Could be the wakeup call we needed

Recommended Posts

Ok, so we got our butts handed to us in all phases of this game. From coaching to execution it was quite poor.

Yet this could be the slap in the face this team needed. Being exposed as we were can only result in some wholesale changes. I'm hoping this results in how this offense is prepared and how we build a game plan. Mularkey has to realize (finally) that the same plays week after week can't cut it in the NFL.

How many waggle plays can we ineffectively run before it's replaced with something effective? The OTHER MM (Marty Morningwhig) schooled us today on how to game plan and design plays.

In Mularkey's defense, the team and especially Ryan did not execute well at all today. Again, something that has to change after a beating like today's.

So unless we are pretenders, I believe that this game is what we needed to come back to earth and get back to strong smash mouthed football instead of fawning over power polls and press clippings.

I am optimistic about this teams future and NO ONE should be even close to throwing in the towel on this team. 4-2 with a strong dose of reality is a pretty good spot to be sitting in at this point.

Let us hope so.

I've been tempering my expectations all season. This was just one game, but definitely the 2nd worst performance I've seen under Smitty (the first being the Eagles game last year). Outcoached in all phases and lost to a team that was pretty beat up. It's gonna take a lot for me to believe we're the contenders that so many people claimed we were. After all that talk of how disrespected the team supposedly flet last year I sure couldn't tell cuz they let the Eagles come out and disrespect them again.

I'm hopeful that this is the wake up call that we needed, but I'm not going to get my hopes up that this hot start is any diifferent from last year, 06 or 05 after what I saw today.

I'm not ready to revisit any of those seasons yet. We need to at least get to the halfway point in the season before we go down that dark path.

Well we're pretty much at the halfway mark. We got handled today...the score is not indicative of how bad we got beaten. I'll never stop rooting my team on but it's gonna take a while b4 I believe we're a contender after today's performance.

we've had a wake-up call each week now. What more do we need?

Exactly.

For Abe to make the statement that they weren't ready kind of tells me that BVG is not where he needs to be as an NFL coordinator, b/c if you're not ready for a team to make adjustments when they have different personnel, etc. You're in trouble.

Like I said, I can't put into words how disappointed I am with the Eagles B squad beating us like a D-2 school today.

It has everything to do with coaching. Our gameplan is the same each week. I can tell you what the Falcons gameplan without studying any tape. Watch one game this year. And you've seen our gameplan for the other 15. Its not very creative.

This is the 1st time under Smith, that I question this teams pride and fire. You cannot allow the same team to come in and destroy you. Its like UGA vs UF. It becomes a mental thing and we allow ourselves to get beat before the ink dries on the schedule. I hate playing Philly....they always have our #.

That was definitely a shot at BVG. Now its time for Ryan/White to call out MM. If Smith is not going to get our DC/OC to step up, then our star players need to voice it so Blank will hear it.

I just hope I don't hear any excuses from the coaching staff...

Man up and say we were beat in every phase of the game and we have a lot of work to do and then come out next week and destroy the Bengals...

Exactly!! Smith needs to call out himself, his coaches and the players. All 3 were beat down today.

That goes for both sides of the ball!

i hope this is a wake up call. but i dont think it will change much, especially when it comes to MM. he refuses to improve as an OC

I'm fearful of this as well. I know folks hate all the negativity on the board after a loss, but my gut telss me we're going to see more failure to adjust to certain situations and be headed for a similar season to 2009.

You could be right.

I found the bland, predictable play calling under the Reeves and Mora regimes infuriating, and lived in hope that as we added different we'd open up and see a more open attacking offense, but each year saw the same after plays.

I'd asfarid to say that I think the same goes for MM. He is what he is and he does what he does, and I really can't see him changing.

Reeves was pretty conservative as well but I remember a season where we played the jets. They had come up with this new trips WR set bunched to one side. Well after playing them guess who had that new scheme installed two weeks later? The Atlanta Falcons.

So at least Reeves and his OC were open to new ideas and schemes....even if they had to steal them!

Our current OC seems to want to stick with the same plan when it works and when it doesnt.
