BADTOLZ
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/14365/falcons-cant-soar-over-nfcThe game may still annoy and he may annoy, but a lot of what he says is spot on. A lot of what the players are quoted as saying seem to indicate they know something's not right too. Even some of Smith's comments gave me some indication there's something not right.Nevertheless, I think it's a good read and worth taking some time too. He even says it's not a disaster and we'll see...so good for him.
sdogg
Maybe a little creativity on offense might be worth working on as well because the Falcons haven’t shown much of that even when they were winning. If Smith doesnt put MM on the hot seat, then Smith's seat will start to heat up. Smith cannot allow himself to be a victim of loyalty like Mora was to Knapp and Richt is to Bobo. kschreck
I can appreciate that they're upset about the big plays but I'm more upset about the fact that they didn't just move the ball on big plays. They moved the ball on all kinds of plays. It seemed like they had a first down on every drive. We had very few answers for what they were doing on offense. MilleniumFalcon
A lot of the offensive struggles can be seen for quite some time... 49ers game, last week in Cleveland but we didn't worry too much because we sneaked out wins. Now, it's the third straight week for the offense poor performance and it resulted in a Loss... things better pick up now.Defensively we were lucky to face below average QB's in Dixon, Derek Anderson, Alex Smith, Jake Delhomme. Those QB's were very inaccurate and it masked some of the bad things we were doing on defense... Lord Sarcomere
You know what pisses me off? When Matt says something along the lines of "We didn't do what we wanted to offensively" and that we want to"improve it next week"When are we actually going to see that improvement? Goodness gracious.

I cannot believe he's only worried about the big plays. Most of their small plays went for 5-10 yds a pop. Those are the plays that set up the big ones. cnasty
We got embarrassed today plain and simple. I can only hope it lights a fire under people's @ss. We apparently need some sort of motivation, somewhere. There's no way the FO isnt looking over Mularkey's contract for evaluation on the plane ride home. Chitown2ATL_Falcon
I was told thats called smash mouth football and thats how we win. Maybe this loss will open the eyes of many here. This is suppose to be a ball control offense using power run football to control the game. However, we did not control either line of scrimmage today and therefore we lost. If we had controlled one of these lines, either offense or defense we might have won. But we controlled neither. For the Falcons to win games, they have to control both lines of scrimmage, otherwise this is what happens. If we can't run the ball, then we lose. It's that plain and simple. We run the ball we win. We don't run the ball, we lose. Also someone noted we run a WCO offense. I repeat we do not run a WCO offense. A WCO offense is predicated on short passes in place of the run.I was told thats called smash mouth football and thats how we win. jm_falcons
Why do we have to rely on a loss to fix issues? Face it...our wins have generally not been very impressive. Thus...the Falcons need to develop more of a mind set that even when you win...there may still be problems to work on. The offense has had only 2 good games out of 6!The defense has had only 1 bad game out of 6!2 of our wins could have easily gone the other way.It all sums up to this.....Falcons have a good defense. (They were flat today though)Falcons have been fortunate. (NO and SF could have easily been losses)Falcons offense is not good. (MM....you are the main problem, sir.)This team must improve...because right now...they are not good enough. SoLuvinMyFalcons
Quote from Ryan in the article:“We didn’t do what we wanted offensively, whether it be run or pass on first or second down,’’ Ryan said. “I think the biggest thing going into next week is to try to improve that early on and trying to get into a better rhythm early on and that is something we’ll work on.’’ You know why you couldn't get into a rhythm Matty Ice? It because of this stat every single game: RUN, RUN, PASS ON 3RD AND LONG!!! RUN, RUN, PASS ON 3RD AND LONG!!! AND THEN THERES NO ADJUSTMENTS!!!That has been the only consistent thing about the offense all season long. slamee101
Yea, pretty good summary. Very telling quotes from Smitty.I just get a bad feeling in my gut after watching this one and hearing Abe say in the postgame that they did some things that we didn't prepare for. I had the same feeling after seeing us get stomped in Dallas. We all talk about Mularkey, but like someone said last week maybe (and I think this is true) Mularkey is calling the game like Smitty wants him to. If that's the case Smitty deserves a good amount of this heat too.Honestly though I just can't get past the fact that we were not prepared for the Eagles offense to make adjustments. That's just inexcusable.
msjacob25
some of smitty's quotes on there are telling me that we had some players out of position again. Either these guys are really really dumb, or van gorder doesn't know where his players are supposed to be.

This is due to MM terrible scheme, not Ryan's ability. Does anyone think that Iceman doesn't want to hit Roddy on a forty yard post pattern off play-action on first down?? Not with Bullarkey calling plays.I hate that guy.
