins, just younger

Bushrod: Good pickup

Jones: will probably be overpriced and hasn't shown he can be more than a slot guy.

Lewis: Has been on fire lately. If TG retires he would be a great pickup.

Miller: Same

K. Smith: too injury prone and slow to be our speed back.

S. Smith: Would be a great pickup imho. Him and Roddy would be a fantastic combo.

Sproles: Will probably cost too much.

Sorry to steal your thunder vel but I've had Light in my mock since Sept.

As for as the question why, is because philosophical acquiring vet who still may have a little something in the tank is something we've been doing since TD's been here. Not to mention Light would be cheap, TD already knows him and NE has always had one of the best olines in the game with Light playing LT. In a year where we it is possible that we turnover two-three personnel on the starting unit alone you, we are going to lose some chemistry and you can't replace everybody with young stud olinemen that easy. I know most people here rather find a final solution in the next draft that is not that easy. Not to mention look at the impact it could have on a LT if we draft in 2012, having a former All Pro LT mentor him and the having the luxury of sitting a year to learn the nuances of the game.

All of these player we acquired was viewed to be in their final years and look at the impact their acquisitions have years later by allowing us to draft solid players in other positions.

my guess is Light will want to get as much as he can since this will be his last deal. I won't be shocked if he sees an upgrade in pay. We will see.

Wanting a raise and getting a raise are different. There won't be enough demand for him to demand a raise. Just think Orlando Pace a HOF LT two years ago was only able to get a 2 year 10 million contract and he has a far better career than Light.

you don't think teams don't want to upgrade LT?

The difference is Pace should have retired as he can't play anymore and Light can still play at a pretty high level.

No love lost, I just hadn't seen it mentioned until after I posted it but clearly nobody took serious consideration outside of me and you apparently

Maybe 3-4 teams that will even consider him because they haven't drafted or signed a LT in the past three years (Bears, Bills, Raiders and maybe Falcons).

Bears I doubt strapped for cash depending on CBA

Bills I doubt Light would want to play for them

Raiders again I doubt Light would want to play for them unless Davis breaks the bank which is possible.

Falcons need olinemen and we love signing specialty players for cheap, that maybe on the decline of their career to mentor young talent.

3-4 teams is not enough of demand to have leverage.

Add:

Ravens (Gaither will likely leave)

Colts (They could look to replace Charlie Johnson who is best at OG)

Chiefs (always in need of o.line help)

Lions ( see chiefs)

Browns (see chiefs)

this list also doesn't take into consideration teams that may lose OT in FA

I doubt the Bears will be strapped for cash and if they are they can cut a less useful player.

why wouldn't he want to play for the raiders? They are getting ALOT better.

3-4 teams is plenty of leverage.
