The TRUTH and what we need

If the Falcons don't fix the O-Line they are going to ruin Matt Ryan. I guarantee if you switched Manning and Ryan for one season Manning numbers would plummet while his sacks skyrocketed and Ryan would go to the pro-bowl.

1) Our O-Line sucks in pass protection and negates all of our talent in the skilled positions.

2) What Ryan could do if he could stand tall in the pocket and make a couple of reads. Now it's almost a pre-snap decision due to our pass protection which by the way takes away the deep ball. It's a domino effect and I'm convinced Mularkey's play calling is based mostly due to a below average O-line.

I wish we would have spent Robinson's money on a top tier O-lineman because this is the source of our offensive problems. Building through the draft is fine but every one just gets older and it's sad that we couldn't have a great O-line to go with all of our current weapons.

Switching to our D, I thought we over paid for Robinson so we could Blitz more. So Kolb drops back to pass in his own end zone (if i remember correctly) and I see Abe drop back in pass coverage REALLY ? BVG REALLY ? I literally spewed my beer and my wife asked what's wrong ?

Watching the opposing QB's is just sickening Fox did a close up on one Kolb's many passing plays and I watched him read his progressions not once, not twice, but three times.

Until we have a stable O-line that can pass protect and can utilize our weapons continue to see the dink and dunk pass plays.

Until BVG starts blitzing expect the CB"s to play off the receiver in almost a prevent like D and we get carved up underneath. Then when we do go man to man or a cover 2 again no pass rush then BOOM 80 yrds TD.

How can we expect to go anywhere in the playoffs when one coordinator is limited by his line and the other coordinator won't use his line.

We need players on our O-line and a new defensive coordinator for our D-line, end of story.

Well I am not so sure OL is the main issue. Indeed yesterday they got owned by Philly DL. But in general they are not below average. But I agree with playcalling of BVG, specifically when Abe dropped back. WTH??? That was just plain unbelievable! We were playing and hoping that philly will not throw another 80 yard bomb. Sickening. We needed to go all out blitz. If we got beat, we got beat. **** we get beaten all day long. that was our prime time get a sack in end zone and possibly a fumble. But noooo..... we like to play prevent defense even when opposing QB is in the end zone.

I agree after watching that play and seeing no exotic blitz packages and pressure I'm calling for Vangorder's job. The other thing that is puzzling with Coach Smith's background you would think he would be all over Vangorder. If he is he needs to step in and change it.

first off i get wat ur saying, but our o-line wasnt as bad as usual, they gave him time in the pocket, he got sacked twice, but he had time, some of his thorws was just off.... i been saying this in different threads, it seems lik on defense we were playing not to get beat, in stead of playing to win, and we still got beat, and beat often....

the gameplan on both sides of the ball just seemed off, and abe said they ran somethings that they never saw, but even with that said.... theres no excuse for some of thoes plays, it all goes back to reading your keys and paying attention to detail... as a DE its your job to hold contain, PERIOD... i understand that u want to make a play, but contain first then go get the QB.... the LBs just seemed really on there heels ALL day long... and i kno lofton isnt a great cover guy, but he has to improve on this.... and its official, nicholas and pete cant cover anymore either, and wat makes this so bad is that its not the TEs who carved us up.... its there WR running right in front or right behind our LBs and they couldnt do nothing about it..... the CBs had a ok day, dunta and grimes didnt really give up much since for some reason we was playing sooo much zone.... the Safties didnt have a good game either, both gave up a TD in the game, and willi MO needs to learn how to not get aught up in the emotion of the game, yea it was a cheap shot but the ref is ALWAYS going to get the person who reacts last....

but the worst group of the day is the ST.... they made life hard on everyone all day long..... just a total team dissaster....

I disagree... we've got problems with the o-line.... staring with the LT.

When was the last time we scored on the opening drive?

Starring with the 49ers game I've noticed Ryan's been getting hit alot and now he's starting to get happy feet because he's anticipating the hit.

