vel
Our defense was not the problem. They kept us in the game as best they could. Yea Abe bit hard on the reverse but where were the other 4-5 players that should have been on his side? One blown play. But they were starting every drive at the 50 because the offense kept going 3 & out and Koenen wasn't helping the cause. Yea the bomb to Jackson was tough but they were in a bad defense initially. Cover 2 and you allow Jackson to run off the LOS untouched is a recipe for disaster. The middle of the field is the weakness of cover 2 and he ran straight to it. Easy 6. But as usual we made it hard to run the ball unless they tricked us. They hadn’t run any trick plays to this point and they ran one that resulted in a big touchdown. So on the deep play to Maclin, they were focused on not letting that reverse beat them again instead of playing the defense that was called, and they bit hard and paid for it. They got the offense a three and out to start the second half, but the offense repaid them by gaining 5-6 yards and gave them another 3 & out. It is hard to play defense from behind when your offense isn’t sustaining any drives. It takes an interception for us to get points on the board. Once Robinson went out, if you couldn’t see his impact on the defense then, you just weren’t watching the game. Owens showed why he wasn’t ready to take the job from Grimes. So I can't really fault BVG and the defense. We knew they were capable of scoring points (they are professional athletes as well) but for the offense to lay down is inexcusable. But I can't really blame MM either. Our OLine is good at run blocking but average at best at pass blocking. They can block when it is 7-8 men in the box but nobody can block against a run blitz all game if you only run from 2-3 TE sets. But they aren't capable of holding a pocket for more than 1.5 seconds so MM is restricted to throwing curls, comebacks, outs, and digs. We run the ball to set up the play action to give us time to throw deep. But even then our OLine struggles to maintain a pocket or White is the only one going deep (already being double teamed). Jenkins showed he is a real threat in our offense by missing the century mark by literally one yard. Douglas and Tony G were open a number of times in the middle of the field but when pressure is collapsing the pocket, it is tough to scan the field. So, although we were one step too slow on defense, we are totally restricted on offense not because of MM, but because of the line he has to work with. Truly think about the teams we have faced this year. The only team we have a better line than is the Cardinals. After this season, I see Dahl and Clabo both gone, Johnson steps in on the right side with Baker moved over to RT as well. McClure should stay, as he is the only good all around OL we have yet he is old. I would take a flier on Matt Light from NE and go for explosiveness on offense in the first three rounds of the draft. Our defense is fine. But our offense needs a better offensive line, and some more explosive players that will make you pay for trying to blitz Ryan. Roddy and Douglas are the only true explosive players we have on offense. Jenkins can be but he is more in the mold of possession like Tony G. But this is just year 3 people. Keep things in perspective. You couldn’t possibly think we would go 15-1 and I hope you don’t see us going 14-2 now. We lost one game in the first quarter of the season. We have lost our second game in the second quarter of the season. If we beat the Bengals, we are on pace for 12-4. We are still tied for 1st in the NFCS. Who didn’t predict us going either 6-1 or 5-2 by the bye week? Too much kool aid was drunk as well as too many power rankings were read. Every team is going to lose. Every team is allotted a bad game. Get over it. Hopefully this woke up the team and got this out of their system. I’m glad it happened early in the season than when we are in the playoffs.Through the highs and lows, we are Falcons fans. Act like.

HASHBROWN3
I blame poor play on the both the O and the D. Gameplanning was horrid and we never adjusted in the first half.

It was a beat down!! And combined with the offenses struggles all year, especially vs. SF and CLE, this does not bode well for the rest of the season. Mark my words! The offensive line is sub par, and like you said, they need a better offensive line.Look, no one was expecting a 15-1 or 14-2 season. What we all expect is a competitive, well-coached, well prepared, team that gives it's all, win or lose. That is not what I have seen this year, and that's why people are freaking out. It's about more than one "loss".
Dharma Initiative
It's true that we got tricked on 2 plays badly that resulted in 14 points. And we lost by 14 points.
