Falcon Pass Defense

Bring It

Recommended Posts

At some point during this season, probably when the Falcons SHATTER the NFL record for most passing yards EVER allowed, TD and Smitty will be forced to admit they have a pathetic, toohless, anemic pass defense. Perhaps when Junior Jimmy Clausen of the Panties passes for 400 yards the truth will no longer be ignored.

It's beyond embarrassing to the rest of the team and franchise.

Not only is it pathetic today..............it gets worse weekly.

Smitty...............where's your defensive pride ???

You know our #1 CB and starting FS were out most of the day and we were facing TO and Ocho ?

u mean the same FS that gave up a 8 0 yard TD last week? who was also responsible with the rest of that group???? dnt even try to make it like decoud was the reason for that... robinson is one thing cause we havent been abused like that with him in t here yet, but im not even going to let u go that far with decoud...... this season everyone wantedto kno if he could go to pro bowl level, well the one thing he had to work on was his coverage skills....

He's still better than Coleman who's still recovering from TOs stiff arm. Chill your harsh man, we won.

TO and Ocho are still good WRs, even if Palmer isn't the QB he was a few years ago. They've carved up a few Ds this year. It's not like they came out of no where.

The Broncos have given up 52 so far to the friggin' Raiders and Baltimore as good as their D is allowed 34 to the winless Bills. We need improvement, yes but even good defenses have bad games.

not two weeks in a row... and theres a difference between good defenses, and great defenses, baltimore isnt great anymore.... steelers?? thats the epitomy of a great defense.... -_-

i'm not worried. we got a big lead, started playing conservative on D, not letting anything go over the top. i'm not a big fan of playing that conservative and that soft but it was part of the gameplan to defend the lead and kill out the clock. chris owens isn't very good and hasn't ever been, i don't know why he got so hyped up from last season. a healthy robinson is a massive improvement. he just got to stop looking in the backfield so much.

Dont get me wrong, I'm happy with the "W" too, but you and I both know that game should've been over way before the fourth quarter rolled around. Instead, we were fighting for a last minute onside kick which, had it gone the other way, may have changed the outcome of the game. Our secondary give up way too many big plays. We did it today and last week. Yes, our secondary is a little banged up, but part of the reason our D is so big play prone is because we don't put consistent pressure on the opposing QB. They have a lotta time to shred our banged up secondary, which, I'm not sure, will be whole a lot better even with the players returning. It's not a good thing in the long run and it's certainly not championship football.

And if that championship comes to us please get off the bandwagon and go to the saints

Hey we might be able to get Marvin Lewis as DC once Cincinnati fires him at the end of the season. He was the DC for the Ravens the year they won the SB. I am so sick of that zone defense. I guess it's the only thing we can really run with Owens and his lack of coverage (man) skills.

The Falcons defense does give up too many passing yards and the DB's certainly have to take their share of responsibility for it. On the other hand, the D-line often gets no pressure at all on the QB and I'm not sure if the loose zone defense by BVG even on third-and-long hasn't helped either.

One of the major disadvantages the Falcons DB's face every week is the obvious size mis-match, with so many premier wide receivers being 6'-3" or taller and our DB's being about 5'-8" in most cases. When you also have wide receivers who are fast as well as tall, they're going to pull in a lot of receptions against our group.

Maybe the whole pass defense scheme needs to be over-hauled, maybe we just need to draft some taller, quicker DB's to stop the bleeding next year.

When it comes to CB's, we lead the league with MIDGETS. LOL

When your #1 corner, coverage specialist/playmaker OLB, and starting FS are all out for the game then it isn't entirely surprising that the secondary collapsed the way it did. Be happy the bye week is when it is so those guys can rest and heal up for the push.

Play calling needs to improve a bit. Last week VanGorder called zone far too much and this week he called man too much. He needs to find the happy balance... or Smith needs to take over defensive play calling. Either way.

Why can't someone voice a concern, an area of improvement, a glaring need, or something similar about our team's weaknesses - - win or lose? I never understand this, "Oh, well, we won. It's a win! Be happy for that." That ish is so lame and tired. I am glad the coaching staff does not think like that. If they did, we'd be in deep ish.

They were essentially fielding the 2009 defense today, and that defense was terrible. Without Robinson there the defense couldn't help out Grimes on the other side (and Owens), without Weatherspoon screens couldn't get blown up as well as they should have and the tight end was able to get open up the middle more easily, and Coleman is a decent safety but there's a reason why Moore took his job.

A healthy defense is a vastly improved defense. However, play calling on defense needs to improve. No real adaptation to the conditions on the field, calling blitzes in inappropriate situations (eg. that long TD they gave up), and too much of a focus on zone or man depending on the week. VanGorder needs to up his play calling or Smith needs to take that duty over.

Falcons pass D - Robinson - Weatherspoon - DeCoud = bad pass d

Falcons pass D + Robinson + Weatherspoon + DeCoud = problem fixed

The bye week couldn't come soon enough! Let's get all our guys healthy and I really think we can be dominant. If our offense can start this fast consistently, and our defense is healthy, we can beat anybody!