If Ryan continues to getting smacked around we might end up with the next David Carr.

wow ur taking it too far, david carr didnt even have one good year.... and he got sacked like 60 times in a season, ryan isnt even remotely close to that in THREE years... we need to upgrade the LT,LG, def, and maybe RT,RG, depending on how it all works out, but something needs to be done tho i kno that for sure

I don't know... I think Matt's timing was off because he was getting hit so often. They might not have been getting a lot of sacks, but I felt like they were hitting him almost every time he dropped back.

I'll agree that the gameplan on both sides was pretty sad. It's also frustrating that our coaching staff never seems to make decent halftime adjustments.

I do agree with Xfactor, though -- we've GOT to do something about our offensive line if we're going to be a dominant team. They're just too inconsistent in both the pass and run game.

I agree 100% let's hope we make a couple of much needed trades and address this in next years draft to fix this quickly.

I agree it was an extreme example but you get my point.

If Ryan keeps getting pounded and begins to expect and anticipate the hit... he's going to regress and stop looking down field and start looking for the checkdown.

yea but he's standing tall in the pocket far more then last year, i remember last year if his first read wasnt there he is running out the pocket to look for a check down....now he is standing tall and taking thoes hits cause he is trying to make a play... i applaud him for that...

but if field position was better this game wouldnt have got out of hand lik it did.... starting three straight possesions inside your 50 yard line is a recipe for dissaster.... thats why im not even that mad at the defense, but they need to pay attention to detail tho....

If you want BVG to blitz alot, forget it. He has always, and always will, ran a soft-corner zone scheme. He sprinkles in a zone blitz, but very, very rarely will you see a true cover-1, all out blitz. He is very much like Mike Zimmer (you remember him don't ya). BVG is a decent DC, but the better OCs and O minded HCs in the NFL will continue to out coach him.

The OL does need inprovement, but as I said in another post. How good can your OL be when the D knows what is coming? I think MM is OK but terribly predictable. Now the ? is....Is MM predictable because the OL is bad or does the OL look bad because MM is predictable?

I think Mularkey knows the limitations of our O-line and adjusts his play calling. You can't tell me if our O-line was fantastic at pass protection we wouldn't take more shots down field.

This has been my thinking.

Also, I think there are options for down field throws on a lot of plays, but Ryan has no time so he looks to his "hot read" or his shorter routes to escape.

A trade is needed for a new LT. Baker will likely be better suited to be a guard so they can push him over a spot. The Panthers are a sinking ship so they may be willing to trade Otah who will be an improvement over the current situation. However, I doubt a trade will happen during the season.

Mularkey is also exceptionally predictable. His belief of formation maximization for the run and pass tip opposing defenses off for exactly what he's going to call. There is no imagination in the play calling and the times they move the ball most effectively is when Ryan goes no huddle. I've said it time and time again, Mularkey has a habit of becoming more predictable the longer he is with a team and we are seeing it this year. However, I doubt anything will be done about this.

VanGorder was too stubborn and didn't change his strategy when his game plan was clearly not working. However, I'm willing to give him another chance. Yesterday his two key new pieces either could not play or left the game and so he was essentially left with the lackluster defense he had last year... If he shows he's able to adapt to these new conditions then he's alright, if not then he's on the hot seat.

Don't expect much to change. Either everyone on the team needs a fire lit under them or they'll continue to underachieve. They should not be scraping by teams like the Browns and 49ers and they shouldn't get curb stomped by the likes of the Eagles.

And the topic is on the money.....

I am not wondering, if both units have sucess in training or training camp, if Mularkey goes against van Gorder....

That is not a high level matchup.....You can imagine, how it goes....Every 20 throws there is a deep throw and van Gorder will say:" Yes we can hold them to short yardage plays..." Then there is a breakdown and Mularkey will say:" Yes we have a explosive offense.......

My Advice every wednesday the offense is flying to pittsburgh.......then Mularkey has to say...."A lot of work to do" and the defense is flying to Indianoplis....
