TRENT DILFER STFU YOU SUCKED AND WON A SUPER BOWL BECAUSE OF DEFENSE YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OFFENSE LMAO.

F*** Trent Dilfer

Exactly. Thats why he says its the defense that makes us a year short of the super bowl.

You need to watch the video again.

EDIT: I dont disagree a whole lot with Dilfer tbh. Our depth would benefit alot from having a year under their belt and possibly a high draft pick to supplement.

Your rant is kind of ironic considering your reasoning.

Logically, I agree with Trent Dilfer 100% on the Falcons toughness on defense. I just think there is one thing that Trent is missing the boat on.

It's becoming obvious that the only really good teams in the NFC besides the Falcons are all in the NFC East. And actually, all of them are good except Dallas, and Dallas will recover and win some games. All of those teams have to beat up on each other for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, the Falcons have a schedule full of mediocre competition and also teams that are not physical, meaning they should not only win plenty of games, but also not be beaten all to h*ll by the time the playoffs roll around.

Because Philly is good, the Redskins are good, and the Cowboys will always be dangerous, the Falcons have a much easier trek to home field advantage than anybody in the NFC East.

I think that is the only point that Dilfer is missing.

That really wasn't much hate there. I tend to agree with him. I think we need one more good draft to be an every year contender. That doesn't mean it can't happen this year though. There is a long road ahead. Right now we need to get healthy and stay healthy and we need to get our special teams to play at a higher level.

Hopefully Dunta and Weatherspoon are back on the field after the bye. It's obvious those guys make a pretty big difference.

Yea, I think it will tighten up as well ...... get them back, and Owens back to nickel ...DeCoud needs to step up his game after the bye as well ...the young unit is still jelling, and hopefully Biermann will bring some more heat off the edge .....I don't think we have seen the best they have to offer yet ....they should improve every week now ....just gotta stay healthy , I want our full aresenal intact for the Raven game .....

I get to use the Cardinals for two examples here.

Think anyone picked the 2006 Cardinals to win the World Series once the post-season started? Nope. Yet they still won it.

Think anyone picked the 2008 Cardinals to go to the Super Bowl once the playoffs started? Nope. Yet they still made it.

Let's look at Arizona's defense that year:

Rank/Stat:

19th - 331YPG

28th - 26.6PPG

It's a good point. Also the Colts were last in the NFL in rush defense the year they won the Super Bowl. In the era of "parity", teams can get hot.

Still, I agree with Dilfer's point overall.

In some regards I do agree with Trent. It is not hating on the Falcons but seeing this past game makes me realize that we need a good cornerback that is in the 6ft-6'2 range to go up against these taller receivers. Our guys on defense are competing but good QBs can take advantage of their receivers height (Roddy White and Jenkins with Matty and Finneran with Vick). When the playoffs start the teams with weaker defensive backfields do not tend to make it that far. If the front office address this one problem in the offseason then the Falcons would be the favorites from the NFC for the Super Bowl next year. Plus the added benefit is having Grimes playing the slot reciever which is most teams most dangerous weapon (not the #1 reciever) and Grimes skill set fits perfectly in that role.

It'd be great to have a taller CB but fact is there aren't too many in the NFL. The only CB that comes to mind who is taller than 6 foot who is really good is Aso. Revis is only 5-10...

I hate Trent Dilfer, but he has a point. We need to get back to playing the kind of defense we were playing in the first four-five weeks.

Can it be traced back to us loosing Weatherspoon and Robinson? I think the loss of those 2 have been detrimental to our defense, and thank god we have the bye coming up. I hate a week without my falcons, but this bye is a godsend.

Maybe its an even compensation for the time we met 3 teams coming off their bye in straight weeks ;)

I agree another good draft would really help but all we really need is for the team to get hot at the right time...

If we manage to get homefield and the defense and offense manage to turn it up a notch...who knows how far we could go?

However we still need to get there first.

;)

Yeah Trent Dilfer has a point. The thing is I KNOW that the falcons want it, they honestly probably want to win more than most teams in the NFL, you can see it in game play. And yes the defense shows it too, but to be honest our defense is not the greatest. Its good but not the greatest, there needs to be more fire and explosive plays, this may or may not come from the defensive plays called. Imagine if our D-Line looked like the Giants.

our defense was top ten with dunta and spoon when they return the defense will return to top 10 watch.
