since68andcounting
Oh wait...no Spoon, no Dunta...it pretty much IS last year's defense. Right now we're just a little banged up. But I like what I'm seeing out of Vance Walker. And Chris Owens is getting some very valuable experience. If we can get these Spoon and Dunta back after the bye we'll start shutting folks down again. schwarzenegger321
The secondary is a lot better. Half our guys were out today. The pass rush is another concern. We have got to get an DE that can create at least above average pressure. Bierman is not getting it done and abe looks like he is taking about half his plays off. since68andcounting
I think Abe is banged up though he won't admit it. He and Babs were double-teamed on almost every play, but they still gave it their all I thought. Biermann needs more consistency. If he's single covered, he needs to GET THERE.Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing Sidbury occasionally on some obvious passing downs. We've been rotating the tackles consistently, but I think I'd use a little deeper rotation with the DE's as well. The other thing is when we brought the LBs it was usually effective. I Even Bleed Red
Our secondary give up way too many big plays. We did it today and last week. Yes, our secondary is a little banged up, but part of the reason is because we don't put consistent pressure on the opposing QB. They have a lotta time to shred our banged up secondary, which, I'm not sure, will be whole a lot better even with the players returning. It's not a good thing in the long run and it's certainly not championship football.

It seemed like he was a regular rotation guy last year.

It's not a good thing in the long run and it's certainly not championship football.I think with our cover guys back, it will force the QB to hold it just a little bit longer and bring about more sacks. It's not like we aren't getting any pressure. Often we are a step or two from being there and the QB gets it off.Look, the league rules are totally stacked in favor of the passing game. It's hard for ANY team to stop a good passing attack, unless you have just a sick pass rush, like someone (or two or three) that just can't be blocked. I thought we were doing a very good job until Spoon went down. Then we were slightly worse until Dunta went down. Then the dam pretty much burst. But we got a win today, with a VERY leaky D. And we have a bye this week. Couldn't be better timing, imo.
delaigle
With Nicholas in for WeatherspoonWilliams/Owens in for Robinson and the Safetys of Moore/Coleman instead of Coleman/DeCoudIt was last years LBs & secondarythe line did have 2 different DTs at times in Jerry/Peters in the rotation
AU_caveman
They were obviously playing a bend dont break defense. Our corners were as much as 10 yards off T.o. and Ochocinco. That is way too much space imo. I guess this would have to have been a BVG or Mike smith call. But they did ok even without some of the play makers not out there. Dr. Billings
The 3rd quarter defense was a prevent defense. I don't know who made the call Smith, or BVG but it was clear they were playing to allow time to run off the clock. It worked to perfection. We Won, end of story... Owens has a bad game, and decoud is having a nightmare season, but whats with the big cushion we give recivers??? I never understood it. Dharma Initiative
The playcalling in the second half was about as vanilla as I've seen. We just kept running man to man coverage with no blitzes the entire half and they ate us alive for it
