Rev's thoughts from the Bengals game

Good morning gang. Another fun weekend at the Dome!

1. Other than 4 minutes in the 3rd quarter, the Falcon dominated this game. We were clearly the better team on Sunday. It wasn't perfect by any means, but the game never once fell like it was out of hand, even when the Bengals took the lead. It was a great bounce back after the Eagles game.

2. Hey! Matt Ryan can throw the deep ball! Go figure. It was nice of Mullarkey to open the playbook up.

3. The biggest problem with the defense was giving up the big play. We came out blitzing in the 3rd quarter and it completely backfired. The Bengals were ripping us for big yardage. Once the D went back into a coverage mode, the bleeding slowed way down.

4. If you now do not understand the impact of having Robinson healthy, then you are a buffoon.

5. It needs to be someone's job to sit next to Mullarkey and remind him how many yards Ryan has in a game. It's a crime to let him Finish with 299 yards. I say we take a yard from the Eagles game and give Ryan a 300 yard game this week. We aren't going to miss that yard.

6. The biggest difference in the offense this week and last week was the OL. Ryan had time to throw this week, and the OL had a good push in the running game. As we go forward, the OL has to perform well. Period.

7. No special teams blunders this week.

8. It's too bad that we lost so bad against the Eagles. This team still sucks, right? We are still pretenders, right? Even though right now we are the #1 seed in the NFC, it's really all over because of the Eagles loss, right? I mean, we still suck and it was all over last week, right?

9. And for all of the people that wanted to throw rocks last week because some of us were "delusionally positive", I think you need to re-evaluate yourselves. For those of us that could recognize that this is a good team that played a bad game against the Eagles, I guess that makes us the realists! Some of us were stable enough not to buy into the gloom and doom of the alleged "realists". If you were a "realist" last week, you officially need to change the name of your little club to the "Debbie Downers". Those that remained positive and objectives were proven to be the REAL Realists (Gritz – make us a t-shirt supporting Real Realism).

10. A week off to heal and rest up, and then we crush the Bucs. It's a good time to be a Falcon's fan.

11. Forgot one. No one here should have a bad thing to say about Roddy getting stripped of the ball. Sometimes in teh NFL, good players make good plays. Pacman had to pry that ball out and made a fantastic play. Nothing but love for Roddy.

12. Aslo, if there is a better WR in the league RIGHT NOW, I don't know who it is. Roddy is player better than just about any other receiver in the NFL.

First of all another great breakdown. I have to admit I was upset last Sunday after we got samcked around. But this is THE BEST FALCONS TEAM in my fan lifetime. ANd that dates back to the early '70s. Anyone remember Bubba Bean. :o But it was one week. if our offense gets more consistent we are going to be very hard to beat.

We are 5-2 going in to the Bye and will have Robinson and hopefully 'Spoon back :)

Roddy is a BEAST and you better triple cover him on every play.

Oh Yeah anyone underestimate the "Jenkins Impact"

I still think the '98 team was a little better. The '80 team was better on offense, worse on D. Had we handled Philly I might feel differently. But we'll see in the coming weeks. If we come out of the bye and take down Tampa and Baltimore, this team is ready.

Another thought: I don't know who is Gartrell Johnson, but when he ran it for the first time in his career and got the first down, I thought he was going to go into convulsions.

I'm all about players being happy, but it was like watching an epileptic on angel dust.

The dude got some wheels. Don't hate, appreciate!

He is fast though. But even my wife commented on that, and his running style seemed, honestly, .....a little dainty.....dont flame me too bad. :D

Great write up Rev- I was never worried about this game- Even when the Bengals took the lead, I knew the falcons would come back.

This is not your daddy's falcons- this team has heart, talent , grit.

Ryan is a top ten QB in 40+ yard passes now- they've all been in the last 3 weeks. This bodes well for the rest of the season.

And , if Drob, DeCoud and Spoon are in there, Falcons never trail.

If Ryan has similar numbers against Tampa [290 yards, 3 TDs] he'd be on pace for 4000 yards and 30 TDs.

Second half of the year is going to be fun.

I'm just goofin' on the guy a little. As long as he keeps getting firstdowns for us, he can can do whatever he likes. Well... within reason; I don't want to see MC Hammer back on the sidelines.

Dude 's short lil legs were moving really fast, but wound up getting chased down,

just a little more speed and he would have scored.

But a 23 yard run is an Outstanding play no matter how you slice it or dice it.

Props to Rev on an Great Thread.

Lots to discuss.

Normally Bye Week tiks me off, but bye week could not have come at a better time.

Still pizzy about the Eagles game, and getting better, had to buy an in home electro shock therapy unit

and self administering several times daily.

Rev, when I saw that coverage, I immediately knew it was the wrong one. I believe it was a dime package with two blitzers. I screamed, "No VanGorder! WTF are you doing? Call it off! Call if off!"

So we bragging about beating a 2-4 Bengals team? We should be able to beat those teams and not have to come and boast.

We have Tampa and Baltimore coming up. Lets look good against them before we get too high again.

So discussing and reveling in a win against a team that came back to take a lead against us, with a TO, an OchoCinco and a Palmer is considered bragging or boasting?

This is the NFL, not college, where a team's win/loss record means jack. A 2-4 Bengals team is still considered a tough matchup regardless of their record.

It was, especially with your #1 CB out and 2 really good WR's.

Great write up Rev!

+1

Couple of moments where I was a bit pissed.

1. When Leon Hall made that great INT and Jenkins on competing for the football, c'mon Mike!!!Still, gotta give credit to Hall on the great play (Grimes-like pick)

2. Jordan Shippley monster gain...a complete defensive breakdown. The call was totally unnecessary.

That's it.

Great game by our offense. Defense was in "vanilla mode" and it could've cost us the game but like you said, I was never in doubt.

Don't bother trying to debate the negative people. They are just naturally negative. Wired that way from birth.

Who cares about the names on the roster. You play the games on the field not on paper, and on the field they are mediocre. When we come in and beat a solid, good team i will be the first to brag. Like i said, lets see how we do against Baltimore and Tampa.

And for the record, Carson Palmer has been overrated for a looooooong time.
