SaintRay
Yes it's true, don't look now, but the Saints widened their gap over their NFCS opponents in their defensive ranking today. Seems over the last few weeks that the New Orleans defense has begun to clamp down on opponents, both in passing and rushing defense. They are now a Top 15 defense and getting better by the week.Combine that with the offense beginning to find it's groove, the emergence of Chris Ivory at RB, the pending return of Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush, and it might just mean the mojo is returning. We're now 6th in yards allowed and 7th in points allowed. Where's WFW?
SaintRay
NOLA, I was being nice and keeping that lofty rating in my back pocket for after WFW spouted some crazy dribble out. You know, we're a Top 15 defense... Afterall, I've read over and over how we were a terribly ranked defense and how he knew Greg Williams would fail as a DC. Big Bubba
6th overall. Nice.12th overall are the Panthers.16th overall are the Falcons26th overall are the BucsI wouldn't have believed the Falcons would have dropped 6 spots in overall D.Panthers run D is still bad. Their pass D is top 4 though. As of right now, #1, #2 and #3 in the nfl in interceptions are the Falcons, Bucs, Panthers. Panthers have a chance to jump 5 or 6 spots in overall D against the 9ers. Then again, the 9ers have a chance to jump 10 spots against us. Saints are the most balanced right now, defense and offense. They keep at it, they have a chance to be top 5 in defense and top 5 in offense. Especially if the Panthers offense is still playing middle schoolish the next time we meet. SaintK
The d is getting there shot together. Should get better as they get healthier. Our o looked great today! Get healthy mid season then on fire at the end. It's coming together! Edited October 18, 2010 by SaintK

We haven't had a running game at all so far this season, while our defense couldn't stop Mary Poppins running between the tackles.

SaintRay
You know how hyped they get jb. The one running team they played so far put up over 2 bills on them! So, based on this comment, and your current NFL defensive rankings, seems to me everyone has been putting a few bills on the Falcons.Next up is a pass happy team against a very impressive Atlanta secondary. SaintRay
This whole matter needs closer examination. It was pointed out over and over by some in Rivals that the New Orleans defense survived on turnovers only last season while functioning as a #25 or worse defense. It was also stated, and you guys know who you are, that the Saints would collapse this year without the turnovers.Well, things aren't so clear-cut. The Saints have a solid Top 10 defense after 6 weeks and have very few takeaways compared to last year. The team also sports a 4-2 winning record that is tied for best in the NFC. The loss to Atlanta was due to a missed FG and the loss to the Cards was due to offense turnovers that led to the winning points. How can this be? falconsfan84
I'm kind of surprised that the Falcons are still tied for 4th in points allowed after allowing 31.

They are a top 10 D, but, without as many key takeaways, they are 4-2, opposed to the 6-0 they were last season? Takeaways are king when you have an explosive offense that can take full advantage of them. It's a big part of why they went to and won the sb last season. Of course I'd love to see more takeaways.By the way, its a couple of other famous posters who I am trying to engage... I know, just saying though. Who knows? More key turnovers may have let the Saints score more points so the games wouldn't have been close. Especially those lovely turnovers in the other teams red zone where Brees only has to make one short to medium throw for essentially a free TD. :P
