Last year, a concussion caused Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson to miss one game. This year, a concussion could put him out even longer.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Jackson suffered a "severe concussion" after being his hard by Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson on Sunday. Glazer also reports that Jackson has suffered memory loss.

His status moving forward isn't known. He won't be able to play until he's cleared by a team doctor and an independent neurological consultant.

UPDATE: Peter King reports that Jackson likely won't play again until November 7, when they face the Colts.

This is sad. Hope he recovers fully. He's a real good football player to watch (just not against the Falcons). I didn't think a major concussion would result from that hit that was to the shoulder area but maybe his head snapped from the sudden stop that he was not expecting.

yep...definitely hope he's ok...full recovery. what's got me po'ed is we know it was a clean hit and instead of the broadcasters statin' this they continue to put the hit in there with the helmet to helmet hits. they've seen the f'n replay too. they need to come clean with it on the broadcasts too

Yeah, Dungy on his high horse again. What else is new? Any chance he has to try and make himself relevant again, he's right there to preach the moral high ground.

haha, dude you are an idiot. I guess with a post count of 6 or what ever it is we should expect this.

I guess you are one of the types that gets off on trying to aggitate people because you really have no life.

for some reason my post count got wiped today...thanks for pointing that out. I really don't care what you think.

for a guy with a barney avatar, I wouldn't talk about someone not having a life.

To me it was the defenseless receiver rule which is a judgment call that's the kind of call the league says they don't want the refs making. But PI and roughing the passer fall into that category. All three of those fouls are called with different levels of urgency depending on who the foul is committed on. Officiating is garbage this year with bad calls all over the league every week

ok...you could be right. i wasn't thinkin' of it from that angle...still think it was clean tho. **** even Jamie Dukes agrees it was clean...all-time falcon hater...

I know that was the call but the defenseless recieve rule does not apply when the receiver has the ball. It applies when the D gets a pick and a player blindsides the reciever with a block, aka the Hines Ward rule. It also applies if the pass was incomplete prior to the hit. If you are running a slant and you reach out for the pass but can't catch it, the defender cannot hit you while you are completely exposed, defenseless. On the flip side, if you reach out and haul it in, the defender has every right to hit you with his shoulder in an attempt to jar the ball loose.

WR's go up for passes all the time and they are exposed. DB's are supposed to hit them as hard as they can to make sure the ball comes out. The rule is supposed to eliminate unnecessary injuries. If the ball is not caught or the WR is not facing the play, crushing them is pretty unnecessary. If they have the ball, you have to hit them. The rule is not supposed to keep defensive players from playing defense.

Really, what was he supposed to do? Slow down and wait for Jackson to tuck the ball before hitting him, letting the pass complete? Or slow down, so Jackson has a chance to make a move and break a play?

That's too bad. Totally clean hit, but I really hope he gets better. Don't want to see anyone get hurt.

+1 correct. Football is a Violent sport. And this a lifestyle that people choose to do. But I enjoy every bit of it. Pure entertainment. Understand this, I'm not trying to be harsh, I don't want to see people get hurt but, it's apart of the game.

When my friend and I saw that hit today, we honestly thought Desean Jackson was dead. It was so scary how his body just limped over after one of the hardest hit I've ever seen in football. I hope he is ok. Oh and I told you guys Desean was a WR beast.
